Do you agree with teaching languages other than English to preschoolers?

I am totally against young Australians having to learn a foreign language at school, which for most is a total waste of time and effort.

Australia is made up of many people of many nations who we are led to believe have turned their backs on their own countries to seek a NEW life as an Australian citizen. One therefore assumes they will seek to adopt and embrace our language and culture.

Teaching children a new language however can be very benificial in developing their brains, so why not begin at home.

Let the children learn sign language so that all Australian's may enjoy communication with each other and at least this knowledge would be of more use throughout their lives.

Of course if it must be a verbal language one wonders why our indigenous culture is not included or is it simply a case that to promote the Aussie way is being racist
