This isn't cool, I have a screenshot at 11 and Siloam was in the lead. I feel like this was rigged to have a larger town win. I would like explanation on how we were ahead with almost the same score, yet we lost...

  • Marsha Emanuelson - 10 years ago

Siloam Springs was clearly ahead even after 11:00 CST, so how did it not win?
Please explain how the tally increased.
Siloam Springs is truly a wonderful town with the best Main Street! Check it out!

  • Siloam's Got It! - 10 years ago

Congrats to Siloam Springs! No matter how they score it- it's pretty darn impressive that a town of only 15k has had SO much support. And for all the haters/ doubters here's a great blog with lots of pics of our awesome downtown and all the work that's gone into it- http://www.arkrealestate.com/2013/11/kibitz-chat-3-0-new-blog-post-chatting-with-meredith-bergstrom-executive-director-of-main-street-siloam-springs/

It's really sad that people have been so critical of the incredible photograph. It's an art to be able to think up shots like that, that require a lot of talent (and a big lift sky), and photo editing skills. Any photographer knows it's not just about snapping the pic it but bringing out its full potential in the studio.

  • Resident of Siloam - 10 years ago

I live in Siloam and took a screen shot of my iPhone just after 11 here. We are central so it would have been 12 eastern time and Siloam had won. This doesn't appear to be a very fair poll if voting didn't actually close when it said it did.

  • Atonda - 10 years ago

I just saw this post on the voting wish I had seen it earlier I would have placed my vote. Of course for Siloam Springs, AR. That's where I live. It is a lovely little town.

  • No, Siloam won... - 10 years ago

To "Good Job Mac", I wish that were true, I really do, but I was watching the voting "extremely" closely and at 11:59 P.M. EST, Siloam had a clear lead. Even at midnight and until a few minutes past midnight, Siloam "still" had the lead. Voting ended at 11:59 P.M. EST and at the time, Siloam had won. You will know that's a fact, when Parade announces them as the winner, tomorrow morning. I love McMinnville and very much wanted the win, but that's not how it ended up. It was extremely close, but Siloam won.

  • Good job Mac - 10 years ago

Mac clearly won, since although SS put up a good run, the numbers clearly showed all the supporters put Mac in the lead at 11:59 before the close, even without the delayed additional votes totals that took the website a while to show that put Mac well over the majority. Don't know how much time delay there is from entering the votes to them showing up in the percentages, but it looks like Mac had a fair and square win. Nice photos of both towns, I can't wait to visit Siloam and the other cities that made the list. Nice communities!

  • Hey, Siloam won - Just say Congrats - 10 years ago

Crazy Dave and Crazy Mac, Maybe the photo of Siloam "was" Photo shopped, but before a woman leaves the house, doesn't she get all prettied up before she goes out in public? Doesn't a guy comb his hair and try to make himself look presentable? What's the difference? They wanted to win. Just like we did. Of course they wanted to present their town in the best possible light. They fought hard for the win, just like we did. They just fought a little harder than we did is all. That's why they won. So suck it up, and just say congrats, and wish them well in the finals.

  • Oregonian All The Way - 10 years ago

I wish it was 11:59 PT. I just now saw this, and I would have loved to vote on it. My husband & I just spent the weekend walking McM's Main Street and it was amazing!!

  • Siloam Won Fair and Square - 10 years ago

I LOVE McMinnville and I REALLY wanted Mac to win, but even though Siloam won this contest, in reality, we ALL win. Because we all live on Main Street America! To everyone in Mac, lets get behind Siloam in the final round of voting on Tuesday. I think they deserve our support.

  • amber - 10 years ago

Proud to be a McMinnvillian! 3rd st is a beautiful place. The whole street lights up during Christmas time, flowers blooming in the spring time and of course the alien parade. And the warm summer nights and sound and hot rods dragging the gut, and of course all the trees turning colors in the fall. Yup we definitely have the best main street!

  • Linda Hays - 10 years ago

I think we need some civil in our civic pride here folks. I'm embarrassed for all of us because of the comments of a few on each side. There is no need to spread stinky stuff all over either of our beautiful Main Streets. I watched the polls too, and I watched the numbers continue to rise after the polls closed, but I don't know anyone who was still voting then. The polls my take a while to catch up to the clicks, or there might have been something wrong and the shut off on the program didn't work as it should. Either way, both of our downtown associations operate on shoe string budgets, so I am sure no one paid off Parade to rig the contest. Let's just wait until the morning, and Kudo's to whoever won. We all know that the best Main Street in America is your hometown. Whichever town that is. No matter how dirty your dive bar is, (I'm very proud of ours, and I think it could give any dive bar in Arkansas a run for the diviest) or how many accolades and awards it has (or hasn't because it's just too down home for that nonsense) won.
I live in McMinnville, my mom and dad had a shoe repair shop here, I have a toy store here. It's not the buildings, the shops, the restaurants or anything that you can capture in a picture or news article, or even the wines that make it so wonderful. It's the people. Just like your town. No retouching or multiple clicking can change any of that. Did you catch the news in Isreal today? Aren't we all so incredibly blessed?

  • big mac - 10 years ago

11:59 E.T is 9:59 PST when it was at say 9:56 Mac was ahead,at 9:39 mac was ahead 9:30 Mac was ahead why are you whinning?

  • Jason Brumley - 10 years ago

It will be fun. I'm a winemaker in McMinville, which is named for McMinnville, TN and my new home will be going against a small suburb of Memphis,...where I was born and raised and lived 27-ish years of my life. The hand that life deals ya is an interesting one.

  • Way to go Mac - 10 years ago

I agree that it was an amazing catch-up Mac! When we checked at 11:58 McMinnville had pulled ahead to 50.18% which the over 400 responses to our email campaign confirms the last minute push helped get out the votes just in time! Way to go and show your support. Everyone who supported every town should be proud of their efforts - way to get the community support together and show your spirit!

  • It is what it is... - 10 years ago

Rules are rules, hoping Parade sticks to them- they clearly state it ends at 11:59pm ET! Sorry Mac, good run, but you lost to the underdog. Congrats SS!!

Here’s how it works: Voting for Round One occurred Saturday and Sunday, and the field was narrowed from sixteen towns to eight. Round Two occurred on Monday and the eight quarterfinalists were narrowed down to our final four semifinalists. Round Three is now open—get your votes in before Tuesday night at 11:59 p.m. ET! The final round will follow tomorrow, on Wednesday, July 2.

  • An Apology to Siloam - 10 years ago

I'd like to apologize to the good folks of Siloam, Arkansas for my earlier post about possible fraudulent voting. (Cheating isn't Winning) I want to state as well, however, that I never intended that comment towards the good people of Siloam or your wonderful little town. IF one individual chose to cheat, that's just "one" individual, not an entire town. In hindsight, though, my remarks were entirely out of line.

Siloam #winning, if your townspeople got behind Siloam to that extent, you no doubt deserved the win. Ya have to admit though... we gave you a run for your money, didn't we! :)

PS: Don't worry about the polls not closing down at exactly 11:59 P.M. Eastern time. Siloam Fan is correct. even though the voting "appears" to be continuing, it's really not. Parade will announce you as the winners tomorrow morning, as they will only count the votes that were placed by 11:59 P.M. Eastern time and you were definitely ahead at the polls cut off time.

You proved to be worthy opponents. What a nail biter! Congratulations, Siloam. Good luck in the finals.

  • Jason Brumley - 10 years ago

I love this event. It is true that McMinnville has the later time, but Siloam Springs had a two hour jump in the AM and they were leading because of it.

  • 40u40 - 10 years ago

Ark folks need to quit whining... You think you're the only ones voting? McM is surrounded by dozens of wineries, and we vote while we drink!

  • R Proud of Mac - 10 years ago

Thanks for the good contest everyone. Fortunately Mac has the time zone benefit of 3 hours later so more people voted when getting home from work and with all the phone calls and emails made to our great supporters in the community. Thanks for the community support for both towns - everyone should be proud.

  • Casey - 10 years ago

Just a reminder, we all rounded up all the votes we could because we love our towns. This is a very good sign of life for both McMinnville and for Siloam! And it's not a scientific poll...it's just a fun thing.

  • Luke - 10 years ago

Wow! Crazy close voting contest... right down to the wire. So cool that Siloam Springs won!

  • Lucas Roebuck - 10 years ago

I love Siloam and live here! It's awesome. I used to live just up the road from McMInville in Newberg for one year. McMinnville is an awesome place, too! Both towns should be proud to be in the "final four" ... I know I am proud of Siloam Springs. I hope we win when the dust settles, but if not, hats off to you McMinville.

  • Rigged - 10 years ago

...and still going down. It's 12:41 Eastern time. Just noting it. Stacy N, you're right. It is nice to see such pride. All of us who've been following this all day were holding our breaths at the end. Such a close margin! But truly, Siloam Springs was ahead, and they were for hours. And they were ahead for several minutes after deadline. But then the total started rolling backwards, with every click of the refresh button. Disappointing for those who voted for Siloam Springs. We'd have been thrilled for McMinnville if the final minutes hadn't seemed so questionable.

  • From Siloam - 10 years ago

I'm from Siloam, and I'd like to publicly disown whoever just posted the "hug a tree for me..." comment. Shameful.

  • Susan Alexander - 10 years ago

Hey Deedee Lewis. Siloam is not a generic place nor is it a blah place. Why don't you bring your classless self to Arkansas and check it out. It is a small town but it is a very beautiful town with very wonderful and friendly people. And that is not a fake picture. We are in the Ozarks and it is very pretty here especially in the fall and the springtime. I hope they honor the voting deadline. If so Siloam won so get over it!

  • Hug a tree for me... Not! - 10 years ago

Yeah so your downtown is nice Mac, but you can only actually walk down the street for what two weeks out of the year when it's not freezing, snowing or raining? Plus on the occasional warm day you'd have to walk through a cloud of funny smelling smoke from all the dopers and couldn't appreciate the beauty for all the freaks. I wouldn't dare take my family there. Your seriously proud that you host the second largest alien freak show fest? Is Oregon even still an official US state? Does anyone there even have any regard for the constitution or the values this county was founded on?

  • True Oregonian - 10 years ago

It's a click to vote....and everyone shares it all over the internet....and all over my FB I saw friends and family posting last minute to remind everyone to get their last votes in on every device they have in their household....I would think that maybe numbers could be changing at the last minute. It's just a fun contest, sad that people start bad mouthing and feel that helps. Every town that was included in this "contest" is a winner just for making it into the voting! McMinnville will still be amazing even if we don't "WIN" the clicking contest :)

  • Renee - 10 years ago

Not sure how people are saying this is rigged. I have tried to vote twice and I got a message thanking me but saying my vote had already been recorded. You can only vote once.

  • me - 10 years ago

Wow! I do believe the oakies are a bunch of cry babies. I can even hear them stomping their feet and jumping up and down screaming "its not fair they are cheaters, we are the winners its not fair" lol nobody can vote more than once its not rigged in the morning the winner will be announced so settle down children wow!!!! Really!!!???

  • Stacy N - 10 years ago

After reading the comments on this page I must say the one thing that this contest is doing is showing how much pride and passion people have about their Main Streets! I've been stressed out all day seeing such close numbers. Yesterday was close and the day before. Always about 50/50. So good job Main Streets of America. You are fostering your own spirits.

  • Beer man - 10 years ago

It's not rigged. Would you rather shop at Walmart or Nike town? Enough said!

  • Rigged - 10 years ago

Agreed. We watched those numbers drain away from Siloam Springs for more than twelve minutes after the deadline. They're still dropping.

  • lairs - 10 years ago

this thing is rigged siloam was ahead at the time it was supposed to end but the voting is still going on and now we r down...whatever im not getting on this page again to vote for anything if yall r gonna cheat

  • Siloam Fan - 10 years ago

Mac folks - excellent contest! Siloam folks - the polls have not closed exactly at 11:59 EST any day thus far, but Parade has honored the winner. Let's give the folks at Parade a chance to announce the winner in the AM and keep to our classy roots!

And "cheating isn't winning" - I think you give us simple folks in siloam way too much credit! To think we're capable of programming IP anonymizers is a bit of an overreach!

  • Ryke - 10 years ago

This is rigged,we were ahead at midnight and now all of sudden we went down and are losing! CRAZY!!!

  • Chris - 10 years ago

Cheats! I refreshed my browser at 12:14 EST and suddenly Siloam Springs has dropped to 49.97 from 50.07? I do believe the polls were going to close a good 15 minutes ago. Parade magazine should be ashamed.

  • Siloam Panther - 10 years ago

Siloam was ahead at the cut off time...then it was 50/50, now Siloam is no longer ahead? How does the percentage/vote change after voting is closed?

  • Rigged - 10 years ago

This is crazy. We've been watching the numbers all day. Twelve minutes past deadline, and suddenly, Siloam Springs who's been winning for hours, and was the winner at midnight, is losing. Hah. Nice contest.

  • Matt - 10 years ago

Great day of showing pride for our downtowns. McMinnville, you guys were fierce. The polls closed 10 minutes ago with Siloam in the lead with 50.43% of the votes.

  • Susan Case - 10 years ago

The polls were suppose to close at 11:59 ET. Siloam was ahead at that time. They still have the polls open. Very unfair

  • Siloam #winning - 10 years ago

Dear Cheating is not winning - if you've been following the polls closely you'll see that SS and McMinnville have been at about 50/50 all day. I know it might be painful to see a smaller town do so well, but here's the thing: We have a ton of passionate people that have shared calls for votes over 350 times on FB, mobilized people in cities across the country, and our news stations have covered it to the nearly 500,000 people in Northwest Arkansas. If you've accused SS of cheating you might as well accuse yourself of doing the same thing. At 11:59 EST we are ahead and we hope that Parade magazine honors the cutoff of vote collecting.

  • Tyler - 10 years ago

Polls should be closed. It is 11:07 and Siloam is in the lead.

  • AndTheWinnerIs - 10 years ago

It's five minutes after midnight, Eastern time. Five minutes past the contest deadline and the numbers for Siloam Springs (which has been winning all night) are suddenly going down. Definitely don't trust this system.

  • Todd - 10 years ago

Seriously, fake? This photo is all over town and it's 100% legit. That's Cafe on Broadway on the left corner; had lunch there last Friday.

"I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him."- Abe Lincoln

  • meghan - 10 years ago

it's past 11.59 EST and SS is ahead!! The polls should be closed....

  • Haters going to hate - 10 years ago

For all the people saying this photo of Siloam is fake... It's not! That street looks like that! And for the person saying that we are cheating no we are just calling upon all or arkansas to vote for this town!!! And all the college students that go and are going to the small college in Siloam!

  • Cheating is NOT Winning - 10 years ago

I have been watching this voting very, very closely. It is painfully obvious to me that someone is using an ip address randomizer to enter fraudulent votes for Siloam Springs. When you refresh the voting results page every couple minutes and the votes are continuously increasing, non-stop, for hours… you know that something is rotten in Denmark.

This poll is being run on Poll Daddy and they have only two ways to “attempt” to prevent fraudulent voting. Neither is effective. One, is to place a cookie on the voters pc and the other is to track the voters ip address and limit voting to only one vote per ip address.

Cookies can be deleted form a voters pc allowing the voter to place multiple votes and a cheater can use a program known as a random ip address generator or ip address randomizer, to change their ip address at will, allowing them to vote over and over and over again. Such programs are widely available for free download all over the web.

From what I’ve been witnessing in this voting, that is exactly what is occurring in this vote. Someone is using an ip address randomizer to cast multiple votes for Siloam Springs. Addressing that individual, bear in mind that “cheating” is not “winning”.

  • amanda - 10 years ago

For the person saying siloam springs isnt a real place and looks fake..I got tons of pics if u would like to see my town..it really looks like that pic maybe not like a pic from someones phone..thats a professional photo..we were voted number 1 safest town in Arkansas. .main street really is nice lots of nice shops

  • Allison - 10 years ago

I live in SS, just a 1 min drive from downtown photo. This truly is Siloam and that picture is only altered for color purposes. It is a wonderful downtown and one of the most family friendly places. I am so glad I am raising my family here and only 20-45 minutes from the 'bigger' towns. Proud of my town!!!

  • Chris - 10 years ago

I have lived in McMinnville my whole life and out Main Street is full of life.. Not a day goes by where there isn't something going on. The local shops are great because everyone is friendly and the wine here is amazing..walking or driving down the street in the summer or spring is beautiful because all the trees have bloomed but the best time of the year is winter because the whole street is light up and it's amazing to see

  • Meredith - 10 years ago

I serve as the director of Siloam Springs' downtown association, and it's a joy to live in this town and work every day in our downtown. We're all celebrating similar themes and working towards preserving and developing what's unique and important about our places. Whatever happens, I'd like to visit McMinnville! But my heart is with Siloam. It's remarkable that a town our size has mobilized and stayed in the tournament this far. It's indicative of the real heart and momentum towards downtown revitalization here! When I moved here 9 years ago, our downtown had the beautiful architecture and the intrigue of the creek winding through downtown, but no destinations to really keep you down here. Since then, a dramatic transformation has taken place, led by passionate and dedicated creative entrepreneurs and community members. We now have 20+ truly unique, excellent retail shops, 5 world class eateries (including the best bar I've ever been to and a James Beard recognized chef developed restaurant), a vibrant farmers market, a growing biking and water sports community, and more. We love this town and we love being part of a significant movement to make our places more diverse, interesting, and sustainable over time.

  • Teresa - 10 years ago

Well I grew up in McMinnville and of course I would vote for my beautiful town. My husband and I love to drive downtown on our way home from anywhere. The other pic definitely of Ar. Is photo shopped or fake. I would love to be able to post the pics my husband had taken of the first snowfall at Christmas time. It looks like a Thomas kincade picture. Absolutely beautiful!!! So much to see and do in our historic downtown. My first job was at the Mack theatre...as was my two sisters and daughter. Many probably knew my mom in growing up which she ran the Mack theatre for multiple years in my preteen years. Vore for our town its amazing!!

  • Duhduh - 10 years ago

To anyone claiming the SS photo is fake...yes honestly it does look slightly edited to make the color better but our city does look like that :)

Very soon I am going to be moving to Siloam for college and just a few weeks ago I discovered they had their downtown and I am just going to say it is as beautiful as this picture! It is the cutest little town! Plus the cafés and resturants are not only gorgeous but the food and service is fantastic! There is one cafe that is a library and you can go sit in a beautiful room with walls filled with books and where there isn't books there is the beautiful old brick that makes the whole place feel so cozy and a place you want to just sit in for hours! I also can't wait to go shopping in all the little boutiques I saw while driving down the main road! Please vote for Siloam!

  • Molly Lunsford - 10 years ago

Some of the comments from fellow mcminnvillians are despicable. But don't judge the whole main street of McMinnville by a few rotten apples. McMinnville is a gorgeous town, the Main street leads to all local shops, wine tasting run by families that run the wineries. A great place to raise children, with a Montessori school just a few blocks away. The picture of Mcminnville doesn't even do it justice, that is just one corner of an amazing street and it's even more beautiful in the winter with the lights in the trees.

We have lived many places over our carieers however when we moved here we got rid of the packing boxes. Downtown is a magnet to everyone for eating, relaxing and socializing as well as live plays, wine tasting and meeting people. It is a dog friendly street including the Oregon hotel ad plenty of street restraunts. I do not think there is another place on earth as perfect as McMinnville. Iin addition to the everyday charm the "Dragging the Gut" , old time parades, Ailen days and Turkey Rama Festival and the "spruce Goose" in our town. Many of the bed n breakfasts are with in walking distance to the best Main Street in America.

  • Deedee Lewis - 10 years ago

I am so confused...this downtown in Ark looks computer generated and completely generic.not feeling any warmth comimg from this place.....PLEASE people..vote accordingly..this could be some kind of cruel trick..why on earth would anyone be voting for such a generic place as this place in "Arkansas"..which I doubt actually exists..or if it does..why on earth would anyone vote this blah place????

Siloam springs really does look just like the pic!! Really beautiful little town

  • Siloam Springs Fan - 10 years ago

Main Street in Siloam Springs is located in the historic district, and it’s wonderful. The waters of Sager Creek run through, and it’s a fun, peaceful place to shop and stroll. There are coffee shops, boutiques, gift shops, salons, vintage shops, art galleries, a museum and both casual and fine dining. Not bad for a city half the size of McMinnville! One of the newest restaurants is 28 Springs, whose chef, Miles James, was named as one of the James Beard Foundation’s “Rising Stars of the 21st Century (the foundation also nominated one of his books for a (‘Cookbook of the Year’ award).” He’s been raved about in Southern Living magazine, and is the creator of Ozark Plateau Cuisine, and Southern Living Magazine has raved about his food. Like McMinnville, there are vast quantities of wine, but moonshine’s also available. You can enjoy live theater and music at the Sager Creek Arts Center. In spring and summer, the local farmers market sets up shop downtown and stays busy on the weekends offering local produce, fresh-baked breads, handcrafted goods and live music. There are festivals almost year-round, including the Dogwood Festival, which draws about 30,000 visitors each year. You’d be hard pressed to find friendlier folks anywhere. And Siloam Springs has been ranked as the safest city in Arkansas, so you can leave your car doors unlocked as you’re walking around! Around here, you’re never far from peaceful forests, mountains and rivers, but if you’re looking for excitement, there are casinos and plenty of night life just over the border, a few short miles from Main Street. Vote Siloam Springs!

I agree. McMinnville has the best tasting cow testicles hands down. A dab of ketchup does wonders. We also have the most affordable trailer park space rent and a Walmart. We can find anything there. I can always stock up on diet Pepsi for my diet. Where else in America?

  • Kath & Kevin Golding - 10 years ago

We've had homes in McMinnville since the early 1970's. We raised our children here, and have been delighted to both observe and support the growing vibrancy of our little town over these 40 years.
McMinnville's main downtown street (Third St) has accomplished the perfect melding of arts and agriculture; commerce, creativity and culture...making room for the new (in both architecture and endeavor) while carefully preserving the traditional.
Third street is home to many unique, local-sourced restaurants (which proudly support local farmers, ranchers, vintners etc) gift shops, salons, brewpubs and even a long-time bike seller. We are treated weekly to concerts in the bank plaza in the Summer, and we marvel (young and old) at the enchanted avenue of lights twinkling in the trees that 3rd Street becomes in Winter. The farmers' market features BBQ & bakery-fare, in addition to a myriad of local fruits, veg, cheese, nut & lavender products. The Bitter Monk serves a worldly selection of beers and ales to complement the many restaurants & tasting rooms, & their new picnic tables offer welcome rest & shade to customers & market-shoppers alike.
Our world-class senior center & small-but-dependable transportation network ensures rich participation in downtown events for young & old alike, with the population swelling by thousands for the merchants' Halloween candy give-away & annual turkey industry festival. Upstairs spaces offer everything from conference & event space to intimate flats & tasteful office space.
What's important to know about McMinnville is that our little town makes room for and celebrates the many local endeavors, large & small, that invigorate our economy and give voice to the best, most creative and industrious among us. The people are friendly, patient and marvelously supportive of the town, the merchants, and the various municipal partners whose integrity, vision & generosity continue to create such a vibrant, welcoming place for all.
On Third St, the parking is free, as are the many lovely sights, sounds and smells of our thriving, beloved community. Without spending a dime, you could enjoy a concert, visit the library, catch a movie in the park or savor the smell of fresh bread and strawberries while enjoying a rest on a shady bench. While there, you may as easily see this year's Alien Daze King and Queen (in full regalia), a world famous chef or an internationally renowned college lecturer. Or you may see someone like me, strolling with my 90 yr old father, turning into Serendipity to share a hot fudge sundae before walking home from getting his haircut.
Most likely, whomever you meet will be smiling, and if you're lucky enough to get a seat at the Crescent for breakfast, you'll be smiling too!

In all my travels I have never experienced a place like Siloam Springs, AR (gush). Their beaches are beautiful with soft white sands and swaying palms. The downtown is filled with the scent of freshly baked pies delivered to the orphans by the local priests.

  • I seen that. - 10 years ago

I see that this is rigged. McMinnville is voting repeatedly. Bunch of crooked voters.

I have lived here for a year. The first time I saw this town I thought it had the prettiest downtown I had ever seen. McMinnville looks like a garden and has excellent restaurants, art galleries, along with a number of wonderful little shops. The wine country surrounding the town is also beautiful!

    AK is Alaska.

  • Bobby - 10 years ago

Guys, the two letter abbreviation for Arkansas is AR, not AK. I have no idea where Siloam Springs, AK, or where AK the state is for that matter.

Siloam Springs, AR, on the other hand, is in Arkansas.

In McMinnville, we are all thrilled that Nick, who owns Nick's Italian Cafe, recently was invited to New York to accept a James Beard Regional award. Very prestigious. On our main street we have a wonderful Japanese restaurant, a Costa Rican restaurant, a Spanish restaurant, a Mexican restaurant, a French restaurant, a Cajun restaurant, a bistro with local beers, a wonderful healthy food luncheon cafe and an organic grocery + deli with store with tables outside. The main street commercial area is only 6 blocks long, but it also boasts three art galleries, numerous tasting rooms, an Independent bookstore, a ballet studio, an old-fashioned ice cream parlor and a bead shop. It's like the Disneyland version of what a small town should be! Perfect!

No comparison, hang out in one of the progressive and open minded communities in the US, or middle America where things are probably good but not as up to par as here

MCMINNVILLE, OR has the most awesome downtown and Main Street! Rain or shine ~ it is busy, the lights are shining in the tree lined streets and people are everywhere. Day or night we are heading to our favorite shops, coming from our upstairs loft apartments, grabbing some fresh groceries at the corner, enjoying music in the city center park, going up to the roof-top bar for the sights and sounds of a beautiful small town.
There is a quiet and soothing hustle about McMinnville, friendly greetings and always something going on.
Take an easy jaunt to museums, wineries, theaters and so much more!

    VOTE for MCMINNVILLE, OREGON!

Yeah, the AK photo (regardless of if most of it is real) is totally Photoshopped.

I am the manager of the McMinnville Downtown Association so naturally I am biased. However, I have lived in Mac since 1977 and have watched it grow into the most beautiful downtown I have ever seen. We're called Oregon's Favorite Main Street for good reason. Historic buildings, eclectic boutique shops, more than 26 restaurant choices, many of which are nationally known, and we are the wine capital of Oregon. More than 300 wineries dot the landscape in our little county and we have more than a dozen tasting rooms within walking distance downtown. We are the home to the second largest UFO Festival outside Roswell NM, the International Pinot Noir Celebration, a renowned Farmers Market and other summer and winter festivals. You can't go wrong with a vote for McMinnville's main street. Thank you!

Siloam springs is the perfect place for America's hometown considering it's in the heart of America. Outstanding southern hospitality so anybody can feel like they have lived here their whole lives. Great weather all year and every season is of pure beauty. Just walking down the street gives you a sense of security knowing that an alien or bigfoot won't probe you whenever they want.

Jan, the picture is real, not fake at all. I personally know the photographer. Yes, we have great photographers too... Why it changed? Don't know but the first one didn't do our little town justice. And trust me, if u even visit our little gem, we don't need pictures to prove how beautiful it is. It's not just about what you see but the feeling u get walking downtown. Our community is full of wonderful people!

I have lived in McMinnville for a long time. This place is the most amazing town. Third street is the best representation of home i have ever seen.

Siloam Springs is beautiful. Its downtown is charming, and its surrounded by beautiful streams and trees. I hope it wins. And hey, Jan. It's Arkansas, not Alaska. And hey, Hitler, you suck.

I love McMinnville Oregon. I have lived in the area for over 32 years and the people here are great and very much into the community spirit. We have so many choices for dining, wine tasting and shopping. Our historic downtown has that great small town feeling but with so many options to choose from including an old fashion ice cream shop where the waffle cones are hand made fresh. I love it here and I have lived in 6 different states but this is the best!

I'd still like to know how Siloam AK changed their picture in the middle of the contest. Plus, that picture looks SO fake!

  • Mayor James McMinnville Jr. - 10 years ago

Don't forget McMinnville's annual testical festival! In Montana, they cheat and use bulls, but ours are straight off the newly minted eunuchs this town produces for export.

McMinnville is a wonderful place, and downtown McMinnville is great! Each season brings enjoyment and excitement, the people are friendly, and everyone is welcome. I've had friends and relatives visit, and cancel Portland trips or other tourist excursions to spend more time in McMinnville. There are many great places in the world to visit, but as far as Main Streets go, this is the tops. It is a real downtown where folks shop and done and relax and visit...and work.

To be honest, there is a big problem downtown McMinnville - where to eat - because there are so many options available! And each eatery is always adding new things to its menu. Can't miss McMenamin's Rooftop Bar or Nick's or La Rambla or Bistro Maison or Third Street Pizza or 411 or Community Plate or Crescent Cafe or Golden Valley Brew Pub or ....... I gotta stop! And there are many places to try (and buy) wine)...

Come visit McMinnville sometime, and enjoy yourself!

    I love McMinnville, Ore.

Take it from me, this little town has nothing on Germany, I think the people here are wonderful!! No Jews!

  • Matt - 10 years ago

I've lived in Siloam Springs for 13 years now, and lived in downtown for most of that time. Our downtown's vibrancy and selection of coffee shops, restaurants, a beautiful bed and breakfast and retail businesses, along with a creek that runs right through our downtown make for a truly unique and wonderful place to visit and live. #siloamsgotit

  • McMinnville Fan - 10 years ago

I have lived in many different states in my life and have always been drawn back to the beautiful Pacific Northwest! I've lived in many different towns in Oregon and without any doubt whatsoever; McMinnville is the most beautiful, picturesque little community I have ever lived in! Walking through downtown McMinnville is like taking a stroll through a Norman Rockwell painting. It truly is, main street America.

Siloam Springs is such an amazing place! The downtown is full of amazing places and people.

  • Sandy - 10 years ago

I moved to Siloam Springs from Los Angeles more than 20 years ago. I fell in love with the city's charm and history. There is a lovely creek called Sager Creek that flows throughout the downtown. There are three parks surrounding the downtown shopping and restaurant area. Everything is walkable and as friendly as can be. Visit Siloam Springs in Northwest Arkansas,...you won't regret it!

Siloam Springs is a wonderful example of small town America. I was born and raised here. I have returned here for retirement. It is the sort of place where you know where everything is and you also know a great many of the people you meet.

  • Joel Friedrich - 10 years ago

I have lived in McMinnville for 29 years and this is a wonderful place. Great people, great businesses and when I vacation I wonder why I left because we have it all here. Museums, art, food, wine and a beautiful countryside to bicycle through. A vacation spot that you do not need a vacation after vacationing here. You have to check out the erratic rock just outside town a glacier rock deposited high on top of a hill from the Missoula floods during the ice age. Amazing small town with a million different things to do in and around the area.

  • Ken Benkstein - 10 years ago

We've lived a lot of places, large and small, and we always are proud and eager to show off our McMinnville downtown area, summer, spring, fall and winter. It's completely pedestrian and bicyclist friendly, with ample car parking just blocks away. Great restaurants, a rooftop wine bar at Hotel Oregon, many places to taste the wonderful Willamette Valley wines. Can't beat it!
