The idea that Clara Barton is not on your list and must be included in the other category is disturbing.
I can think of no one except Clara Barton who should join Martha Washington in the history of U.S. currency.
Martha Washington was on 2 different silver certificates at the end of the nineteenth century.

Everyone Vote " Brie Cheese "

  • Mike Huckabee - 8 years ago

It's a disgrase to God and our Lord Jesus Christ that my wife Janet wasn't included on this list! By the way vote Huckabee 2016. Please. I'll do anything.

  • Beyonce - 9 years ago

    shut up

  • Jonathan - 9 years ago

I also feel Helen Keller is a worthy of consideration.

I am sorry but why is Beyonce even considered?. If entertainment should be thought of ( shouldn't be ) it should be Aretha. But come on so may more important woman to consider.

  • Tammie - 9 years ago

    How about Janis Joplin?

  • Nicole - 9 years ago

At first I thought "why isn't Julie Andrews here?" Then again she's English so I get why. But someone else that came to mind is, "howcome is Beyonce here, but not Meryl Streep?"

Clara Barton- American Red Cross and "Angel of the Battlefield".

I also had to write in Rosa Parks. I do not understand why she was not listed in the beginning. Now that people are voting for her - let's see her name listed.

**The highest tribute to Ayn Rand, is that her critics must distort everything that she stood for in order to attack her. She advocated reason, not force; the individual’s rights to freedom of action, speech, and association; self-responsibility not self-indulgence, and a live-and-let-live society in which each individual is treated as an END, not the MEANS of others’ ends. How many critics would dare to honestly state these ideas, & say “..and that’s what I reject?

It is a violation of Federal Law to portray the image of a LIVING person on United States currency.
PLUS: Franklin was not the only non president on US currency. Solomon Chase, Columbus & DeSoto have appeared as well.

Ayn Rand is an insane psychopath. Her only accomplishment was screwing up the minds of entire generations by glorifying sociopathy.

  • Brian Wallace - 10 years ago

Ayn Rand stated that the sign of the dollar was a sign of free trade and free minds.

Ayn Rand is an insult and a shame. How about women who actually contributed to the betterment of society, not just wrote books about how 'looking out for number one' is the only way to be?

And why not more women of color on this list? I'm disappointed.

LET'S MAKE HISTORY PEOPLE VOTE FOR SASHA GREY

  • Rosemarie - 10 years ago

The first self made female American millionaire Madam C. J. Walker seems more than appropriate to me.

  • Kyle - 10 years ago

I would like to see Eva Braun on that list.

  • Brandon - 10 years ago

Why aren't they listing the results in order of popularity?

  • Darren - 10 years ago

I wrote in Tonie Nathan, the first woman to receive an electoral vote as a vice-presidential candidate. Sorry Republicans and Democrats, you jokers are way late getting into the equality game!

  • Catherine Mellor - 10 years ago

As I voted for Ayn Rand, I thought she should be on a gold or silver coin/certificate, not a federal reserve note. I feel so ambiguous about this!

  • Jacques Fournier - 10 years ago

Ayn Rand is currently in the lead in this poll, which is about as ironic as having Andrew Jackson on the $20 central bank note. Vote for Janet Yellen so that people will remember her when they use them to wipe their rears.

You don't have to be a president to be on US currency. Neither Franklin nor Hamilton were presidents. I think Patrick Henry should be next. But if we do have a woman on the currency, Ayn Rand would be my choice. Read her works on your own to get an idea why, starting with "The Fountainhead" and then "Atlas Shrugged."

Ayn Rand was born in Russia in 1905 and grew up amid the turmoil of the Russian Revolution. Early in her life she sought to live in a free country and she dreamed of moving to the United States. In late 1925, she obtained permission to leave the Soviet Union for a visit to relatives in the United States, on the pretext of learning the American film business. Rand began her career with limited familiarity with the English language. She ended it as one of the most successful writers in US history. Her magnum opus Atlas Shrugged became the second best selling book next to the Holy Bible. Throughout her writings she had a profound reverence for America, and its founding principles. A 6-foot (1.8 m) floral arrangement in the shape of a dollar sign was placed near her casket.

Ayn Rand gave a moral validation to the concept of money. Glad she is winning. From Atlas Shrugged:
"To the glory of mankind, there was, for the first and only time in history, a country of money–and I have no higher, more reverent tribute to pay to America, for this means: a country of reason, justice, freedom, production, achievement. For the first time, man’s mind and money were set free, and there were no fortunes-by-conquest, but only fortunes-by-work, and instead of swordsmen and slaves, there appeared the real maker of wealth, the greatest worker, the highest type of human being–the self-made man–the American industrialist."

Ayn Rand has accomplished nothing for this country. Where's Dolley Madison, Mary Musgrove, or Jeannette Rankin?

  • Mark Coldren - 10 years ago

Ayn Rand pulls into first! I encourage anyone interested to read Rand's money speech - evergreen commentary on the meaning of money from her character Francisco d'Anconia - in Atlas Shrugged.

NO women should even be considered for the currency until she is president! It is a tradition to have presidents on the bills (one exception)! What is wrong with the coins? Why change the currency when everyone is satisfied with it? It would be a shame and utter disgrace to remove the very men who were the foundation for this country. They are the pride of America and some of the most important men in world history. Benjamin Franklin is the exception to being one of the presidents, but if you look at his contributions, he very well deserves the spot. If George Washington was removed for Beyonce or Oprah, I don't think I could live anymore and/or I would never take this country seriously again. Even the fact that Beyonce made this list makes people laugh at American priorities.

  • Jessica - 10 years ago

It's amusing that they included Ayn Rand in the poll considering that she advocated for a complete separation of state and economics, which would require the abolition of the federal reserve system.

  • Melora - 10 years ago

    Beyonce? Why not Judy Garland?
I wrote in Rosa Parks. I'm shocked you didn't list her.

  • Joe M - 10 years ago

Agree with others. Including Beyoncé and not Rosa Parks is ridiculous , even if it is just an unscientific poll for fun.

  • nicole - 10 years ago

People actually voted for Beyonce they must have been doing it as a joke Beyonce shouldn't be on here they could have put someone who actually did something in history like Rosa Parks she was brave and stood up for herself.

  • Bryce - 10 years ago

I dare to disagree with you Ryan. Beyoncé has become an inspiration to women everywhere, some of things she does are a little out of line, but we cannot ex

  • Seth - 10 years ago

It was a toss-up for me between Harriet Tubman and Eleanor Roosevelt. Glad to see they finished 1 and 2.

  • Adena - 10 years ago

I agree, Ryan. That's not cute.
I guess they wanted to include another minority on the list to make up for only having one.

  • Michele - 10 years ago

    Absolutely Agree Ryan!

  • Ryan - 10 years ago

The Fact That Beyonce Is Listed Is An Insult To The OtheR WOmeN And Plain Troubling.
