Should the man who was freed by mistake be forced to go back to prison?

If the point of prison is rehabilitation and this guy got his life together, I don't see how their human error can put him back in the system. It's cruel and a little horrific. He made a mistake in his past and he paid for it by going to prison, then the prison makes a mistake and he has to pay for that too? Doesn't seem like justice to me.

From the sound of it - this the plot of Les Miserables, the cops chasing a convict even after the convict has gone straight. Now, if this guy was living upright and moved on, why should he go back to jail for the government's screw up. If this guy hadn't committed a crime for 6 years of being free - why are wasting money and time locking him up - again. That sounds like double jeopardy to me.
