Carlin should take advice from Dean Wormer from Animal House:
Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son.
Hey Carlin, get a life and real job, then talk shite.

  • Timothy - 10 years ago

Carlin has always been a Met fan kind explains the lack of class.

  • cris - 10 years ago

    Chris Carlin Who?

This is another ....pompous / troll..... He needs to be pink slipped...along with the total troll Olbermann.

Time to send these "useless steers -- to --- the--- slaughter-- house".

  • salcan - 10 years ago

    I have 2 things to say about Mr. Carlin;
What's the point of being "Stupid" if you can't show it!!!!
    You just "Can't Fix Stupid"

  • Bob McNamara - 10 years ago

Chris Carlin......uhhhhh, who are you again?

  • Larry Leonard - 10 years ago

This guy is definitely full of crap!!! He is obviously heartless, also....How can anyone that watched a superior career of an honest, humble and devoted person be looked upon any other way but "Classy. This gentleman is such a role model for many generations to come, without a doubt! Seems to me, this ignoramus needs to keep his BIG MOUTH SHUT!! Enough said.....

why even leave a comment we all know who and what this young Man has done in his life time in baseball, I watch this rant by this jack ass, and I dont need to write any more, its all for ratings for this person, that cant even make up one bad thing that MR Derek Jeter. has done you watch tv and see these people put down everybody in sports and its sicking what have you done in life you jack ass. What record have you got, the record to spill shit about people.

The clown and fraud in this situation is Chris Carlin. He was, is and always will be a self-promoting windbag who is out for himself and himself alone. He is a complete and total phony and is not worthy of respect whatsoever. Let's compare. Derek Jeter. Athletic, handsome, successful and reasonably intelligent. Chris Carlin. Let's just go with the famous quote from Animal House. Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life. And if Chris Carlin doesn't like what I'm saying, I'll be more than happy to tell him to his face.

  • Pinstripes For Ever - 10 years ago

I don't even know who this idiot is, so that right there says all you need to know. But it's obvious that he is so insecure with his own career that he has to publicly bash someone else's. Derek Jeter is the model professional athlete, one that we all should want our kids to look up to. No, he never put up ridiculous stats but he was always about the team and he has all the intangibles that no other player in my lifetime has even come close to. Nobody cares about your opinion Chris Carlin (whoever you are). Maybe you should go back to covering your local high school football games so you'll demonstrate your ignorance to fewer people.

  • ThankyouDan - 10 years ago

Derek Jeter is a class act. I am only sending this comment in because after two decades in NY on The Yankees the best or the worst that someone can come up with is he's a clown! Then major league sports needs more clowns like #2!!!
I guess the real circus is the way so many people make a living off others.

  • bob dettling - 10 years ago

Yeah, it appears some people have problems here, are the women here the only positive people appearing? Or did someone find a bunch of negative morons!!! Liz & Diana are right, He did his job the right way for 20 years, no drugs, and all you morons is do is say negative stuff cuz you wish you were like him? Wow, that's the American way huh?

  • TW - 10 years ago

I have to throw a second comment in that I forgot.
    Notice the poll answers:
No, Derek played the game the way it's supposed to be played is the most answered.

This story has very little in it about Derek playing the game in a disrespectful way. Yet, that answer seems to be the opposite of what the media guy says. The only thing questioned by the story is this one year. There's no way anyone can compare 1 season to "played the game the way it's supposed to be played" for 19 years. When you look at it that way, it shows exactly why the word fraud is used. Come on people don't let the media do this to you. They're seeing if they write a controversial story with a controversial proclamation, if you will respond negatively, without reading it thoroughly. Shame on you media guy.

  • TW - 10 years ago

I'm a bit confused by the comments and headline I clicked to get here. Let me explain. It's common discussion in the media about how racy/controversial headlines and subtly-written/spoken accusations draw the ire of readers/listeners. Because we have been subjected to so many negative stories in sports we are quick to judge both athletes on both good and bad sides.
I want to point out a few things in this story:
#1 Why Jeter is called a fraud: “It’s that this has never been what Derek Jeter has been about. He has been about team, not me. He has never let us into his personal life because he’s always been about the team."
Read that a few times. The media guy is being completely complimentary to Jeter's entire career up until this current year. Also, what he's saying isn't even a putdown. Truthfully, if you're going to post about how great Jeter has been, what a great teammate he has been, you would also believe him basking in the glory this year, while his team has one of its worst years of his career, means he is being a fraud right now.
I didn't watch the video, but based on the written story here, the media guy is simply saying "The Derek Jeter we know wouldn't be worried about his farewell tour, he would be focused on making his team better."
It's hardly a slap to Jeter's career. Seeing that he's complimenting 19 of the 20 years. It makes me wonder if the media will start doing this more to see how much control they have over the emotions of their readers.
There's also something known as one-word psychology that is being used here as the word "fraud" has obviously triggered emotions, but read my point above about how Jeter actually has been a "fraud" this year, based on his last 19 years. He does seem completely lackadaisical to the fact that the Yankees are having a bad season.
Lastly, note that there is some anger towards Jeter, just like there was against Cal Ripken because he wasn't a big media guy, he keeps his personal life as personal as possible and doesn't give the media any fuel for their fire for negative stories. I really think everyone should read it carefully before posting.

  • HeadPiece - 10 years ago

Haha this guy just wants to be on the other side. just wants attention. What a moron.

  • Joe Barone - 10 years ago

One more thing, with most of the other athletes beating there wife's, girlfriends and children give me one thing bad you have heard about Jeter in the last 20 YEARS Carlin

  • Amy Jeannette - 10 years ago

What a jerk. He has no right to talk about someone he knows nothing about. Never watched his show, never will.

  • Joe Barone - 10 years ago

The best way to find out about a person is to hear the opinions of his peers........and Carlin listen to what the other players say about Jeter

  • WJ111 - 10 years ago

5 Championships. 6th All Time in base hits. 5 Gold Gloves. 14 All Star selections. At the most important defensive position in baseball his teams made the playoffs 17 out 20 years, and won the Championship 5 out of those 17. If you look across all sports that's an outstanding rate of success. 2 out of the 3 years his team didn't make the playoffs he was injured.

Derek Jeter is not a fraud. He truly is one of the greatest baseball players and athletes we'll ever see.

If you've ever listened to Carlin's morning radio show with Boomer Esiason on WFAN, you've heard Carlin shamelessly promote his own stuff, so if anyone is a fraud about this Carlin is.

  • Amy Pal - 10 years ago

I get what the writer is saying, it has never been in Jeter's personal constitution to call attention to himself; but perhaps the reason for his horrid performance of late is because he's calling attention to himself, via the Yankees organizationi to sell more tickets. I give the guy the benefit of the doubt.

  • Bruce - 10 years ago

Carlin is just showing how much of a jealous chump he really is.

  • big dick willy - 10 years ago

fcuk jeter the Yankees too.....they are a capitalistic regeme don't care about fans only money fcuk the steinbrenners and Cashman and jeter and rivera

  • Sippy - 10 years ago

This guy is a joke!!! Derek is real about the game always has been an always will be...this dummy needs a real job...he's our Captain forever!!!

  • john - 10 years ago

One last thought. I urge all fans of baseball and/or Jeter to never watch a Carlin broadcast again. He should go get a job at Stan's. Oh wait they won't hire him because he insinuated that people need a shower after they leave Stan's. By the way George, If Jeter asked you to be the exclusive interviewer during his farewell "tour" and SNY would pay you handsomely for it, what would your answer be? Come on, be honest now!

  • john - 10 years ago

I have been a baseball fan for over 50 years. This is the worst 5 minutes of analyzing a player I have ever heard. Most of his farewell gifts have gone to charity. so what if he gets paid from sponsors. Carlin looks like Babe Ruth without the talent and he still gets paid by the sponsors for SNY.

  • Tess Cline - 10 years ago

Derek Jeter is a class act and I love that he thinks enough about his fans and the game to say good-bye in a real way. He is the real deal and played the game with integrity using only his God given talent. He is the epitome of everything good that is "Baseball."

To you, Mr. Man, I say, "Be quite. You and all you other haters just keep your mouths closed, we don't want to hear it. If you find it absolutely necessary to criticize and talk smack about someone go stand in front of the mirror and pick your own selves apart. As for Derek Jeter, he is loved by millions and nothing you say can make us think any less of him, so save your breath!"

Thank you Derek for the honest way you played the game and for never allowing your fame to go to your head. Thank you for loving your fans as much as we love you. Through your hard work and integrity you built a legacy that deserves to be recognized along with the other "true" greatest players of the game. You are AWESOME and we will always love you!!! God bless you!!!!!!!!

  • liz - 10 years ago

Really... We went from baseball to beating woman? So just BC the man did a good job for 20 seasons its equivalent to a left hook?? You guys are fucking morons .. Maybe ray rice should come beat your ass

  • liz - 10 years ago

Diana I couldn't agree with you more, let the damn man finish his career he deserves to be appreciated and if you can't do anything but talk negative its probably BC you have nothing positive about yourself to say either.

  • Diana - 10 years ago

All of a sudden hes retiring and finally getting the attention he deserves and all u idiots can do is hate on Jeter. Have some respect for the sport and for the player. Mind your own business about his personal life as he doesnt give a rats butt about yours. Hes one of the few players that went out on that field to play ball and not brag about how great he is nor used enhancing drugs. Stop killing his vibe and if you dont like him then DONT WATCH HIM!!!

  • Chris LeCleir - 10 years ago

Jeter played the game the way it is supposed to be played. Not sure about his personal flaws, and I really don't care. His retirement will leave a hole in the sport that this generation will never be able to fill. Never mind that he has more hits THAN ANY OTHER PLAYER THAT EVER WORE THE PINSTRIPES ..... you never heard or read about his actions off the field- an impossibilty in this day and age. His presence on the field will be sorely missed.

  • Shannon Cross - 10 years ago

This guy is a total JERK, how could you be so negative about such a great athlete & great person. And how could he say that about Gatorade, Derek Jester has been one of the many faces for Gatorade for years. Get a clue!
And how can you compare Jete to Mo since Jeter has played almost EVERY single game with the Yankees, not to degrade Mo because he was amazing also but come on, Derek Jester a "fraud" get serious! He's thanking all his fans for their support over all of these years! Has he done this a million times before, no but he hasn't retired before either!
Also he has class for not letting everyone in his personal life, that is not a bad thing at all!
    Get a life!
Derek Jeter is amazing and should be and is a great, positive athlete that is looked up to all of the world! A good Godly man as well!
    Yankees Rule!!!!

  • Don - 10 years ago

I agree with Chris Carlin. For the first time in over 30 years I have stopped watching the Yankee games. It has nothing to do with them not being good, on the brink of being eliminated from playoff contention, etc. I watched every game during the dark years of the 80s so I'm not some bandwagon fan that jumped aboard in 1996. I just can't take this constant money grab from the fans that Jeter and Steiner Sports are attempting to cash in on.

It is beyond sad that people will pay $ for game used dirt, caps, uniforms, bases, etc. that were probably used for half an inning before being switched over to something new so that can be auctioned off also. You can take the view that people can do what they want with their money and that's fine. But I am so turned off by it I just can't watch. Counting down the days to 2015 spring training....

  • Victor Charlap - 10 years ago

Yes he is a fraud. He's all about the team, yet he takes time to be honored by other teams who give his charity money. Why doesn't he say what they give my charity I'll match it? Why not say that I'm not above the game and I don't need to be honored before the game. Paul Kanerko is retiring without a farewell tour. If Jeter wasn't a Yankee no one would care if he retires.

  • steve - 10 years ago

Moron...you are...no more words are needed...

  • Pat - 10 years ago

Let's not forget, Carlin is being paid by SNY who televise the Mets. I do not take anything seriously from SNY folks when it comes to expressing their opinions on the Yankees.

  • john bunch - 10 years ago

If it true Derek Jeter spread STD's including genital herpes, he is the bigger fraud than Lance Armstrong. I think Jessica Alba made this claim among others. To not tell women you are toxic disease carrier is worse than what Ray Rice did. Herpes is for life but a Left Hook is not
