Is Sudbury too "car-centric"?

I moved here recently as well and it was shocking. No regard for crosswalks whatsoever! What a cop out from police. Enforce the crosswalks and red lights!

On April 1, 2013, I had only been living in Sudbury for a month and I was hit by a car while walking home. It was at an intersection with stop signs. I waited for the car to stop, then started to cross. When I was halfway across, the car went through. I got struck in the hip and rolled up onto the hood. The driver hit the breaks and I was going off her hood into the street and was knocked out. When the police took my statement at the hospital, they tried to point the blame at me because witnesses claim I was on my phone. 1) No I wasn't. 2) Even if I was, it doesn't change the fact that the driver went through the stop sign when I was halfway across. 3) There were no witnesses. It seemed like they just wanted the whole episode to be over. They said I couldn't press charges unless I had permanent and/or lasting injury for more than 6 months. In Sudbury, it's not "Pedestrians have the right of way." Instead it's "Drivers have the right of way and pedestrians better watch out."
