The redesign is a disaster and its an accident waiting to happen. With the angled parking there is now no room for error when you are backing up to leave. If you are parked next to a truck or RV there is no way to see on coming traffic. Change it back and use the money to fix the sidewalk for the walkers.

Sunset has lost its charm! We walk along Sunset two or three times a week and were shocked, after being away for a week, to find the confusing and ill conceived re-configuration. Parallel parking here, angled parking there, no parking at the north end near benches and narrowed traffic lanes in places all make the new project unpleasant and claustrophobic.

It's interesting how those in local or federal government will decide what's best for the people without asking the people MOST affected what THEY want. With all the added traffic that "growth" in Edmonds has brought about, it seems senseless to create a bigger problem by causing more congestion on Sunset by taking away the roadway (for cars) to make way for pedestrians. Why not improve or replace the existing sidewalks that are uneven and cracked? That would seem to be a better solution. If my car needed brakes I would not fix the problem by giving my car a paint job! Where is the common sense today? Also, does anyone recall the "restriping" of the Edmonds ferry lane several years ago? Someone came up with the "great" idea of eliminating one lane on State Route 104 for accommodate holiday ferry traffic that backs up maybe 10 times per year. That idea proved to be a bad one too!

It seems to me that Public Works director Phil Williams is trying to make a "legacy project" for himself with our dollars by doing things his way and not what the citizens of Edmonds want. I think it's time for a change in leadership in the Public Works department before more of our money is thrown away on useless projects instead of other important infrastructure projects.

As much as a new level walkway will help encourage more people to stroll Sunset, the walkway eliminates essential parking, making Sunset difficult to visit and, in reality, less accessible. Those visiting friends or from a distance will have to park on 2nd. I wonder how those people will take to an onslaught of people parking on their street, especially since many use the street for their own parking. I just think the "new" Sunset Ave is short-sighted from the City of Edmonds. Their new found money would have been better spent of creating additional parking for visitors and shoppers. That would have helped the economy of our city, not pleasing a few strollers along a train track with view and a sidewalk that all use respectfully, allowing the elderly, dog walkers and couples to pass each other, saying "hello".

We really like the new "Sunset Boulevard"! I (Sidsel) is dependent on a walker and it's much easier for me to walk on the new, leveled surface. We used to walk in the bicycle lane where I was struggling to keep my walker straight. The pavement is made up of slabs and it's easy to stumble. We really appreciate the wide and well marked walking lane with the open view to the Sound.
