If we as a Nation wants to carry on to expand and improve our economy, then yes we do need more living space. As for Helen`s comment why we need high rise building is actually that Malta is too small and as the majority does not want any more buildings, then the only option left is either of two simple choices, either we go vertical or start immediately the reclamation process. We can be larger in size and better than we are. !

I cannot support the initiative for high rise in Malta because 1) we do not need more living space - we have many empty dwellings already so this move towards high rise is just speculation on the part of local and foreign developers 2) In Sicily, Italy, Spain, North Africa (our nearest neighbours) low rise and traditional buildings are the norm - so why should Malta emulate Hong Kong and Dubai - apart from the fact that Malta is a tiny island, high rise does not fit with our culture. We should look at places like Positano - not a high rise is sight, or the Ile de Re (off La Rochelle) - ditto In parts of Spain the ugly 60s developments have been demolished. High rise will make our small island "top heavy" - on can see the whole lot collapsing into the sea. let's stop pretending we are a big country. We are small and good as we are. Comments please?
