The Big Bang Theory is an absolutely horrid show that is only found funny by 12 year olds. It's based off of faggots using big words and degrading the only two women on the show.The Office is a legitimately funny show that doesn't require a laugh track. Michael Scott all the way. The Big Bang Theory is a great show. I have had so many good laughs after a stressful day of school. And it ties into my calculus and physic classes so it's pretty neat. I love Big Bang!!! Go Sheldon!!!

Amazing shows are about emotions. About what they make you feel with the writing and the character developments, etc. It is rare when you can feel more than laughter or sadness with a show, and THE OFFICE brought this dynamic greatness to TV- you name an emotion, the office has made you feel it. TBBT can be a great show, sure, but the politics of feeling accepted etc. (as some of you are mentioning that TBBT has made you feel), are too personal- there is a type of rubric used when determining a show's greatness, and TBBT pales in comparison to The Office. Michael Scott wins.

It's sad that Sheldon will probably win. Michael Scott is one of the greatest characters in TV history, and yet Sheldon and his simple humor panders to the average middle american (of which there are too many).

As much as I love TBBT I love The Office so much more. Jim Parsons is amazing at what he does and we all love Sheldon and his quirky-ness but Michael Scott is the best. We laughed with Michael, laughed at Michael, enjoyed his home movies, cried with him, watched him fall in love again and again until he finally found the one. We watched him propose and we watched him leave the most amazing show ever. His character was so amazing that many watchers won't even watch the seasons that he isn't apart of. I guess both shows just target different audiences. No need to hate on either show though just because you have a different taste in comedy.

Actually, check that--"Arrested Development" was probably the greatest comedy to come out this millennium, with "The Office" a close second or tied, but unfortunately AD was only around for 3 years (four if you count the Netflix season) whereas "The Office" had a much longer run while rarely missing a beat.
And the dumbing down of America continues with Sheldon Cooper even mentioned in the same breath as Michael Scott. BBT is so unbelievably unfunny that I cringe whenever I hear it mentioned, and I do not and will not ever understand how Jim Parson wins awards for Best Actor in a comedy. Sheldon redefined a lot of stereotypes for us nerds. He made it ok for a lot of kids out there to be the way they are. Jackasses who mock you because you are a nerd, because you use Linux and read Stephen Hawking. Michael is a character who is copied from another show.

Sheldon is so one dimensional and has not developed at all over the course of the show, Steve Carrell brought so much depth and passion to one of the most annoying characters in the world. People have to realize that Jim Parsons is nothing like the character Sheldon Cooper-- and that makes him the more talented of the two and his show the better of the two. True, he is surrounded by some very funny people which helps the show be (for me at least) something I don't want to miss. I watched The Office once and turned it off before the end-- I didn't find it funny. I think some of the people who wrote here don't realize there is NO laugh track. The show for the most part is taped in front of a live audience (except for parts where it would be hard to do.) Sheldon is hilarious but also remember it's the writers putting those words into his month-- which makes it even more awesome that Parsons can remember all those tricky lines. ( I wonder how many of the people who find the show so bad are subconsciously homophobic which may influence their comments? Of course, they will deny this...)

Sheldon is one of the most creative characters I have seen on T.V. My husband and I have watched Big Bang since the first episode and buy each season on DVD once it becomes available. We also buy the season DVDs and give them to family and friends for Christmas. All of the characters on this show fit perfectly with the others. I couldn't imagine the show without any of the characters. We even nicknamed our computer "Sheldon".
