How many pairs of underpants should I bring?

Seriously? You are doing this backwards! You start out with 50 pairs of undies, oldest to newest, and shed them along the way, thereby making room for the t-shirt from the Taj Mahal and the stuffed Dali llama from Tibet, and the various and sundry other souvenirs you MUST have to remember your journey. Although, you are following my father's mantra about packing for travel...take half the clothes and twice the money and you will be fine.

If I went on a world trip I‘d take with me:
    Minimum:
    A warm headband
A wool scarf (good scarves can be bought in Ireland or Scotland)
On wide-brim head (with Giants, A’s or 49er logo, made of the same material as baseball caps, protecting from sun and rain)
A Zipp-off trouser (the type which is used for mountain hiking, which can double as shorts)
Shorts which can triple as trunks for swimming and sleeping
    One baseball cap
A mobile phone/camera/small tablet with adapter for the different plug-forms and voltages (220 Volt in Europe and maybe anywhere else outside America)
    Toothbrush + floss
    Wet-razor
A tiny bottle of liquid soap
Closable 1 litre plastic bags for the liquids in the hand-luggage
    A 20 to 30 litre back-bag as hand-luggage
    Two cheap pens
Extra money for buying the additional clothes necessary to adapt to the weather conditions
An insulation mat (some 40 x 30 cm, for sitting on cold benches or church steps)
    Chopsticks from next-doors Chines Restaurant
    A small spoon
    A Small first aid kid
    A Small torch
    Enough paper tissues
    Some tennis socks and underwear
Some T-shirts (some of them old to be replaced on the way)
    A light sweater
    A warm sweater
A waterproof windbreaker/jacket with hood an several pockets (for money passport, headband and scarf)
Good walking shoes (waterproof, with good profile for walking)

    Optional:
    A pair of sports shoes
A pair of gloves (thickness depending on climatic conditions)
A 5 to 10 meter line (clothes line)
    A mosquito net
Some pouch where you can store/cary the passport/extra money below the shirt while sleeping
If you pass Germany, there you should by some mineral water in a multi-use plastic bottle. The bottle serves as an excellent water container for the rest of your journey
Sudoku or anything else which keeps time passing when being sleepy during flights

In talking about your underwear you used the word "member." Don't do that again.

What! No tiny LED Maglite or first aid kit! I never travel without them -- especially in third-world countries.

I'm so proud of you two taking the leap. You are making memories that will last forever. Love "keeping up with the Browns". Much more interesting than that other family that wants me to keep up with their perverse life.
