Should Thunder Bay require homeowners to keep the sidewalks plowed in front of their properties ?

I would like to know which city councillor is going to volunteer to go shovel out my 75 yr old parents sidewalk? Considering my back is usually broken by the time I finish shovelling out my own driveway. And who do you figure can shovel out the sidewalk after the street plows leave a two foot high bank of heavy snow. I'm near a nursing home so I guess you don't want anyone to enjoy fresh air on a nice day maybe people will just walking on the streets....now there's a solution!

It's already hard enough on the elderly to make ends meet on their pensions. This is just adding another strain on their limited budget. What a shameful thing to do.

If they want to save money, maybe stop running the sidewalk plows down the sidewalks 8 times a day when it hasn't snowed in a month.

You knew it was going to be proposed at some point!!!
I would suggest that the City staffers clean up their own house first before they attempt to "download" services to the tax paying citizens. Quash all the spending on the unaffordable event centre and we can have funding for sidewalk cleaning for decades to come!

its an extra burden on the homeowner..and you must remember many people are not home every day so there will be hundreds of "gaps" in sidewalk clearing...leading to hazards, fall, injuries and also liability of the city..what exactly are we paying taxes for? it will be nice for people to walk to the event center though when everyone shovels the sidewalks for them...

It's almost as if we punish the aging generation for the ambitions of a younger and lazy generation.
Priorities have to put in place now.... do we really need an Event Centre so some can leave there mark on the City after they are done with politics. Between hydro, water and gas and the carrying charges for those on the increase, basic survival for anyone who owns or rents is a struggle. Now having to pay for more snow removal for older people... neighbours will only do so much!
