I think U2 should wait till mid 2009 to bring out this new fantastic material.
There has been alot going on this year between re-releasing Boy,War and October and with some of the new material being leaked on the net.
I think the re-release of the 1st three albums created a bit of an anti climax amongst Real Fans.There was no need for 4 versions of New Years Day.
There is nothing as great as an original tune but I have to say there is 1 very good remix that I was really impressed with.Anyway,U2 will release their new album whenever they are ready.I say all good things are worth waiting for.!!

i still think the album will come out mid november. with the us tour starting in march. im also thinking that they will play the first single from the album at the mtv awards in liverpool in december. u2 like to play live in europe in the summer. and a late release in early 2008 would delay tour plans. i think they are staying in the studio to learn how to play the new songs live.

They mentioned in U2.com;
"the band have written ‘fifty or sixty’ tracks. And counting."
They also mentioned;
"So the writing and recording continues and while they now know what shape most of the album will take, they're not leaving the studio just yet."
In my opinion, wouldn't it be great if they came out with a double cd? It would be worth the wait. And if they don't, I bet it will still sound great!

After reading Bono and the Edge's comments this makes me nervous. I'm afraid they are going to take something that is supposedley really great and it is going to come out like HTDAAB. They may overly tinker with it and then any of the spontaneity will be gone. There was all that hype while they were recording and they released it and it came out as almost half baked...with the exception of "Miracle Drug", "City of Blinding Lights", and "Vertigo" before it was called "Vertigo". That is just my not so humble opinion.
Then again, they probably shouldn't rush it if it isn't done :)

with all this teasing going on by U2 about there new album, wouldn't it be a cracker if they released it xmas day or new years eve. Now that would be a great way to kick off the new year:)
