Should Florida lawmakers require every boater to complete a boater-education course?

A boating course, that meets the NASBLA requirements, and requires a proctored exam, is essential. Our boating laws are adequate but anyone can just buy a boat and drive away with no knowledge of the laws, regulations and best practices. This puts everyone on the water at risk. Many states require licenses, similar to the drivers license, with formal testing, to verify understanding of the laws. Florida should do the same.
Often, on the water, I encounter people operating in an unsafe manner. The United States Power Squadron frequently runs courses and every boater should avail themselves of this service for their own safety and that of other boaters.

When we first moved to Florida decided it was best to be better educated in boating. Took the two day course with the Powersquadron. Not only did we feel we got a great education in boating, we made friends
With same interests. I know people who grew up here feel comfortable but it never hurts to be refreshed. It was nice to see the kids in the class who must take the course.
