We have already been paying as part of our tax for road maintainence in the state for years. Where is the money going..? I think line by line audit for every dime needs to be done, and if issues found criminal charges implemented.

When in doubt, tax. Way to go CT.

This state leadership has no concept how to RESPONSIBLY manage, account, or implement a $100 billion dollar infrastructure project. The Governor's claim that it is "going to fall down" demonstrates his lack of understanding and is a fear tactic that he has no business using. We have been subjected to countless spending projects that have gone incredibly wrong in this state, especially as of late. The DMV upgrade is one most of us has been forced to deal with. Over $25 million spent on a totally botched system that still is not working correctly. Accountability to this failed project has been without person or department, yet we tax payers and business suffer every day. I can only imagine how much would be wasted and lost under a $100 billion, that's with a B, construction spending plan. In addition, to say that the majority of it would be funded with additional taxes....... Before any spending of that magnitude be discussed in this state, a total overhaul of our current fiscal budget must be made. When we as tax payers look to our own finances or budgets and see that we are spending more then we take in, we can't just spend more. Our state leaders and most importantly, the governor owe that to the tax payers of CT.

Tax, Tax, Tax, Tax...don't we have enough that we can't afford? Leave well enough ALONE.

Seems everyone has forgotten the casinos and what they pay EVERYDAY to CT. 25% on the slot take every single day. Do the math, where is that money going? I seem to recall it was to be used for road upkeep, really. The people need an accounting of what these monies are being used for.

I don't understand why the news isn't reporting the outrage from the people. I am truly disgusted. I've actually tried to contact Malloy or his office but of course they couldn't be bothered by just a "normal middle class" citizen of CT. I can't afford to pay out another dime. We live day to day, paycheck to paycheck. What are the good hard working people supposed to do? How are we supposed to give more? How does this keep happening and nothing is being done about it. You can not take anymore from the people of CT. When is it supposed to stop. The minute I can leave this state I'm running out of here. Its a shame because I really loved CT. Malloy is a joke and a liar. He stated that the people of CT won't mind paying for his transportation plan. Funny... he never asked my family if we minded. Wake up Malloy we ALL mind. We don't have anymore to give!!!!

It seems nobody remembers that when the tolls were removed our license and registration fees were doubled to make up the loss.

The State of Connecticut is a disgusting joke!! One of the wealthiest states in this country at the cost of taxing the middle class to death. Shameful.

  • Jay - 3 years ago

There should be another option on the poll. "use the money already generated from some of the highest taxes in the nation, cut the spending, and pay for it that way". This is ridiculous. How much more can we pay? If you include all the federal, state, and small misc. taxes we are "used" to, it adds up to an average of 43%. That's disgusting.

Malloy ran Stamford into the ground yet people voted him in again. We had tolls, traffic congestion & I'm not a fan of breathing in diesal. Isn't it amazing that the only time we see any work getting done is when it's voting time and they manage to misteriously find the money. The gas tax is high enough. When I84 got widened it was 10 years behind the time. Time to move out of CT! I think the "vote" at the top of this page should have "other"

Time to legalize marijuana. You wont need tolls, higher gas tax.

This state is broken and there is probably no fixing it. The DEEP is a huge offender, trampling on land owners rights and barring residents from public land in the name of the the greater good(liberal agenda). Dot workers for the most part are decent hard working folks that are miss managed and work at a union prescribed pace that would bankrupt any private business. Back to DEEP, why do we need so many Game Wardens( I see them everywhere and mostly doing nothing ) they do more driving around than game protection. I worked on the river for a few months last year, there were a couple boats out everyday that for lack of a better term were joy riding just enjoying the weather. Probably leaving Ct is going to be a reality for my wife and I, we certainly won't be able to retire here. I will miss the Ct River Valley, but not the taxes !

What about Fairfield county traffic the one lane in Norwalk was to little to late for our daily traffic and now he sugest tolls

  • Mike Beler - 3 years ago

CT ranks as one of largest population declining states in the nation and the biggest reason is the affordablility! And now the governor wants to add both taxes and tolls to an already untenable situation. The same governor that prior to his re-election told us about the budget surplus the state had, that quickly turned into a significant deficit immediately following the election! We allow these politicians to continually lie and not be held accountable for those lies! You can not impose new taxes until there's an HONEST evaluation of each and every government system, process and department!! Impossible you say. Think about this would we have allowed the UPGRADE to the DMV's computer system if we knew the level of incompetence that would be the result.

How about cutting out the pork and reducing the state employees salaries and overall workforce.

  • D. HENRIQUEZ - 3 years ago

IF YOU'RE GOING TO INCREASE TAXES FOR TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENTS... THEN CT SHOULD REDUCE PROPERTY TAXES AND CAR TAXES. WE'RE ONE OF THE FEW STATES THAT HAVE PROPERTY TAXES ON AUTOMOBILES TWICE A YEAR. WHICH IS REDICILOUS.

IF WE ARE BEING TAX ON AUTOS USE THIS MONEY FOR BRIDGES AND ROADS. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I DON'T THINK WE NEED TOLLS IN CONNECTICUT THAT WOULD ONLY CREATE UNNECESSARY TRAFFIC JAMS.

IF TAXES IN CT CONTINUE TO GO UP, YOU'RE GOING TO SEE MORE PEOPLE AND CORPORATIONS MOVING OUT OF OUR STATE.

    STOP MISMANAGING OUR TAX $$$$$$$$$$$

Vote Melloy out of office. He wants to TAX everything. The next thing he will want to tax is the air we breathe. He doesn't care about taxing the gas because he doesn't pay for it because he is driven around in a car that WE pay for and he wonders why companies and people are moving out of Connecticut. I use to work for Bayer and they were smart and left the state 8 years ago. This state is known as "THE TAX YOU TO DEATH STATE". I am putting my house on the market and MOVING.

  • MICHAEL O'MARA - 3 years ago

The best thing that could happen to Connecticut is for Malloy (the Obama wanna be) to move to Kenya tonight. The next best would be for all the socialist democrats to move to Syria. We then need to eliminate 2 of every 3 politicians in state government and apply that money to try to lessen the damages all the politicians created for us. In addition I have a very serious concern about this Transportation Panel. When the tolls were closing the last time I had to do a study for my job on their effects on the economy of Connecticut. It became crystal clear that beside costing many lives each year in accident deaths the tolls were also causing deaths from polution and in many other ways. Ignoring this aspect it was also very obvious that the tolls were costing Connecticut a great deal in lost revenue to Connecticut business and lost tax revenues in the form of road use taxes and fuel permits that truckers who cross the state are extorted to pay. Rather than go direct from Boston to New york, the fastestest and most direct route, the majority of drivers and companies redirected around Connecticut to avoid the expenses caused by the tolls. To make a long story short I was able to show my boss back in the 70s a 4 million dollar plus increase in revenue for our business by eliminating the tolls. Multiply that throughout the state and then adjust for todays prices and you will get an idea of the losses the new tolls will bring us. Please also keep in mind that at no time did the toll supporters of the time claim the tolls were self supporting. They were in fact subsidized by other state revenues. In closing, I suspect the Transportation Panel is one of three things. Criminally stupid, Unbelievably stupid or made up of the same or very similar liars as the previous governor used to try to foist the highway "improvements" on us for the New Haven Welfare Mall Project. That was such a farce that once the stturing and stammering died down it was replaced by total embarressment and quiet death of the scam. It was a governor's transportation panel that supported that wonderful plan as well as this new one. Isn't Malloy loosing enough tax payers from Connecticut yet?

  • Mike Smith - 3 years ago

This is enough. Who voted for Malloy? If you did I hope you realize that he is going to run this state in to the ground . If your smart its time to move to another state !!!

  • Ken Scofield - 3 years ago

Time to move out of ct

  • Janet - 3 years ago

Funny people on social security didn't get a cost of living adjustment. Can't figure how they are going to eat, pay utilities, medical costs etc but are going to pay more in state taxes?

  • brian - 3 years ago

Cut the politicians pay, cut back on their benefits. Make them live like they suggest we do. Change from salary to hourly pay for them.
