To be honest, I was kind of really disappointed with this. Voted on 2 stars based on the included comment. Though to be fair, I didn't quite know what to expect out of "Grimoire" to begin with but whatever it was, I was expecting it to be better than what was given.
I guess my main issue is that this felt way too rushed. It's 29 minutes long, a little over a regular episode's length, but there was way too much going on. Events just happened one after another in quick succession with barely any context going into and out of each one. Also makes any kind of actual development that did happen, feel way too sudden. Alicia alone had her clothing ripped and fixed several times over in this episode. Felt like there was 2 or 3 episodes worth of material all jammed in here.
The cameos, while nice as a fan of the series and its characters, served little to no purpose. It was like, here's a character, they quickly do something or get mentioned, and then they are gone. No word on why or how they got there. Or even what happened to them afterwords.
Honestly, I feel like this needed a lot more time to be worked on, or at the very least have been better paced. If I remember correctly, this is only going to get 2 OVA episodes, and based on this, having 1 more OVA episode isn't going to be anywhere near enough to be satisfying. I'd have rather they had spread out the budget for more episodes for everything to be better paced and fleshed out in exchange for taking a slight downgrade in art and animation, which was rather inconsistent regardless (the designs, the faces of the characters in particular, kept changing between something along the lines of the regular "QB" style and Satoshi Urushihara's style for example) which was really jarring.
The only really positive thing I can say that the Wonderland world created is wonderfully disturbing and strange. The singing flowers that kept popping up in particular were a nice, if not odd, touch. That's about it for me.
