Removing Dr. Scott was a terrible idea. I never watched another episode.

I was hooked to season 1 and 2 of the last ship.....that is until they made the most stupid decision i'very ever seen in a TV show!!!! Killing Rachel Scott of the series just made wonder why the hell i waneed to continue watching the last ship without the most influential character Rachel Scott.... Even my admiration for Eric Dane's Character Cpt. Chandler can'take make me continue the series.. Better of watching Game of Thrones!!!!!!!

Agree with everyone but Pete, who looks to the big picture but doesn't understand the nature of these shows. It looks like "Ship" will get progressively worse.
BTW: the overall story: find cure/defeat hostiles and evildoers/protect cure/defeat ditto/administer cure/defeat ditto. That's the entire story. The part that counts is the nature of the characters, their relationships & the quality of the acting. Scott as played by Rhona Mitra was aces in all the areas that count.

Killing off Rachel ruined this show for me. I also binged watched Seasons 1-2. Bit with Dr. Scott gone, I just don't care anymore.

  • Art - 7 years ago

My understanding is that the decision by the writers to have the captain punish Dr. Scott received so much negative pushback, the writers and producers could not come up with a way to resolve it. Their best alternative they felt was to remove her from the equation so the show could focus on other things. As you see from the comments, that was not a good choice.

Why a phenomonal show like The Last Ship take such a devastatingly STUPID decision as to sack Rhona Mitra is just beyond me. Personally, I have a feeling a certain someone's ego was bruised by here popularity.

Just bought DVD seasons 1-3. Read article and will not continue to watch series. Bad decision.

  • Shane - 7 years ago

Not happy they killed her off the ratings are going to drop they should find a way to bring her back for sure I love the show but come on people

  • doreenmh - 7 years ago

Should not have gotten rid of Dr. Scott. I no longer watch the show. It was the chemistry that kept me coming back. Epic bad decision.

  • Maria Birnbaum - 7 years ago

I was really hoping they would bring her back at some point but hearing that they really killed her off is so disappointing! She and Tom had amazing chemistry and I really don't like his new love interest. Big mistake, wish it could be undone!!

  • John - 7 years ago

Big Mistake killing off the Dr. Perfect foil character balancing out the Captain's personality. Removing her character guts the show's chemistry. Had I known Dr. was not coming back for season 3, I would have not purchased the entire third season on iTunes.

Since the incredibly inane decision to remove rachel scott from the series the show lacks base, the series was built around rachel and her passion to find a cure, everything revolved around her and that, so what did u think would happen, did u think its watchers would say oh well she's gone what's next, was never goin to happen. Too many times shows have removed such vital players in shows and expect it for reasons beyond me to be just as good, but so often causes the series to crash and its viewers to desert a once loved show, u would have thought writers would have picked that up by now.
So once again one of the last ship main characters and loved by do many has been wiped out. I tried really hard to watch this show with life without rachel and kept an open mind, but I made 5 episodes and said that's enough, the show lacks base and interest, its missin an ingredient for it to continue to be great and that ingredient is rachel scott, for those reasons I'm out.
Well done to the writers for episode 1 and 2.
Maybe one day writers will learn that these actions do not only cause the destruction of the character but also of the show.
Time to move on to a different show for me, goodbye the last ship.

I agee with the comments made on the Rachel-topic. I think a lot of people watched this show because of the chemistry between characters. This was why the Tom and Rachel thing was so interesting.
    Too bad..

  • Natay - 7 years ago

Doctor Scott is gone...theres nothing left to watch. The way she died was anticlimactic and random. I'm annoyed that a perfectly good series was ruined so quickly.

  • Jake - 8 years ago

    Rhona Mitra WAS the show

  • Tara - 8 years ago

I've been hanging on waiting for a glimmer of hope. Sadly I'm out. My husband and I really enjoyed this show and we loved Bridget in Legend of The Seeker but you guys dropped the ball letting Rhona go from the series. It's just lacking in chemistry all around. Seriously what were you thinking? Its a shame the writers dont listen to the fans. It really had potential for a good series. Good luck but we are out.

I have no problem with killing off a major character. Done right, it can be really moving and a turning point in the larger story. That said, the good doctor could have been killed in a more meaningful, far less lazy manner.

What I really hate is the whole change in vibe with season 3. The first 2 seasons had true grit to it all. A dead seriousness in the spirit of Battlestar Galactica. Season 3 is a total departure from it all. At least the first 2 episodes. This feels like fluff military dramady down there with NCIS. I don't even mean the passable original NCIS, but the crappier spin-offs. It's all about the lame buzzwords and cheezy 1-liners now. Basically they took the diamond from Seasons 1 and 2 and dipped it deep in shit for season 3.

I was binge watching the first 2 seasons because they were so well executed. Now I hate myself for wasting time with the first 2 episodes of S3. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it gets good again, as I wade through this thick filth.

Horrible decision to kill off Dr. Scott. Rachel was the most interesting character in the show and Rhona Mitra did a great job playing her. It was absolutely unnecessary to kill her off and I think the producers did it without any market research feedback (i.e. using test audiences and see what their reaction was). Instead it was a juvenile thought that it would be "cool" because it happens on The Walking Dead all the time.

The "replacement" is ludicrous. She's some chick that use to smuggle stuff in China and now she's going on ops missions with Chandler? What special forces experience does she have? Absolutely none. There is no reason for her to go on these missions. In fact, she's a liability. At least when you sent Dr. Scott on a mission there was a valid reason for it.

Don't even get me started about the ludicrous decision to kill of the president. The writing is so moronic now you'd think it was taken over by the writers for the latest Wayward Pines season.

Bring Dr. Scott back. Figure out a way and do it.

Season one was pretty good, season two was great and I also loved the chemistry between the captain and Dr. Scott. I didn't think they would actually kill her off and I was really hoping that they wouldn't, and now that they have I just cannot bring myself to watch the show anymore. I am also a fan of The Walking Dead, so I'm cool with main characters getting killed but losing the beautiful Dr. Scott was too much for me. I'm out.

  • Kat - 8 years ago

I love the show.... but I have to agree with all of the above....Dr Scott and Chandler are the two characters I look forward to seeing the most in the show. It really sucks that she is gone and I can only hope you are listening and plan to bring her back. This new girl (possible love interest for Chandler) doesn't hold a candle to Dr. Scott. Please fix it! Soon!

Have to agree with H Potter - killing off Doctor Scott has greatly lessened the show. I, too, spent months anticipating the return of the show, only to be bitterly disappointed with the decision to kill off, arguably, the main character! Further the writers and produces spent two years setting up a romance between Scott and Chandler, only to kill her off before it comes to fruition? The replacement of the female lead with Bridget Regan is a lackluster attempt to give Chandler a foil to fight against. Sasha has none of Scott's intelligence, drive and dogged determination. The times you do see the two of them clash, she seems more like she's whining. And for them then to kill off both Val - who very quickly became a likable character - and Will Mason, who was the heart of the Nathan James, was inexcusable. I watched the first double episode, but am disappointed with the way the show is heading. The storyline is unbelievable and seems like just another way for America to 'flex it's muscles' against the rest of the world. Not sure I will continue watching, but can't see a season four happening. Not with this current storyline.

  • Pete - 8 years ago

It's an apocalyptic show, people die all the time, killing Rachel doesn't kill the show.. It progresses the story, and how everyone reacts.. Now killing Val made no sense, but Rachel it was legit and perfectly timed death,

  • Henry - 8 years ago

Killing Rachel, killed the show. Now you should rename the show to the last season, i dont think you are getting a chance for a season 4, season 3 episode 1 was boring as hell.

  • h potter - 8 years ago

Killing off Rachel has ruined the show for me. There were two aspects of the Last Ship that made it must watch for me. First the relationship between Rachel and Chandler growing, possibly into a romance, but definitely into a respectful alliance to heal the world. The second aspect was our kick butt Nathan James crew firing the big guns every week. Without BOTH the show is meh.
The changes in the cast are not doing you any favors either. You have added Sasha who doesn't appeal, and now have killed off the 2 most interesting women not crew members of NJ, VAL AND RACHEL. None of the cast have any real super skills to add to the mix. (Rachel brilliant doctor and Val super hacker and communications whiz) Basically you just turned this into a boring navy show.
One other issue the XO / CO is too excitable. Screaming at his captors is not the action of a Command officer. His acting stunk and every yell was inviting a not very flattering comparison to Chandler. He did not measure up.

I voted fail because 90% of the show was scenes we had already seen. Before the first commercial break it was new material, but after was only material from a previous episode. Or did my cable company screw up?

  • Christie Rayburn - 8 years ago

Killing off Dr. Scott was a big mistake! Huge mistake! Need to bring her back!

  • Big Ben - 8 years ago

Killing off Dr Scott was a huge mistake indeed. While I will probably continue watching it I am very much less enthusiastic about it without her.

  • Mark - 8 years ago

Killing off Doctor Scott was a bad idea! Her character as portrayed by Rhona Mitra was a major piece of the story! She was a sort of a yang to Chandler's yin. There is an emptiness without her character. I am less enthusiastic about this show and not sure I will continue to watch.

  • Jackie - 8 years ago

Killing off Dr. Scott was a huge mistake. There are so many ways they could have played this and kept her involved. Many viewers will be lost. Tom and her made a great couple, played well off each other. What a shame that the powers that be didn't pay attention to the feedback from their fans. This new female lead is greatly lacking in my opinion. I am very angry with the changes made. I looked forward to this show for 9 months only to be greatly disappointed and now feel I have lost a really great show based on a stupid decision. The only way to make this better is to take the outrage of the fans seriously and put her back in. Rework some of the episodes to include her. Shame the powers that be don't care.

  • Chris - 8 years ago

While I understand the story driven decision to kill Rachel, I don't think this was a good time for it. Putting her in a coma or something would have had the same effect and still allow a come back for a beloved and still developing character. At the end of S2, her and Tom were becoming closer to being more than friends. If a stronger relationship had developed, then it would give more impact to audience and Capt Chandler on a personal level.

In short it was too soon for her to irrecoverably leave the show.

  • Mary - 8 years ago

I agree. Killing off Dr. Scott was a mistake . I no longer will watch the show.

  • Shan - 8 years ago

I voted FAIL because I didn't like the Dr getting killed off. Also she and the captain had great chemistry. I dont like watching shows where the main characters keep getting killed off. I need more stability! ;)
But other than that it was a great show.
