What about no hot Gil/Marty action, in terms of their having a scene (or at least a panel) discussing how Holly has parachuted back into their lives, and which was the better man for her before she left?
And so Holly's new home will be directing Backyard Tire Fire music videos?

All of the above! (I hadn't even thought of defending the championship, but if this strip had any real continuity, that would have been a major plot point for the fall. Oh well.)
