But I wanted to be an Alicorn... We need a new poll!

@ Badly Drawn Turtle 1. I guess if you can find somepony(one) who wouldn't run from a changeling you could make a friend, although flutters and Tia are the worst to approach due to the fact that fluttershy is "shy" and probably terrified of changelings and Celestia regardless of your intentions wouldn't be easy to get to and even if you got the support of a few, that would be unlikely to sway the majority even if it's Celestia or Luna (although they would make it easier)
    2. I didn't say they needed love to survive only to keep healthy. A human could only eat vegetables and live but wouldn't be as healthy as one who eats both vegetables and meat

Let me state that being a Changeling can be done it right, it would just be extremely difficult which I don't think most of the people who voted for it (looking at the comments) thought through. Changeling is the race with biggest advantages and disadvantages and most are only looking at the advantages

  • Badly Drawn Turtle - 10 years ago

@Eric The whole "Changelings are hated" thing is what hacking the genre is for. Fluttershy is the most logical entry-point in Ponyville, but you could also try for Celestia directly if there's an opportunity to approach without being blasted by her guards. Either way (or with whomever you decide to start with, as long as it isn't somepony likely to smash you before you can explain yourself), you ease them into you being a Changeling - make first contact as a pony, have a bit of conversation to show you aren't an immediate threat, then tell (do not show, not yet) them, straight up, that you are a Changeling. Gauge their reaction, and proceed from there. Boom, you're in.

In addition, Changelings can probably survive without feeding on love. Chrysalis implies in her first appearance that she just discovered Equestria, so they must be able to traverse quite a distance without love to feed on.

That said, picking any one of these (including Human) is really a Russian roulette; you have no idea which Equestria you'll end up in.

  • Eric - 10 years ago

I Think all of the people voting Changeling are ignoring the race's biggest flaw. They are hated in canon, sure you could disguise yourself (as and existing creature/pony not an OC for those saying that) but if you are at any point discovered you'd be thrown out (or worse since we don't know all of Equestria's forms of punishment) and then they'd probably bump up security so you can't do it again. Lets also not forget the dependency on love to keep you healthy which would be really hard if you get caught. On one last note while a lot of you don't agree with the hive mind concept that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. So what if it turns out it does? Seriously people voting changeling aren't thinking this through (or maybe they are and just don't care lol)

  • Kai - 10 years ago

Why is "remain human' taking a strong 2nd place. O.o

  • fluttershy - 10 years ago

Changeling because I could just make myself a pony?

  • Oros_Abaddon - 10 years ago

Dragon! As long as I am able to keep my intelligence and memories. Human otherwise. I would try my best to destroy Equestrian as both.

  • Soviet Dash - 10 years ago

Go changelings! Today, this vote poll, tomorrow, THE WOOORLD!

  • phendrax - 10 years ago

    A phenix plz

  • Roosje - 10 years ago

I would want Dragon Pony hybrid but i chose Changeling cause you can adapt your apperance you can go all alicorn, unicorn, pegasy, earth and more

  • Aceark - 10 years ago

    Dragons.......then become Deathwing

  • MissingLynkz - 10 years ago

Hmm, I know the need to keep polls limited, and just have the community picks their favorite listed choice...

I gotta point out the lack of breezy and "beastial". Just because the "beasts" don't speak the same language as ponies or have magic they are labelled as "pets" and dismissed or monsters and feared.

So I chose changeling so's i can become a cat. I shall run along meow to type up a petition for Animal Rights of Equestria, or A.R.E.

    A.R.E. you fair?

  • Gokudomatic - 10 years ago

Human is a big no-no for me. I don't want to bring this error of Mother Nature to the perfect world of mlp. And that won't respect the spirit of roleplay at all, anyway.
    I choose changeling.

  • Antimon - 10 years ago

Human, cus as a changeling I wouldn't be accepted and get to hang with my pony friends while as a Human I am a new unseen curiosity, I'd be the talk of the town, ponies would flock to me to see this strange new creature, Twilight will surely want to study me intricately, and I could impress them with my fingers and all the things I could do for them :) and Lyra would be my best friend cus I proved her right.

  • Badly Drawn Turtle - 10 years ago

Changeling. Not only is there evidence that they can, in fact, go beyond copying Ponies (see Issue 1 of the comics), and that the "hive mind" downside people keep mentioning is wholly unsupported by canon; my new body would also come with both flight /and/ magic. I'm a virtual Alicorn without doing anything!

To address concerns people have on the nasty, warlike nature of the species; let me remind you that all we've seen of them are as an invading force. The forefront of a highly disciplined army can hardly be considered exemplary of their a society as a whole. Similarly, as part of an army, much of their similar appearance could be put down to the typical army tactic of wiping out the identity of its troops - the one that promotes identical hair-cuts and uniforms. And considering they can change appearance at will, it wouldn't be much of a leap to think that even the soldiers may normally look substantially different from each other, and just hide it while on duty.

The only remaining difficulty, then, would be love. But assuming the Equestria I end up in is pretty much canon to the show, and I don't become genre blind upon arrival, that won't be much of a problem. (Hacking the nature of reality, go!)

    @Swash
I can think of two drawbacks... no, wait, three:
First and foremost, the Greed. This isn't any normal greed, mind you; it's Dragon Greed. Spike completely lost control of himself; it's instinctive, it's overwhelming, and it's always going to be lurking in the back of your mind, ready to take over if you let down your guard.

Second, we have the impacts of size. What are your long-term goals, to be pursued over your new, functionally immortal lifespan? Chances are, what you have in mind will get considerably more difficult as you get bigger. Imagine anything from playing sports, to reading, to even just finding enough food to satisfy you once you reach the size of a small house. It isn't just about not fitting into buildings; as far as we've seen, Dragons are the most primitive race in the show, so it's unlikely that any of the comforts Equestrians enjoy have been produced in a size suitable for any but the youngest Dragons.

Third, we have the general reaction of ponykind to your presence. Sure, they behave with mild curiosity, or not at all, in regards to Spike. But when they emphasize that he's a /baby/ Dragon, they really mean it. Spike is only the size of a child to the Ponies. Put a larger Dragon in their midst, and you're likely to get the typical "run for your lives" scene that Ponyville is known for. Even when Twilight, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash (also Spike) faced off against three young Dragons eacah about the height of Celestia, they ran for it. Considering the sorts of monsters that they /haven't/ run from (a giant Manticore, an entire Changeling army), Dragons must have quite the reputation. That the race is seen more as fearsome beasts than as intelligent creatures is shown every time a non-Spike Dragon is encountered.

Certainly, these can all be addressed with proper preparation, but there are definitely downsides to being a Dragon in Equestria.

P.S. I'd also have convenient holes. I could keep my keys in them, do amazing yo-yo tricks through them, use them as binoculars... Maybe even get Pinkie to teach me how to link them all to hammerspace.

  • Swash - 10 years ago

I honestly can't see any drawbacks to being a dragon. You maintain your upright posture and fingers (likely drawing Lyra's attention), plus the added benefits of a muscular tail, tough scales, fire breath, possible flight, and the opportunity to experience an exclusive cuisine. I'm sure getting too big - or having your lifespan stretch out painfully - wouldn't be an issue, because if Meghan wants a happy universe in which Twilight doesn't outlive her friends, she'd damn well better make sure Spike doesn't outlive OR outgrow his world. That may be headcanon, but it's justified headcanon.

  • Mikkelib97 - 10 years ago

Changeling. Because then i will be able to make myself look like my OC, which i highly doubt will stand out among other ponies. I`ve kept his design very close to the tv-show design.

  • Pony Paradox - 10 years ago

I chose Changeling. I've never really bought into the whole "hive mind" thing which seems to be the popular opinion about changelings. In the very least, I imagine that Chrysalis' defeat in Canterlot means that Changelings would be free to choose their own path. Mostly, I'm just in it for the badass powers they get.

  • Dalzaar - 10 years ago

For me it was a close run between Griffon and Zebra but the more ponylike creature won it for me.

Zebras will most likely have easier time to mingle with ponies and it has been hinted that they have a magic of their own and they got cutie marks too(they are kewl).

I can understand the popularity of Griffon, human and Dragon options but I find it strange that so many would choose Changeling. From what we have seen of them they seem to put very little value on individuals as in their attack on Canterlot they instead of magical projectiles or use of weapons preferred to attack by ramming into things, they seem to have very little individual personalities and some have hinted at a hivemind like control in them....plus even with shapeshifting their need to feed on love means if they try to be part of a pony society they are in a way living on borrowed time, because it's only a matter of time before they are discovered and well....ponies don't like em so being thrown into a jail could be very literal death sentence as there most likely will be nothing to feed on there.

Wings and magic are cool but for me the downsides are just too big to even consider changeling.

  • Boardgamebrony - 10 years ago

I narrowed it down to Zebra, Griffon and Human. I thought about changeling for a bit, but I wouldn't want to rely on or be controlled by Chrysalis or any other changelings in-charge. Griffons really appear in pony society from what the show has displayed, so you'd be stuck in griffon society mostly. I don't know about Zebras. I like Zecora, and it is the closest thing to a pony, but again, wouldn't I be in Zebra society? It just doesn't feel the same. So I chose remain human. Let's do this thing, LYRA! :D

  • Silvadel - 10 years ago

Griffon -- you get to be a pegasus with hands of a sort, and can still eat meat. Sounds like a real straight up choice.

Changeling is bad because you choose that and pop through as a drone -- then you hear the hive mind calling to you and get orders from your queen. You are now hers. Game over.

  • lordelliott - 10 years ago

Remain human, have some fun, and then go on a quest to find a way to become a Unicorn or make a pony human. :D

  • Knewred - 10 years ago

What bugs me about changeling OCs is all the differences people make to them. People add these manes and colours, eye shapes, eyelashes etc and by the end of it the only way you can tell what it is is by the hooves. Oh, sure, my OC is actually a changeling, but at least I'm a normal changeling, and identify myself by staying in the form of a pegasus usually. And my OC doesn't go around assassins creed style looting everything, which I've never really liked.

  • Mule - 10 years ago

    None taken.

  • Frith - 10 years ago

Rats. Viking Caribou isn't one of the options.

  • some_guy - 10 years ago

If I can't be a pony, then I think that I'd remain a human. A lot of those other options seem very interesting, but I think I'll just stick with my good old human body. Plus, that would make for some very interesting situations.

  • Matt - 10 years ago

    @Isn't_it_amazing

Changelings can only change into other ponies.

  • Isn't_it_amazing - 10 years ago

Obviously changelings will win! You can change into all of the ones on the poll

  • Stephen - 10 years ago

I think "all of the above" is the clear winner here.
