I fully support everyone paying their fair share, I am happy to do it. I understand EZPass system is safer than the toll plazas we used to have on I-95 & the parkways. I had toll plates for those toll booths back in the day. However, we are paying the highest taxes in the country for this little state already. Are the burden of the tolls again going to fall on a few while the majority are on a free ride from the state infrastructure? For example will Southern CT drivers being paying the tolls on I-95 while drivers on Rt 8 or Rt 2, and so on get a free ride? Again why would highway toll revenue be used to subsidize rail and other transit that will still fall short of the goal. I can take mass transit only so far and then I am stuck for the last five miles to get to work? How many others have the same impediment to utilizing the highly subsidized mass transit? I am eager to see the proposal and evaluate the fairness for all CT drivers to share in the costs and benefits fairly.

  • prodeath - 9 years ago

For just a second think about why the tolls were removed, enough said...

  • John - 9 years ago

Why do they have to be at the border of I-95, Merritt Parkway and I-84? I bet if they propose to put the tolls on I-91 and I-84 around Hartford there would be no tolls.

  • Donn Lowe - 9 years ago

I think tolls at the state lines are a consideration. You have to pay N.Y. to go thru their state and N.J. and Mass. have tolls on their turnpikes, why not in Ct.? BUT who is going to MONITOR the funds that are generated because we ALL know the politicians will use the money for other purposes and THEY CAN'T BE TRUSTED !!! I feel Ct. drivers should get a free pass at any trolls established also, Lord know's we pay too much in taxes already.

  • Tracy - 9 years ago

People just drive through Connecticut to get to their destiny of Massachusetts or points further, if we had tolls at the state lines coming in and leaving the state, it would help significantly and the money should be used for our infrastructure. After all, the transients are just "passing through" to make their trip easier and we should charge them for that. The highways are worpped from all the cars sitting in traffic. We pay enough in property car taxes, and those of us who use the highways to travel within tthe state should not have to pay tolls too! The "passing through" drivers should. It might help with the traffic problems, especially in the summer.

  • nick - 9 years ago

He's crazy, just another four letter word for taxes. Any idiot can run this state the way he does, any time they need money they come up with new ideas to take from the people. The states around us with tolls, their highways are not any better. Let the people decide if we what them. Why leave it up to tax hungry Malloy .since the tolls were eliminated some 30 years ago, what has this state did. Nothing!!! They waited till the roads suck, nowhere lets get the tolls back. Learn how to balance the budget first .

  • CKEYO - 9 years ago

I remember the long long lines on Rt 95 trying to cross Baldwin Bridge over Ct River Traffic backed up MILES on Rt 95 North and Miles Rt 9 South No fun then taking down toll booths solid concrete another year taking them down. I remember The fatal accident when Tractor Trailer Killed 6 or 8 people on toll booth on Rt 95 It will happen again I am about to tell Ct Goodbye sell house and Never come back This state would be better off going to Indians Not the DemoRATS

  • peter - 9 years ago

with easy pass available now, tolls should be a lot easier to navigate than before. just have them at the borders, no need to have them every so many miles. you have to pass through Connecticut to get to New England to ski or go to the Cape, so why not take advantage of it. just think of the money it will bring in. If the politicians do their job the extra money could be used to lower the gas tax, car tax and sales tax, the towns where the tolls are located should get some special reduction on their property tax. It would be a win win for everybody.

  • Jim - 9 years ago

Yes we should bring back tolls at the borders only. Too bad the media only shows pictures of the old Stratford toll Booths. All contagious states except Vt. have tolls and they are booth less and use EZ Pass so no need to slow down. Connecticut is the gateway to most vacation spots and we are giving out of state cars a free ride. Have you ever driven through their states. Hum, good luck and bring your wallet. If introduced the toll fees must be used only for improvements to transportation infrastructure.

  • Al - 9 years ago

What are we paying these extremely high taxes for. Not for short bus transit that is only for a very few citizens. Let's get the taxes down with the average of the country, but not with deadly tolls.

  • Keith - 9 years ago

How soon the taxpayers forget. Seems to me we had a state income tax dropped on us with the premise being returns would be for our highways and roads, then then tax would be lifted, and some wonder why faith on government is declining. Here we go again.

  • Margaret Jacobson - 9 years ago

As long as all the funds go to roads ,not rails or buses or the general fund . Us rural dwellers need road improvements .

  • Gloria - 9 years ago

As long as the tolls are at the Borders of the State ONLY! and that the Revenue is used specifically for our Roads ONLY (not to be put in the General Fund) which are in very bad need of repair.

  • Klaus - 9 years ago

What happened to all the money generated from the gas tax to be used for the roads? Isn't the interstate federally funded? Every time we hear it would be used for a particular purpose, they lie. Look at the casino revenues and lottery. It was for education. Not anymore... I can't trust our legislature for anything.

  • Skippy - 9 years ago

Excellent! Maybe we can bring Gov.Weicker back too, and he can tell us about the state income tax that would be temporary until we get back in the black. So glad I moved away from CT and its money grubbing lawmakers.

  • Lori - 9 years ago

I have to agree with Boris. My first thought was the revenue from the tolls will not be spent to fix CT roads. Be ready to hear about the 5 cent grocery bag tax as well. Happy New Year!

I think that what you wrote made a great deal of sense.
However, think about this, suppose you added a little content?
I mean, I don't wish to tell you how to run your website, but
what if you added a title that grabbed folk's attention? I mean If it meant better roads for
Connecticut, would you support bringing back tolls? (poll
8551687) | Polldaddy.com is kinda vanilla. You might glance at
Yahoo's front page and note how they create
post titles to get viewers to click. You might try adding
a video or a picture or two to get people interested about everything've got to say.
In my opinion, it would make your posts a little bit more
    interesting.

  • Dan - 9 years ago

This would help us more than hurt us. The tolls should be at the borders. The issue CT faces, is that people commute through the state, using our roads, and never stop due to the short distances. Tolls would allow us to improve the roads and profit off the people free riding to NYC or up to the cape. I's just happy they are thinking of other ways to improve the state without having to take money out of our pockets. Take it from the people that do not live here.

  • Bill - 9 years ago

    What happened
Reduction in pollution that was the big cry to remove them. This is just one more ploy to grab additonal money.
One more reason I didn't vote for him

It's hard enough living in this state tax wise especially being retired. I'm trying to talk my wife into leaving this state for good. You cannot retire here on SS but you can in other states.

  • maryann - 9 years ago

Cut the spending and no raises!

  • Frank - 9 years ago

Traffic is bad enough now. Bring back tolls traffic will get worse.

  • Mike - 9 years ago

I support toll at the gateways to Connecticut to capture the pass through traffic. Tolls in the middle of the state would be a great inconvenience to a vast majority of our residents.

  • boris - 9 years ago

The problem is they will tell you that the revenue from tolls will go towards fixing roads but once they are in magically the revenue will end up in the "general fund" and the roads will still be a disaster.

  • Tom - 9 years ago

Bringing back the tolls will increase traffic congestion for an already overcrowded road plus the following.
Remember the traffic accident at the Stratford tolls where people, including children died in a fire after a crash at the tolls. Remember the shoot out at the Greenwich tolls after a holdup in Darien where Greenwich and State Police were involved in a gun fight with the perps while innocent drivers were stuck at the tolls hoping not to get shot.

  • Es - 9 years ago

People are struggling enough to surive and to support their families in Connecticut. An additional bill does not need to be added, they make enough money off of us as it is. The real issues are not being taken care of as usual; like our children dying on these streets everyday over drugs, drug addictions, suicides, shootings in school and streets, etc... DO SOMETHING ABOUT THAT... Make more available to them, give them HOPE! Thats all these kids want and need, HOPE. I know there may be thoughts about parents raising their child right but a parent can raise a child to be a genius, well-mannered, respectable, all the positive quality they can possess but they will choose their own paths, no matter what. There are just too many bad influences and peer pressure that these children face that is on another level now-a-days. I have never seen anything like it in my days. Help our children, save them, all of them, no matter the ethinicity, they are all the same, going through the same struggles internally, they all need help and more resources can do that.

  • Mark - 9 years ago

When the tolls were shut down it was reported that they generated 14 million in revenue and cost 12 million dollars to operate. The net was 2 million dollars and it impacted the federal funding we received for road work. So the net result was negative. This is just the money side. Safety is a good reason to keep tolls out.

  • Brenda - 9 years ago

I used to be a toll collector back when we had tolls . They used to bring in alot of revenue and alot of it was from trucks and out of state vehicles. Besides all the states around us still have them. I say bring them back

  • Pam - 9 years ago

Are they going to take away the personal property tax on cars? I thought that was trade off for no toll. If we get them back no more personal property tax on cars!!!!!
