What is your favourite international Olympic table tennis moment?
China’s Deng Yaping dominates the competition at Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996, winning back-to-back gold medals in each of the women’s singles and doubles events, ending her career with four Olympic gold medals and being voted Chinese female athlete of the century.
China’s Lu Lin and Wang Tao win men’s doubles gold at Barcelona 1992 after almost missing the final when the shuttle bus to the venue didn’t arrive. They initially ran before hailing a taxi, going on to beat Germany’s Steffen Fetzner and Jörg Rosskopf.
Jan-Ove Waldner of Sweden wins the men's singles title at Barcelona 1992, making him the first non-Asian player to ever win Olympic gold in table tennis.
China misses the podium for the only time in Olympic table tennis in the men’s singles event at Seoul 1988 when the five top seeds all lost prior to the semifinals, leaving two South Koreans to play for gold at their home Games.
