Collierville is a wonderfule town square. I have had the privilege to live in cities with a classic town square from Nashville Indiana to Mesilla Newexico and Collierville is my favorite. It has history with the Civil War, very old buildings, trains, food, music, festivals and a quaint small town beauty.

  • Pamela - 10 years ago

Having lived in Collierville for 17 years, I have enjoyed it's beauty and family atmosphere. I have also seen it's very ugly side of corruption and backlistting. I have had the chance to visit Deland and find it so delightful. My bet is on Deland!!! Collierville reaps what it sows.

  • Buddy - 10 years ago

Collierville, TN. is a wonderful step-back in time. If they took up the pavement from the streets of the downtown square they could put in some horse poles to tie your horse and you could relive the 1800's

DeLand has everything you are looking for in a small Florida town which boasts outdoor cultural events on selected weekends including art, plant & even a motorcycle events & more. Old town feel with great southern hospitality.

  • Clark Kent - 10 years ago

DeLand is overrated. There is a reason people who live there call it DeadLand. Also, it is a city that forgot the Civil War has ended.

I have to agree this picture does Delands Main Street no justice. Deland is an amazing, charming, and unique family town. Always something going on and plenty for children and children at heart! We love to browse the shops. Grab a snowball and have a bite to eat at Tonys. Not to mention catching a show at the Athens Theater is a true delight. You also have the BEAUTIFUL campus of Stetson to stroll through. Deland is top notch in my book!!

The voting system doesn't seem like the fairest way to pick a true winner, when one town has twice as many inhabitants, thus increasing the amount of potential voters for that town.
A better way might be for Parade to have a committee of judges that visit the towns, with specific criteria for comparison, and then the judges make the determination.

Collierville is truly a first class town with a beautiful soul from is lovely shops to it summer concert under the stars. There is no better place to live.

  • Carol - 10 years ago

Deland is a unique small town that deserves to win! It has a renovated theatre called The Athens, which took years of hard work to restore. Almost every other week and sometimes more, you will see special events downtown put together from The Mainstreet coordinators! It has rural areas as well as a awesome downtown which is a special treat for everyone.

  • Savannah-Jane Griffin - 10 years ago

DeLand has something for everyone, from family owned businesses, boutiques, and antique stores to award winning restaurants. There is something happening downtown every weekend including the annual Veterans Day parade, the Bike rally, Taste of DeLand, the art festival, the craft festival, ice cream walks, the craft beer festival, I gaurunree you'll find something for you and your family. It is also home to the first private University in the state of Florida, Stetson University. This small town has won over my heart and has been my home for more than 11 years.

  • Rob Crumpton - 10 years ago

poor picture of DeLand. doesn't do it justice. there are music festivals, art walks, a great dining area. theater that does comedy, concerts, plays, downtown museum. small town with something going most weekends.

Collierville is the real deal. Certified Main street Collierville is a certified program as one of 28 main Street communities in the state of Tennessee by the National Main St Center. There are over 118 commercial buildings along with centerpiece of our community..the Town Square and bandstand located in Confederate Park. We have a rich history based on a railroad town and the Battle of Collierville during the Civil War.
Promotional events such as our community signature event 23 years of hosting Sunset on the Square Summer Concerts and Christmas in Collierville have been recognized by the Southeast Tourism Society as award winning programs. Our Pennies for Preservation project has been recognized in National publications as an opportunity to tie the local schools in with the non profit organization of Main Street Collierville that has been charged with the mission of preserving, promoting and protecting the Historic District of Downtown Colllierville. Residential rooftops give a great feeling of calling Collierville "home" as well as encouraging future residential and commercial development. We follow the National Main Street 4 point approach to revitalization and sustainability of Downtown District.

  • Marva - 10 years ago

The description of Collierville doesn't even begin to touch the surface of this quant little town! The entire town gathers every Thursday evening for Sunset on the Square where many local bands play as well as many well known bands. It's a nice and safe place to bring your family and spend quality time with our neighbors. I have lived here for 22 years and can't imagine living anywhere else!

  • Brenda - 10 years ago

The Town Square is the heart of Collierville, Tennessee. Families gather there to worship and wed, dine and shop, gas their cars and photograph their children, listen to music and tour the train, have a little coffee or a scoop of ice cream, dance in the gazebo and picnic under the trees, browse the festivals or ride in the parades ...the list goes on and on. Families love Collierville and its Main Street is the heart of that love!

  • Kevin Winchell - 10 years ago

Why DeLand? Great University. Excellent dining and merchants. Lots of great art. Best places in central Florida for ice cream, beer and wine, trivia, coffee, and live music. Everything's in walking distance. And, the icing on the cake? We have a dog parade.

    DeLand or bust!

  • Anne - 10 years ago

I have lived in Collierville for 14 years; it is the best example of small town living. The town is incredibly supportive of the schools and other programs. There is always something happening at the square. Come for blue grass pickers on Friday evenings. Even if nothing official is going on, there are always people at the square, dining, shopping, enjoying the beauty. It is definitely the town to vote for.

  • Sarah - 10 years ago

The description of Collierville's town square does not do it justice. This is a place that the community gathers on a weekly basis and of course EVERY holiday. They have everything from concerts to 4th of July bike decorating to locals selling bags of Okra on the benches and blue grass pickin' on Fridays. It is meticulously kept with lush baskets of flowers of every old fashioned light post in the spring and straw bails with pumpkins and Mums in the fall. It is a place that holds a tremendous amount of history from the Civil War to the families that frequently gather to take photos from 1 year olds to seniors. The stagecoach resides there and the trains are open for visitors as well. You could spend an entire day in this quaint little town. WE LOVE IT!

  • Betty Stern - 10 years ago

DeLand is a great place to visit--walk down the streets, check out the stores, visit the quaint restaurants. Stetson University, at the north end of the main street is an added bonus with its massive oak trees. Who could ask for anything better!

  • Sara Gillette - 10 years ago

Hmm. Love the smell of bots in the afternoon. :/

Seriously, Parade, I hope someone is paying attention here. Blatant shenanigans are blatant.

  • Rose Marie Russell - 10 years ago

Deland is much more than Main Street. I love driving through the countryside in spring when the rain trees and azaleas are in bloom and the phlox and wildflowers line the highways. What a wonderful place to spend some time.

  • Paula - 10 years ago

Deland is a great little town. And Stetson University, which is very close by, is a great school!

  • Nash - 10 years ago

HANDMADE DONUTS at Mr. Bill's Donuts! Probably the best on earth, a park to play chess and outdoor art on display ! You can't go wrong with Deland,FL !!

  • Steve - 10 years ago

Collierville town square is an absolutely beautiful place. There are events held there year-round, and many take engagement and wedding pictures there by the train tracks. There is an old train that permanently resides there. During Christmas, all of the trees and bushes are covered with lights. I enjoy the fair and concerts most.

  • Caroline - 10 years ago

Collierville all the way! So happy for Deland that you have won so many awards. Time fore another worthy town to get some well deserved recognition. I have lived all over this country and abroad, no where has the quaint, welcoming feeling that Collierville does. This is a town trying to change the narrative despite its attachment to a troubled home city and the residents, the town, and the home city deserve some positive recognition!

  • Margaret Jones - 10 years ago

Vote DeLand! Don't vote on one picture. DeLand has deservedly won numerous Mainstreet awards. This picture doesn't begin to depict the beautiful, historic DeLand. www.deland.org
Then there is the gorgeous Stetson University campus, right on the "main street," Woodland Boulevard, and next to downtown--priceless. I wisely moved back here the decade after graduation. www.stetson.edu

  • Tabie Lee - 10 years ago

DeLand has everything a small town could offer! From a downtown of a variety of shops, restaurants and venues, DeLand has it all. Our "gem" is the Athens Theatre where it was just used in filming of "Walt Before Disney". On any given Fri and Sat night downtown is buzzing with music, arts, craft beer, food and fun. Deland is rich in history and Florida history, at that!! Vote DELAND!!!

    DeLand all the way!!!

  • JJ Speights - 10 years ago

DeLand has an exciting and vibrant downtown with many beautiful historic buildings which now feature world class taverns, wine bars, antique and boutique shops, and five star restaurants. You can also find subs, ice cream, frozen yogurt, and a great specialty candy store. Downtown DeLand hosts a variety of monthly and weekly events for children and families and has a weekly farmer’s market, two annual amazing Music Festivals and Art Walk Fridays. We also have Classic Car Shows weekly. Needless to say, but I will, I love DeLand, always something exciting and new. Can’t forget historic Athens Theater and quaint parks. Beautiful, historic, friendly, exciting, proud to call my home. DeLand Florida.

  • Karen Donner - 10 years ago

DeLand is just brimming with everything that makes a small town great - arts, food, shopping but most of all the fantastic PEOPLE who make it such a warm and enchanting place to visit and live. GO DELAND!

  • shelley potter - 10 years ago

Moving from Minnesota, I was concerned there would be a lack of charm and only palm trees and strip malls. I was thrilled to find DeLand. This beautiful little town is charming and has something for everyone. I heartily support DeLand, Fl.!

  • Kathleen Lopez - 10 years ago

Voted for delightful DeLand. We are a beautiful town. There is a lot for children to do with baseball for boys and girls. Soccer.', football. We have fantastic sites to see along our tree lined Main Street! See our university , Stetson! It is beautiful! In December we have a beautiful Christmas parade and we can't forget the boat parade on the St Johns river. Our school systems is top notch! Vote for DeLand!!!! Please.!!!!!!!!!!!??

  • Dianne Krulick - 10 years ago

We visited DeLand a few times with family from the Orlando area. Always thought it was a very special place.

So many wonderful shops, restaurants, events, and especially people attracted us to this very special city that has the "small town" feel. The history of the community is always present as one can view murals representing the past and the many buildings that have signs explaining their significance to the community.

We CHOSE to purchase our "winter" HOME there. Always looking forward to living there for many continuous months at a time. So much to do and see.

Definitely believe that DeLand is the BEST Mainstreet in America!

  • Ashley - 10 years ago

DELAND ALL THE WAY!!! As a local to Deland, I have traveled to many other small tons but have found very few that rival my own. The community is friendly and close, and the events are bountiful, unique and fun. There is always something to do downtown, from the amazing restaurants (Cress, Dally, Santorini, Belinis to name a few) to the varied bar scene (literally something for every socializer), to the amazing street events (art festival, chili cook off, monsters on mainstreet, 4th Fridays, Tropical Nights, craft beer festival, ice cream walk, taste of deland, car shows, music festival) to the best parades (Christmas parade, dog parade, veterans day parade, Deland High Homecoming parade) Downtown Deland sits in the heart of the town, and faithfully closes down to support these amazing events. Everyone should visit and experience Deland's charm :)

DeLand, DeLand, DeLand, your are my heart's home!!! No Walmart for me - just Lace and Accessories, iPublix,Cress, the Muse bookstore, the Museum of Art and it's annex and wonderful gift shop. What's not to like since we moved here nearly 20 years ago! Come and see!

  • Patricia Lee - 10 years ago

Collierville TN is so darn cute! I visited there last year. The historic downtown is like a cross between Mayberry and River City (from the Music Man). Shops all around the square, even a gas station that you pull into the building to fuel up. The center is a park of huge trees, gazebo, log cabins, and a railroad museum with old train cars. Definitely worth a full day for a visit.

  • Cathy - 10 years ago

Collierville is an amazing place! Main Street and Collierville's Town Square have shops, beautiful scenery, places to eat and unwind. We moved to Collierville because of it's schools and the small Town charm. There truly is something for everybody. Relax and listen to great music with your friends during the summer. Enjoy fair on the square with friends and family in the spring. Watch classic Christmas movies and drink hot cocoa with the family in the winter. You can eat famous Dyers hamburgers or Gus's fried chicken or sit back and relax with a cup of coffee or enjoy a frozen yogurt. Take a step back in time, forget the hustle of a busy life and visit Collierville's Main Street where family and community still exist.

After visiting friends in DeLand since 1999 & falling in love w/ the area more each time, we decided to move here permanently 5 yrs. ago. We were fortunate to get involved w/ several of the wonderful organizations who have made historic downtown DeLand an active, bustling destination for businesses & tourists alike. MainStreet DeLand Association, in particular, has worked hard over the last 27+ yrs. to revive a once almost dead downtown into one of the most successful old time Main Streets in America. Community events & a variety of great places to dine & browse the many interesting shops for that special gift keeps downtown the place to be. The fully restored historic Athens Theatre, once home to some of Vaudeville's greats like Al Jolson, has been offering a variety of quality shows & entertainment since reopening in 2009. Come visit DeLand. I guarantee you'll fall in love, too.

  • Andy Ferrari - 10 years ago

I live, work and play in DeLand. I also serve as a Local Elected Official here, and can't think of a better place than here to be. We have everything from great schools, to parks, to events...something for everyone in DeLand, FL

  • Shelby - 10 years ago

I have lived in Collierville most of my life it is a great town and our main street is a beautiful and great place to hang out! I also had my senior pictures taken there and they look amazing!

  • Martha Vogel - 10 years ago

Our son and his family moved to Deland 2 years ago and immediately fell in love with the small-town charm. We really enjoy going down there to visit (getting away from the cold KS winter) and make sure to stroll down Main Street at least once or twice every time. We always take our grandkids to Berryville and the Candy Shop. We love that there are great restaurants, unique little shops, art exhibits and festivals. The beaches are just a short drive away and I really like that we can get fresh citrus to take home. :)

I have lived all over the country and moved to DeLand over 7 years ago; it was the charming downtown that sealed the deal in making my decision of where to relocate. I became a downtown merchant almost 2 years ago, and that is when I fell in love with this community, particularly the downtown. I feel very fortunate to meet people every day from all over the country and beyond who are discovering this amazing place I am proud to call home. Where is the best Mainstreet? It's definitely DeLand! Congratulations to all the cities that were nominated!

  • Rachel Sieg - 10 years ago

DeLightful DeLand is a close nit community. We have many festivals and events throughout the year which is attended by the majority of the residents and people throughout Volusia County. When I first visited DeLand 36 years ago, I said that this is where I want to raise my children. I am proud to be a member of the community.

  • Virginia - 10 years ago

A night on the town in DeLand rivals that of Broadway. Enjoy a gourmet dinner at Cress, Zagat's top rated restaurant in the Orlando area, then attend a professional quality play at the restored historic Athens Theater. Or you could attend one of the many music presentations at Stetson University's Elizabeth Hall chapel. And it's only ten minutes from my house on the edge of town. DeLand has come a long way since my student days, when we called it Deadland.
