I know McKesson requires that all share rooms at their National Sales Meetings unless you were a manager. Been that way for years.

There are a million better places to save a buck than forcing people to share rooms.

At the end of a long day, the last thing that I want is to share a room with someone from work. And the last thing that they want to do is share a room with me watching "Modern Marvels" in my underwear.

Just finished ACE this year. No shared rooms among all that I know.

In the difficult economic times we are experiencing as hospitals and with the need and desire to keep our staff trained on current technologies, we have asked our staff to consider sharing rooms in order to make their attendance at conferences and education sessions more affordable --- and therefore also allow more staff to attend relevant education programs. At a time when hospitals are laying off people, it is hard to consider the luxury of a private room to be a necessity when the organization is doing their best to support ongoing education - which is both a benefit to us as employees and the organization. Having worked at a vendor previously, a coworker and I opted to share a room in order to upgrade to the conference hotel instead of a 30 minutes shuttle ride away. I think a lot depends on your relationships with your coworkers as if it had been a colleague I didn't already have a good relationship with, I could imagine it could be awkward.

We're only required to share hotel rooms for tradeshows and user group meetings. All other sales type travel is allowed to be individual rooms.

You should also ask whether the employees get to keep their points, travel or credit card. I know vendors (not all HIT) who channel all their points to the C-level guys, resulting tons of free travel. Fortunately, my employer does the opposite.

I worked for eclipsys and then allscripts. Eclipsys allowed you to get your own room. When we, um, "merged" with Allscripts, the policy changed. We were supposed to share rooms. My team managed to get out of this policy when we went to ACE because we worked with offshore teams and didn't think it would be fair to our roommates if we were in meetings up until 10pm and then again @ 5am... Allscripts gave in. (and it turned out we didn't have any meetings scheduled during ACE...)
