I picked kara's dress. I found that she was very unique in what she turned the dress into. I loved the front panel she sewed on that could also have been used back facing as well. Kara impressed me the most this week, can't wait to see next weeks.

    Hi Ladies,
I left this in response to the tent comment on the blog post, but thought I would share it here as well:

    Stephanie,
You’re totally right. I’m so sorry it came across that way. I had no intention of it being offensive, but I get where you are coming from. It was actually the ruffle (which most circus tents have around the top) and the triangular shape that that made me compare it to a circus tent, not the size itself.
I’ll email Beth right now and have her edit that first sentence for me so that no one else feels the way I made you feel when you read it.
I think all women are sensitive about how they look in one form or another. I was freakishly skinny in the seventh grade with a huge nose and I was bullied by some of the prettier, cuter girls in school. To this day, I’m still sensitive about my nose. I rarely post profile shots because of it, and I’ve even had people leave rude comments about it on my blog. My feelings would totally be hurt if someone ever said something hurtful about it’s size. I don’t ever want to make anyone feel that way. I’m grateful that you spoke up for yourself, so I have a chance to fix it.
    Sincerely sorry again,
    Kara

Thank you so much Stephanie J, Paula Peichel, Meribeth Merton and Rita and Marie! Wow! It means so much to me. I don't know if you'll see my comment but I just wanted you ladies to know that your comments have helped me so much at this time of insecurity and doubt. I wish I wasn't so rushed and remembered to take pictures of the back! And yes, I took of the buttons. I'll try to write some dyeing tips on my blog post and link it in the next week's challenge post! Thank you so much once again!

I loved Sarah's red dyed dress! It fits her so well and the stitching looks perfect! Would have loved to have seen the back. Did she eliminate the buttons? Enjoy seeing all the creations every week!

    Very creative!

I know Kara personally and she is the sweetest, most genuine and kind person. I can definitely see why you ladies were offended by the circus tent comment, but knowing her, I know she meant the circus tent because of the triangle shape and the ruffles, like she says she did. She would never ever make fun of women with beautiful curves, not in private, and not in public. I feel this was a misunderstanding and a poor choice of words on Kara's part, but she had no intention on making fun of its size. I just want people to know that. :)

There are some very nice re-fashions here. However, the "circus tent" comment is downright cruel and totally unnecessary. Not everyone has the slim physique that Kara has. That dress was probably homemade because the prior owner had trouble finding nice clothes in her size so she made it herself. Shame on her. I am just as disappointed that the comment was allowed to remain there for publishing the post.

I also found the "circus tent" comment offensive. I imagine the original dress looked quite nice on the lady that wore it, whether she made it herself or had it made. I personally didn't find the refashion struck me as much as some of the others. Perhaps the comment skewed my reaction. I loved the restyled suit and the couch cover was my favorite - but I'm a sucker for anything lacey!

Ok I think all of the ideas are creative but from a blog standpoint I wonder if anybody else felt put off but the dress being a circus tent comment. There are larger ladies out there that require larger clothes and I don't see how a comment like that can help women like myself to feel good about ourselves. Maybe I am sensitive that it is difficult to find nice looking clothes that don't look like a moomoo or like they came from the tarp and tent store but I was just wondering if anyone else found it offensive.

Although she may have misunderstood (I would have too) I think Sarah made the most out of an outdated, ready-for-the-ragbag, shrunken suit. I never would have considered dying it and that made all the difference! Now she has an outfit that anyone could wear, a true classic.

Hi Guys, Looks like there is a little confusion, but Sarah is the contestant that made the red dress with the dye. I hope you voted for the right person.

I had to go with Laura because the thing she made over looked like JUNK that should have hit the trashcan! I still cannot believe that she turned that mess (and her cute perplexed face) into something so smashing!!!

How am I to choose?? There are so many great and creative refashions this week.

  • Paula Peichel - 9 years ago

Wow! Wonderful creativity on everyone's part. My favorite was Laura's because I thought it was the look I would want to wear most. I would like to know what her dying process was because the fabric was so evenly dyed. I would also like to know how she took the bottom part of the jacket and attached it to the dress. Such a stunning design! I also really liked Gemma's slipcover design which transformed into a very pretty dress.

  • Karen - 9 years ago

Everyone is so creative!!! This is inspiring me to sew again!! Thanks :)

  • Stephanie J - 9 years ago

I voted for Laura's because she changed the color and the design of the original and it would something I would wear. Although, Gemma's creation from the slipcover was awesome!

  • sandra - 9 years ago

This was a tough decision and a close call, for me. To break a 3-way-tie, I asked myself "which would I wear?", and I voted for Gema's maxi dress from the slipcover.

  • Rae - 9 years ago

This was a toughie! My final vote was swung by fit and creativity. While I loved almost every creation, I had to go with Refash Stash because she used pieces of clothing which I find takes more imagination than a flat piece of fabric or simply refitting a garment with extra bits added! Well done ladies!
