There are many benefits to consolidation , 500 School Districts is a waste of tax dollars . Imagine the savings of county wide districts, the reduction of Administrators, Economy of Scale economic benefits , a more equitable balance between school tax base and funding, 1 BOE , 1 Teacher Contract , less legal fees ,to name some . Students would have access to a larger course of studies, magnet schools, and even a county wide programs to insure safe schools where those who fight, bully, bring weapons do not bring down so many schools . There are many benefits to consolidation if it saves the taxpayers money and is able to develop a better education system , our elected officials, and School districts BOE must put aside their self interests for the good of us all.

Many states have county wide districts with only one superintendent and staff for the entire county. Schools can be in specific enrollment zones with transportation provided. However, open enrollment could be made available outside one's zone if the parent/guardian takes the responsibility to transport the student. Enrollment deadlines would need to be strictly enforced so that each school could handle its staffing responsibilities. State laws need to be modified for the removal of continually disruptive pupils from any building in the county.

Consolidation of school districts should have happened years ago in this state. The savings of administrative costs alone would reap millions in savings for the taxpayer. There are so many smaller districts in our area alone that could join with the larger districts. Merging only seems to make sense following along the lines of Allen/Deiruff, you could make Emmaus/Salisbury, Whitehall/Catasauqua, and I'm sure there are quite a few more. Allow the newly formed districts to have separate schools like they have now and there would be no loss in teachers across the board, only administration which seems to gobble up a whole lot of tax money. Cut down on the redundancy and cost savings will follow.
