I'd much prefer Dieselpunk to steam.Think of anywhere between 1910-1950. So Indiana jones/tomb raider or WWII or Gatsby themes. In short, a more probable steam punk.

None of these look appealing. I would, however, love a Western series based on Andy Price's comic, with the obvious addition of Spike as a come-from-behind hero in the season finale.

I'd go with a hybrid of a more modernized variant of the current setting, but stylized as dark fantasy/ goth-punk, straight out of the 90's with fun supernatural anime. Think The Crow, Spawn, Tim Burton's Batman, The Darkness/Witchblade, or White Wolf Games classic "World Of Darkness" Universe, crossed with with Soul Eater, Jing: King of the Bandits, Karin & Rosario Vampire.
Ponies in that type of style, would kick so much flank.

As far as his duties, he kind-of follows a knight's role, but I don't see him as completely a knight. I just see him as a Captain, as in the show's canon. I think it would be cool to have an official knights' order in Equestria (maybe established by Shining Armor?).
OK, after much thought I got it: OTHER. A Land of the Lost scenario in the other side of a portal to a wide grassland plain with distant forest and mountains. Here be monsters. The portal was only one way and the mane six are stranded with just their wits and magic to aid them as they deal with wilde beesties and try to find a way back to Equestria. At least there is plenty of grass to eat.

I'm sure we have equestria girls for modern earth.

I'm going with Steampunk because it seems like that would change things the least. Not very adventurous, but I like Equestria pretty much as it is. If it ain't broke. . .

Isn't Shining Armor kinda like a Knight already?

I voted Steampunk and maybe that's just me but... isn't FiM already Steampunkish? Kinda steampunk with magic? Just look at it, every piece of technology used in Equestria is either magic (Unicornian electronics being based on enchanted gems seems to quite a common headcanon) or steam (earth ponies and kinda Pegasi and clouds) based. The main mean of heavy transportation is by air - from what we've seen so far they use airships wherever we would use normal water based vessels. And that kinda makes sense considering large chunk of population lives in the clouds. You see, the result of this poll does not surprise me at all. The way I see it these two don't just seem to match - FiM was steampunk all along.

Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of steampunk. I much rather like post-apoc or sci-fi, but for ponies?
Nooope. Ponies don't need grimdark hypertough grimy macho /stuff/ they need to be ponies.
And just throw some airships into that, because airships are bitching but don't actually mess with the setting that much. I voted Steampunk, because theme.

What is Steampunk? ;-;

Other: I want it to be like some middle ages/dark ages-esque setting with some advanced technological advancements. Since we have technology that are greatly scientific in the show like the Super Cider Squeezy 6000, and Twilight's machine in Feeling Pinkie Keen.

Honestly I feel that the show is already in the modern age, albeit maybe more like around 1980's. You can see evidence of electricity use and simple computers in the show, and the comics have a whole slew of modern objects in them. I think it's more just Ponyville is a simple farming town and Canterlot Castle is a historical relic, it'd be like judging earth's technology based on a rural farming town and buckingham palace. Also they don't seem to use fossil fuels and we don't really see too much of the indoors of the various houses, mainly bedrooms and wherever they work.

If FiM were suddenly a different setting, especially any of the settings provided in the poll, I can honestly say it would no longer be a show I'd have any interest in watching.
I think that post apocalyptic would be the most interesting one to think about. Think about it.
Equestria is a post apocalyptic Earth... That's why someone Equestria's nations are like earth, along with a lot of other things... Just an idea though~

I wouldn't mind a dark ages setting where the main characters are attempting to fill in a gap, not necessarily wittingly (i.e. finding or bringing light to the times).

If you ask me, Pony is already kind of Medieval...All we'd need are knights, really.

Honestly, I like the setting it's in. Maybe if it was more consistent with the tech-levels (Some episodes have steampunk-ish machinery and castles, others have modern boats and skyscrapers; some have old-time projector movies, others have video games; all in all, it's a very confused world.), but otherwise, I wouldn't change a thing. I picked Steampunk, because that's the tech-level I'd like to see Equestria settle at. Who doesn't like literal airships?
(The confusing juxtaposition of technologies makes more sense in the context of the Reflections arc of the comics* (#17 - #20), but it still bothers me...)
{*Anypony who's still holding out on reading the comics: I implore you to reconsider. Everything from The Nightmare of the first season returning in what may be the most epic villain arc to date in MLP canon, to the only canon depiction of the mysterious Starswirl the Bearded (not including the stylized profile of him in the Rainbow Rocks exposition scene), to Luna actually living up to the title of Best Princess; if you don't read them, you really are missing out.
End totally irrelevant tangent.}
Post-apocalyptic. Because Fallout: Equestria. lol
