The inclusion of Friday the 13th has to be in respect to the series as a whole. The original is by no means quintessential viewing. It's boring, poorly made, poorly acted and a clear ripoff of Halloween. Further, when people think of Friday and Jason, they aren't even thinking of the original. Friday the 13th's fourth installment, prematurely subtitled The Final Chapter, is the far superior and more quintessential slasher. I mean, Corey Feldman as a horror obsessed boy and Crispin Glover doing that weird dance?! Totally quintessential.
