I would be interested to know why some of the "No" votes were cast. I wonder if they were not from the majority who see no prejudice or have never felt under-represented and/or shut out? From my experience, such a committee might be able to represent the unheard voices: the disabled Of which I am one - and I can never find disabled parking in Edmonds), LGBT folks... as well as the more "obvious" racial minorities, immigrants, etc. It is easy to think there are no issues, no problems, if you are unaware of them; others have very different experience.
