My granddaughter had two ticks on her in the last few weeks and prior to this year I have never seen any ticks in my yard !!

Ticks seem to be abundant. Deer should not bear the blame of being the only carriers of the black-legged tick - which transmit Lyme Disease. In the nymph phase, rodents seem to be the chosen host of these ticks. It is important for the public to be educated about the fact that foxes and coyotes play an important role in curbing the tick population because they are voracious consumers of rodents. One coyote can eat up to 1,400 rodents per year (mice, rats, squirrels, chipmunks.). Opposums, too, attract ticks but are fastidious groomers and will consume huge quantities of them.
Instead of wreaking havoc on certain wildlife species because some perceive them as "pests" or otherwise objectionable, our view of wildlife requires a paradigm shift: we need to appreciate them for their vital contribution to a healthy ecosystem which humans are also part of. It is incumbent upon the DEC and health agencies to properly educate the public about wildlife's role in curbing the tick population.

I would love to finally see something done about the ticks we have in Dutchess County, we are the worst in NYS. I can not tell you how many times my Dr has put me on Doxy. One of my kids had to goto Westcherster to have IV drips, to help her with her Lyme. We live in a residential neighborhood, Pine Ridge Dr off Noxon Rd I really hope NYS wakes up and resolves this problem we have in Dutchess County. Thank you G.N.

Malone Road & Fox Run in Pleasant Valley is loaded with ticks . While just walking on the road I moved to the side for a car and ended up with six on my clothing. I had assumed I would be safe on the road... big mistake.
