What do you think of the driver's refusal to drive the Pride bus?

I support this man's right to speak out pro-actively against an activity which is going to be an indecent affair on the streets of Calgary. What city, in its right mind, encourages a parade where they know there will be indecent behaviour, nudity, and a display of sodomites from your community? We know that this lifestyle is unhealthy, leads to early death, and tends to target youth who are vulnerable as they enter maturity. There are a lot more questions than answers when you let PRIDE enter your community.

    All,
I find it curious that anyone not agreeing with the LBGTPGA, or what ever they are now calling themselves, is instantly a " Homophobic Degenerate ".
Why do we need rainbow flags, rainbow buses, rainbow crosswalks etc., all paid for with tax dollars?
Why do we need gay pornographic inmages and literature in our schools, and in our sexual educational programs for our children?
As a single Father of three boys, I do not support these things, but people are allowed to make thier own choices in thier lifestyles, and that is thier legal right and priveledge.
That is, until one forces those beliefs on the rest of us......

Hypocrisy at its finest. How many times has he driven the bus with a divorce lawyers ad on the side? Did he speak up then? He's a Christian isn't he? Or refused to work on a Sunday? Or why have we never heard of a jewish driver refusing to drive with a bacon add on the side? This is just so stupid. Do your job or find a new one.

    emotions, emotions, emotions.
the pro-lgbt side is exposing how emotionally run their side is.
we pro-family people must start learning how to logically defend and how to answer in charity our concern, and that we do not 'hate' gay people, but infact love them and care for their longterm happiness.

Am I missing something here? Are gay rights still that far behind the times? I can't think of the last time a gay person has been persecuted more than other singular circumstances involving minorities. I've been persecuted (made fun of) for premature balding. Where is my cross walk and bus? What about women who are victims of domestic violence, which is surely a more immediate and pressing cause to get behind. Or children being trafficked into the sex trade. Where is their bus and cross walk. For that matter, where is a parade that celebrates the innocence of children, that globally are being exploited far more in numbers than gay people are. I look around and all I see is anger towards an enemy that doesn't seem to exist. Where are all these people that supposedly so vocally hate gays and are suppressing their rights? If someone has a different sexual practice, let them practice it in privacy. The same as everyone else in society. Why does the city of Calgary seem to single out this particular segment and give them a cross walk and bus to advertise their cause? The city shouldn't show partiality to a single cause. By entering the ring of supporting certain minority groups, they have polarized other groups that don't get the same treatment. Calgary; either support ALL groups or NO groups. Very disappointed that this particular bus driver has to even contemplate this potential choice. Nobody should have to drive around a giant billboard for a cause they don't believe in. Frankly I don't see the need to advertise for a cause where the only differentiating point is the sex of the person you want to sleep with.

To all those who think this f*ing idiot is right, he CHOSE to go to the media. He was NEVER asked to drive the Pride bus and, when interviewed by 770am radio, transit managers said anyone can be moved to another bus route of they ask. Instead, this dimlight decided to take his homophobic comments (and yes, they're not just simply comments supporting his Christian values) public via the media.

When 770 asked him if he would have a problem with giving rides/fares to gay people on a bus that didn't have Pride painted on it, he said "no" he would have no problem with that.

He obviously doesn't understand what even he himself stands for!

(To those of you quoting a book that has SO many inaccuracies and ridiculous stories written 300+ years after some guy in white robes said or didn't say, NOW YOU KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE PERSECUTED IN MODERN TIMES!! IF YOU TRULY BELIEVE IN THAT BOOK, YOU WILL BE JUDGED BY YOUR GODS!)

Using the excuse of your religion is pathetic. You are unfit for your position if you are unable to fulfil your duties, and should be reviewed for termination if you're going to act like some superstar d!ckhead by not only refusing one of your duties, but on such a hate filled message. It's really sad to see people go on about how great they are because they're a christian, but end up being very terrible people to their fellow man under the basis of their beliefs. Islamic & judaism faith holders included, you're worse sometimes, going further than oppression.

I suspect he's grandstanding. Seems he went public without first talking to CTS. Sooo many buses, only 1, Rainbow bus. What are the odds they wouldn't have accommodated him if given a chance to be sensitive to his beliefs.

He perhaps should have gone to management. But I think the result would have been the same A public issue. I would not ride in that bus for the same reason. Discrimination works both ways. If he is discriminating against they are doing the same to him. I thought they wanted equality. That is not equality.

Simple case of refusing work...send him home

I am 100% in favor of the driver standing up for what he believes in. Shame on the city for trying to blackball him.

Just wondering why straight people don't have the same f"freedom of speech" as gay people?

  • al - 9 years ago

Typical of this city administration, they choose which rights they are going to protect and which they are going to ignore according to the flavour of the month.

This city spews about protecting peoples' rights until it comes to something controversial, or until it involves a city employee at which time the city administrators make it abundantly clear that city employees have NO RIGHTS what-so-ever, religious, moral, personal or otherwise. This administration is becoming a huge joke and embarasment with their two faced BS.

They have a sign on a bus supporting gays. Have they had a sign on a bus promoting straight people. We have to move over for all minorities,to the point it infringes on our space. Goodness be gay already,it's not news anymore, leave the rest of the world alone.

If the "Drive with Pride" bus refers to Gay Pride or alternate lifestyles, the other 97 or 98% of the population should have equal representation. One Pride bus and 49 Heterosexual buses. Pride activities are simply a minority using their 'rights' as a battering ram, keeping governments at all levels on edge. Equal time - for all lifestyles would make this minority issue disappear like a wisp of smoke.

Its about time that people stop making a big deal about these issues. It is in the bible that God does like these practices.1 Corinthians 6:9. Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals,[a] nor sodomites.
Everybody has the right to hold unto any believes they want to, without being called hatful. Jesus loves us all but he does not like our sinful practices, and He still cares for us. If we choose to belief we should love one another, not steal as the bible says. Then he is actiing within his religious freedon rights. Kudos to my brother, for standing in his truth, a lot of people would not do that. Thank you.
