What do you think of Calgary police’s photo radar system?

This is not new. In 2014, our house was broken in.

The police officer assigned to this case gave me his card, with his e-mail address.
I sent him nine (9) e-mail messages and left him at least 3 voice-mail messages to follow up on this incident.

    None were returned. NONE.

I suspect this officer was dutifully working on his radar trap assignments.
The priority is set from the top. Revenue stream ahead of fighting crime.

I agree with the cams out. Driving from out of the city obeying speed limits often wonder when a driver pushes out to pass in 50 KM zone. Hey if they speed they can afford the ticket and wish there was more cams or police catching the speeders. #dangerous unnecessary driving!

If you obey the speed limit your fine. But don't you dare go over or god forbid give a lil gas so you make it through the light that just changed as your at the intersection FLASH FLASH !
Better one yet saw a photo radar set up in a construction zone with no operator in it just the car and camera sitting in the ditch just waiting for speeders ... It flashed on the veh ahead of me I could not believe there wasn't a officer in the car mind you it was 3am but still. What a trap they are so sneeky now ! Hiding everywhere! Bottom line don't speed. Just wished they would focus more on the distracted driving nothing frosts my but more than someone speeding driving all over the road while texting!!! Grrrrr !

Photo Radar is definitely a speed deterrent. You get that ticket in the mail (especially speed on green) and start to pay attention to the posted rates.

Where was the audit of this practice in your story? What has it accomplished for traffic safety? Definition of insanity?

I think more are needed, especially on residential streets where there are parks and schools. I have multiple speeders on my street and when I can get plate numbers and vehicle makes I do e mail them to the police but I can't get all plates all the time and the police can't sit on my street all the time either. A photo radar on my street would be useful and nab more speeders. Those that are saying it is a cash grab are likely the idiots that can't adhere to the speed limits and get caught.

It costs money to run the police service. This is one way they can recoup some of their costs.
The other choice is to raise taxes.

If people in Calgary would stop driving with a "I am the only one on the road that matters" attitude, then it would be a cash grab.... If I always have to be in front, then all the power to the Law Enforcement tools that are used.

No way this is anything but a cash grab. Mail me a ticket a month later? I barely even remember driving the road you ticket me on. Deterrent my a$$
