It's always surprising in these areas to find out just who owned holidays homes in the region. All sorts of patterns emerge. In Upper Beaconsfield a 'legal colony' existed where all the holiday homes were owned by members of the legal profession and other areas where owners were all known to each other through their work at the University of Melbourne or Melbourne churches. It is exciting that the holiday habits and stories of the well to do and ordinary people can be be seen in rate books and I look forward to seeing the stories from the Bellarine Peninsula.

The Bellarine Shire is an important part of our history, and our ancestors who resided there played a significant role in establishing Victoria to the wonderful State it is today. Having ready access to this part of their lives would be an invaluable addition to our research tools.
