Why do the instructions say, "get your votes in before Monday night at 11:59 p.m. ET" yet it is Tuesday at 12:40 am and they are still accepting votes?

    Great place to raise kids!

Kent Taylor did an outstanding job succeeding my father-in-law, Joe Dancer, as McMinnville's City Manger. Both left a legacy that deserves this recognition. Every time we pass through McMinnville on the way to the Oregon coast, we take a detour through the center of McMinnville to drive down Main Street.

Georgetown is where I have lived and been raised since I was basically born. I have never known anywhere else as my home. I grew up in a beautiful house on Main Street, everything good and bad happend in that house... I found out I was going to have a sister, I lost my first tooth, my parents got divorced, I played endless games of hide and seek, my brother cut all my hair off, and so much more. I preform at the Georgetown palace theatre and I had my first job at all things kids on the square. George town feels like it is the perfect place to live, it has the friendliest people, the best shops, the most gorgous buildings, and everywhere you look you get a history lesson. Georgetown really has the best Main Street. VOTE G-town!

The photos of McMinnville and Georgetown are not "created equal..." sorry but uh, very much not fair to put a buttload of cars in the Mac shot and zero vehicles in the G'town photo. Not a single one! Looks like the photo pickers had a definite bias. They both look like wonderful places but I do think that G'town has an advantage based solely on the choice of photos.....(either do both WITH vehicles or WITHOUT...that would level the playing field significantly). Just sayin'.....

As a Georgetown native who was raised in this small town, I remember well the County Courthouse square as the center of all activity in the 1940's and 50's. Everything happened down town in beautiful limestone buildings facing a historic courthouse. When I returned to live again in Georgetown in early 2001, I was so pleased to see that the town had restored and enhanced all the beauty of those early establishments. By saving the buildings and bringing in all manner of new businesses with special events like First Friday and the Red Poppy Festival, new restaurants, wineries, antique stores, and art galleries now draw hundreds to our famous square and its main streets every day. Beautifully restored historic homes , Southwestern University's lovely campus, and the natural beauty of the hills and lake, the rivers and parks, and most of all, the friendliness of our residents -- all make Georgetown, Texas a wonderful place to live and visit. I am proud of the way Georgetown has placed its emphasis on maintaining a "small town"feel within its large town population. I am proud to be a native of this wonderful town!

Downtown McMinnville is such a charming area. My work office is in the beautiful historic district and I love being able to walk downtown during my lunch. Overall, McMinnville is a caring community that has a strong manufacturing base and is the home to the Spruce Goose inside the phenomenal Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum and Wings & Waves Waterpark. It's just a great downtown! Please vote for McMinnville.

One of the things that drew me to McMinnville 23yrs.ago was the charming 3rd St. I still love it here-this quaint downtown always makes me feel at home.

  • Karen - 10 years ago

I was born in Georgetown, raised in Austin, but then moved back here as quickly as I could. This little community has such a quaint home-town feel, but with all the amenities of a larger city. The courthouse and square around it are just perfect for meeting friends and family to enjoy dining, shopping, or any of the arts that go on throughout the year here. Georgetown's a great place to call home and its Main Street should be named the best in the U.S.!

The picture doesn't do justice to Georgetown downtown. It misses the huge pecan trees on the other side of the street that surround our lovely courthouse. A block from the picture is a new Art Center in a repurposed old firehouse with a splash pad for children on the corner right off Main Street. On hot summer Friday's people bring their lawn chairs and baby strollers and listen to live music under the huge pecan trees on the courthouse square. After 42 years, it is home in the best sense of the word, growing, yet maintaining it's small town feel and humanness!

McMinnville 3rd st complete with pizza joint/movie theatre and Serendipity's ice cream parlor with a good old player piano. The main drag of McMinnville also helps house the farmers market and Turkey Rama, the festival attributed to the world's largest Turkey barbeque. I love Mac (as the locals call it) and am proud of all the local businesses that have been around forever. Go Mac!

McMinnville, Or. is a GREAT place to live and work. Home of the Linfield Wildcats nationlly known Football and baseball teams! And it's only 40 miles to the beautiful Pacific Ocean. We have any and everything you want to do and see!

  • Kent Taylor - 10 years ago

I am blessed to have now served as McMInnville, Oregon's City Manager for 28 years. One of the top reasons I am still here is because of the sense of place and community reflected in our historic downtown. It is truly "the soul of McMinnville." Please come visit and feel it for yourself.

It has recently been reported that Georgetown is the seventh fastest growing city in the United States. The Georgetown Square is one factor that makes Georgetown an absolutely unique community. Come see it for yourself and you will have to agree that Georgetown has the "Best Main Street in America".

  • Keith Brainard - 10 years ago

There is a reason so many movies have been filmed in Georgetown: Main Street is beautiful. And charming.

  • David - 10 years ago

Main street McMinnville is a pedestrian paradise with small shops of all kinds, friendly folks that look you in the eye and say "Hi" and flowers in hanging baskets everywhere you look. I have lived in Texas and the folks there are wonder, no doubt. However, there is no better place to raise kids, go for a stroll or get a pizza than beautiful downtown McMinnville, Oregon.

  • Peggy - 10 years ago

I grew up in McMinnville and go back to visit as often as possible. It is an AMAZING Main Street! Many historic buildings that have been renovated into fantastic restaurants, galleries, interesting shops and coffee houses. Tree-lined, narrow street, pedestrian friendly...not to mention the rooftop bar on the top of McMenniman's Oregon Hotel. I will admit that Georgetown looks interesting but...my vote goes to Mac!

As the Director of our county history museum here in Georgetown, I can' t tell you how wonderful it is to share the stories of our town through student field trips, walking tours and ghost tours of our historic buildings and 1911 courthouse. There are tons of great events in Georgetown annually - we even have a cattle drive in the park to honor the cattle trail traditions of the past. From historic neighborhoods to outstanding parks, Georgetown truly has something to offer to everyone. Main Street is the jewel of our fair city - please come and visit with us!

Georgetown is an awesome place to live and grow up! It is car friendly and and people friendly :)
the main street and square are always having great family friendly events!
Although the town has grown it has never lost its small town charm, I am proud to call it home

  • Lindsay - 10 years ago

Go mac town. Great place to grow up. Very historical, and something for everyone. McMinnville is a huge "buy local" town, and everyone is very friendly. Gorgeous town in a gorgeous state.

  • Angela Gaston - 10 years ago

We close down Main Street and the square in Georgetown for artist shows and concerts. The square is VERY pedestrian-friendly. There is a little bit of everything to enjoy.

  • Vicki Jackimiec - 10 years ago

I might have some good insight in this race since I lived near McMinnville in Oregon for years. Met my husband there, had two kids and then moved to Georgetown Texas. McMinnville is nice but no where near as wonderful as the Georgetown Main Street. Think Mayberry with historic Southern charm. Although my husband's job was not in Georgetown, after seeing the Square for the first time our family said, "We're Home!". So hubby commuted for our family so we could be right here in beautiful Georgetown.

No the picture sure doesn't do the Square justice. Went down there this morning and saw little children with their mommas splashing in the new water feature near the Art Center. So cute! We have free movies on the square where a huge screen is displayed showing family-friendly free films. Bring your lawn chairs and homemade popcorn.

We celebrate all ages here. Streets are shutdown for parades featuring our local kids in sports/dance/music. Sun City senior dancers tap their way into our hearts. Floats, vintage cars, pets, you name it we've got it going down the streets during our parades.

I'd like to share more but speaking of Mayberry, I think I see little Opie running over to shop at All Things Kids, our state award-winning business on the Square. He's looking for Aunt Bea but she's having a handmade coffee over at Cianfranni's. And the Sheriff is stopping by Sweet Serendipity for some chocolates. After all, since our crime rate is incredibly low, he's got plenty of time on his hands!

Georgetown is incredibly pedestrian friendly! Main Street includes the court house square, which was designed with meeting neighbors at the town square in mind. Today it is still used for that purpose, and Georgetown natives know how to make tourists welcome. Wide streets and wide sidewalks boast shops and entertainment. You can even rent a bike from the Chamber of Commerce if you want to explore beyond the square.

  • John E - 10 years ago

I voted for McMinnville because of the trees and the narrower street. The shot of Georgetown just does not look pedestrian friendly, particularly in summer. Of course, I am able to base my views on MUCH TOO LIMITED information. One would have to spend some time in each season of the year, in each of the cities, to make an intelligent decision.

  • Molly Lunsford - 10 years ago

McMinnville is a small community with a big heart and it's all because the main street!

Awesome!!! The only way to describe Georgetown, TX in one word!

  • Georgetown became a Texas Main Street City in 1982, and we have been actively committed to keeping our historic town square vibrant for decades. We take pride in our ornate Victorian commercial architecture with several Mesker Bros. storefronts as well as our cool Art Deco Palace Theatre facade where sold out live performances are held. Our restored Williamson County courthouse sits in the middle of our square with great shopping, dining and special events surrounding it. Please come visit us to see for yourself! We are home to Southwestern University, the oldest university in Texas and two forks of the San Gabriel River merge just north of our downtown with miles of hike and bike trails just down our Main Street. We love visitors!!

  • Lana Mckay - 10 years ago

I feel so blessed to live in McMinnville, in the heart of Oregon's amazing wine country. Not only has our Main Street maintained it's "old time" charm, we have an incredible variety of shops, markets, restaurants, wine tasting rooms, and local businesses. It's a wonderful place to stroll for the afternoon - just what a Main Street is supposed to be! Wish the photo selected highlighted the area more than it does, for it is truly a jewel in the crown of the rolling hills of the green vista that is the Yamhill Valley! Vote for McMinnville - then come to visit! You'll be glad you did!!

  • Carolyn McCloskey - 10 years ago

What is with the big ad on our McMinnville picture? I can spend a whole day in our downtown, meet friends for breakfast or coffee at one of the restaurants or coffee houses, do some grocery shopping at the Harvest Fresh grocery, window shop or buy some items for the house or gifts, pick up my prescriptions and chat with the gals in the pharmacy, and sometimes go to swim exercise in the pool complex in the park at the end of the street, have lunch at one of the many choices.....or have an afternoon cup of tea at the tea bar....later meet a friend at my favorite wine bar....in the evening listen to live music in one of the coffee shops or wine bars...or fill my growler at the corner beer tasting place....then take in a show at our live community theater. We have old traditional places and new ones. We love it.

We moved to Georgetown from Austin a year and a half ago and couldn't be happier. We live just south of the Square in the historic district. This weekend, on Friday night, we biked to El Monumento and enjoyed dinner and margaritas. After dinner, we listened to the end of a Summer concert on the Square. Then we grabbed dessert and coffee at Galaxy Cupcake before heading home. We sat outside and listened to the live jazz music coming out of Gumbo's across the street. On Saturday, we rode our bike down Main St., where we picked up the hike and bike trail and rode along the San Gabriel River to Lake Georgetown. Along the 20 miles round trip we saw many deer, hawks, turtles, lizards and cardinals. In the evening, we went with friends to see the Buddy Holly Story at the Palace Theatre, a beautiful art deco style theatre from the 1920's. Afterwards, we headed over to 600 Degrees Pizza and Pub for appetizers and beverages. The owner very sweetly comped us a pizza because she saw how sad we were when we learned that the restaurant had stopped serving pizza for the night. We enjoyed the free pizza on Sunday. We love the fact that there is so much to do within walking/biking distance. Vote for Georgetown!
