I have sat back and said nothing at this point, however when I read some of the things people are saying about Sheriff Whiddon, I must SPEAK out. I worked for the Sheriff's Office under Sheriff Rider and for a period of time under Sheriff Whiddon, until leaving and going to tribe for better pay, this is no fault of the Sheriff, the only one to blame for turnover of expierience is the BOCC.

Now lets talk about candidate TONY WILSON, I remember that he was IN CHARGE of TRAINING, lets see do any of you deputies remember a class put on by him. I don't, in any event maybe we should check the records if there is any..

Wilson is hanging his hat on training, this is a position ladies and gentlemen of the real world that someone gets when the are of NO USE anywhere else in the agency, therefore they are put behind doors and called trainers. Most L.E. officers I have worked with are all instructors, this is the proper term to be used.

Sheriff Whiddon has put GCSO on the map and into the 21st century. From the friends of mine that are still there I see most are happy with their jobs with minor exceptions. Living in this little poor county is hard enough, but put in a sheriff with the `mentallity of that from South Florida "Broward County S.O." and watch the spending go through the roof. Wilson does not have a clue as to whats needed here, I listened to his speech in Port Labelle, this week and was not impressed. Here's a question Mr. Wilson, with the current budget, you say you are going to put more deputies on the road, How ? If you can answer this one maybe I'll vote for you.

Some other concerns are who is your staff going to be? I think this was asked by another person allready and not answered. The rumor around the tribe is "Yates" is going back. Should you win please take him he's useless here too.

Concerned Citizens of the county from my view Sheriff Whiddon has done a good job, he has put in the INS building that was talked about for the 5 years I was`with the S.O. and yes it was someone elses idea, however they did not get it done and he did, this is just one example of his leadership and commitment to the people of Glades County.

  • Who are these people? - 16 years ago

I am glad that all these people have these good things to say about Tony, but I don't know them from Adam.

I am a taxpayer/voter in Glades Cty and my vote is for Whiddon. In the past four years there have been some problems in my neighborhood with the kids fighting. I called the SO several times myself and the response was very quick. The problems were solved by the SO and the "problem" is in jail. Another kid was out of jail for theft and the deputies patroled my area until this one got in trouble again. They warned me to keep the doors locked and one even stopped to see why I had left my vehicle door open. Just checking Ma'am...and did the same for my neighbor on another occasion. I've lived in MH all my life and got stopped for speeding by one of the local officers that has also known me all my life. I didn't feel like he cared a flip that I was a local. He cared that I was speeding and could cause an accident or be in one. I wasn't happy at the time, but looking back I'm glad that he was doing his job and not thinking..."Oh, this person is from MH", and turn his head.

We are small and need the connections that our current sheriff has. The resources that he is able to pull together because of his reputation is a "WIN" situation for the Glades.

Tony Wilson is a good christian man, who knows the ins and outs of the law, he's fare on what he decides. He loves his country, as well as the county he lives in. He is a straight foward type of man, he will tell you the truth of what he thinks not what you want to hear. I have had the honor of knowing Tony for 18 years.. VOTE FOR TONY WILSON...

    Hi all

First off Tony Wilson has my vote. Not because I've known him for years, as a matter of fact I don't know him at all, Never even had a conversation with him. But he will get my vote because something has got to change people.

I like Stuart as a person, but as a Sheriff.... well I'm just not sure about that anymore.

I wonder if he even knows what goes on around the place. He obviously does not realize that his administration SUCKS or he wouldn't have certain people in the positions that they are in.

Come on citizens, you know what I'm talking about. Because you have had these conversations with me.

Dwayne McQuaid... Why is this guy a Sgt. I observed him one time, act himself and disrespect a victim of an accident for no good reason. He was so rude that the Deputy taking the initial report turned extremely red from embarrassment. Not to mention I've seen him treat other people like crap. I've been told from employee's within the department that they also don't know why he is in the position he is in. I have also spoke with several of my fellow citizens who feel the same, As long as Stuart keeps this guy in the position he is in, with no discipline then the more were willing to vote for someone else.

All I'm saying is DON'T VOTE FOR STUART JUST BECAUSE HE'S YOUR FRIEND. If you truly believe he is the best guy for the job then so be it. But I'm sure that we have all seen things that would say not. And if Stuart does not know about these things, then why aren't the administration telling him.

If Stuart wins this race, which is highly likely, it will only be due to him being a good ole boy that is friends with every family in the County. And this is sad for me to say, because he's a friend of my family too. Like I said I like Stuart as a friend, but having Law Enforcement experience I can definantly say that the administration here needs improvement.

Stuart if you read this, I along with several citizens of Glades County are saying please, please please do something with Mr. McQuaid and let your upper administration know that they aren't better than any other citizen of Glades County and that they have to obey the laws just like we do. How can we as citizens expect to be scorned by people who are committing the exact same acts.

    Thanks, A concerned citizen

Sheriff Whiddon has been a huge asset to this county with his knowledge, leadership, and progressive thinking. While we do face many economic challenges in this county, Sheriff Whiddon has the available connections and resources to enable Glades county to continue to recieve funding for projects and enhancements that otherwise would not be feasible. My opinion may not mean much as a student, but as I have the right to vote just like anyone else my vote will go to Re-elect Sheriff Whiddon to keep moving in what I feel is the right direction.

I worked with Tony as a Road Deputy at Broward SO in the 80's and 90's. He was alway dedicated, honest and honorable, both personally and professionally. His professional experience and personal character make him a fine choice for Sheriff!

Whether you prefer to address him as Tony, or Mr. Wilson, or, if you are wise enough to vote for him to be your next sheriff, as "Sheriff", you must know that Robert Wilson does not stand on titles or ceremony. He is someone whom I was happy to have as a backup on the calls we shared, as a fellow instructor in the Broward SO Training Division, and as a friend. Robert Wlson makes no false promises, all he does is exceed the requirements of any job. I spent 20 years in the US Army and was responsuble for judging performance every day. Robert Wilson improves any place he works. For the good of Glades County, vote for Robert Wilson.

I have had the pleasure of working with Tony Wilson at ther Broward Sheriff's Office for nearly twenty years. Tony has always been a dedicated, top notch police officer. As a road patrol supervisor, I have seen him perform under pressure and without exception, he ranks among the very best deputy sheriffs I have worked with. Tony is a credit to the profession, well liked buy all, and would make a great Sheriff.

I have known this gentleman for over twenty years. He is man of his word and will always practice what he preaches. He is an honest, trustworthy, fair and straight forward individual.
His heart has always been in law enforcement and he truly cares about the men and woman who place their lives on the line every day to serve the community. During his tenure as a former FHP trooper and Deputy Sheriff, he learned and demonstrated his ability to deal with daily operational and administrative issues; law enforcement must deal with in today society.
It takes a well balanced and experienced individual to know the difference between understanding the concerns of the community and what is important to them, as well as meeting the needs and budgetary restrictions, state, county and local governments are challenged with. Many of these issues require a level and style of management that can approach and solve critical issues and fiscal responsibility while keeping the best interest of the community first and foremost.
As a guest to this site, and unfortunately a non-voting member of your community, I can only hope that those of you who read this; just take a few minutes to listen to or take the time to attend one of your community meetings where Mr. Tony Wilson is scheduled to speak. You can judge for yourself the quality of the man and what he can do for you, your neighbors your community and your county as a whole. Good Luck and vote based on the issues and the best candidate you feel can serve your communities.

I have known OF Tony Wilson for 30 years. His reputation for professionalism, integrity and "doing the right thing" even if it was unpopular were known in the Law Enforcement Community before I was ever fortunate enough to meet the man. When I did meet him and get to know him 15 years ago, first hand knowledge did not change my opinion.
He is not afraid of tough issues, he is a hard worker and he will get the job done. He has remained active in the field and is not one to rest on his laurels. He sees beyond the obvious and as one who has worked his way through the ranks he will be fair in his dealings with both employees and citizens.
A vote for Tony is a vote for integrity, compassion and competence.

I can think of no better person for Sheriff than Tony Wilson. Tony's ethics, integrity, and sense of duty will greatly benefit the citizens of Glades County. For as long as I have known Tony, he has never, ever, been a "figurehead", one who pads their resume's with empty certificates. Tony's resume is a list of true acomplishments that will only raise the bar for the Glades County Sheriffs Office. A vote for Tony Wilson is a vote to change the status quo!

  • Barbara Stewart - 16 years ago

Tony Wilson not only has credentials to get the job done, he actually has the skills to follow through, think out of the box and resolve the issue. And at the same time caring about the residents he serves and their quality of life.

  • Dennis K. Creamer, Sr. - 16 years ago

I have known Tony Wilson for over twenty years. He has extensive experience in Law Enforcement with a balanced background in operations and training. As Sheriff he will be an asset to both the community and those within the the Sheriff's Office.
Tony is fair and his reputation is one of honesty and commitment. As Sheriff, Tony has the ability to take this Agency to the next level. The employees and citizens will benefit from having a Sheriff of Tony Wilson's caliber and integrity.

Tony Wilson is the right man for Glades County.

  • Michael Thomas - 16 years ago

Tony Wilson is the real McCoy. I can't think of anyone (barring John Wayne) that I'd rather have in my corner. It's time to put a straight shooter in the top spot.
    VOTE WILSON FOR SHERIFF!!!

  • jd - 16 years ago

  • John Lawless - 16 years ago

Robert "Tony" Wilson is a long time law enforcement officer with an excellent resume and a reputation for honesty and doing the right thing. He will make an excellent Sheriff and provide the needed stability and leadership to foster a safe environment for the citizens of Glades County.
