They should have kept Mortell as he had more upside than Masthay plus Peter proved he could hold for Crosby. You figure the Packers would have learned their lesson after the last time they did something like this. Seems short sighted on the Packers part.

As long as Charlie brown's holder Sally isn't out there. He will be fine or he will start blaming the holder for his misses.
Why is Ty Mongomery a lock to make the team? They should waive or IR him and keep that geranimo allenson guy. He has diamond in the rough written all over him. That guy has the most talent of all the so called great wide outs. Especially with Nelson being a question mark.

Holding for Crosby is VERY important. You don't just come in and set the ball down. Crosby has said before that he likes the ball a certain way and is very picky.

Statistics don't lie! Masthay had better numbers overall and was also a great holder. Schum has been cut several times, if he was so good why was he let go by Cleveland and Tampa Bay? Should there be a poor hold or a missed extra point and/or field goal Ted Thompson must accept FULL responsibility!

A bit of a head scratcher. Masthey ended up near the middle again in stats compared to other punters and set a team record for net punt average last year. Not sure why Schum would be better. Ted T. most know something we don't. FYI Schum liked to tape himself punting and has posted several youtubes like this one

I won't question Ted Thompson because he knows what he's doing. Reading about Schum's credentials though, makes me wonder what he offers other than saving money with their contracts.

Mastay stunk. He was maybe the worst punter in football. When they needed a good punt. You could count on Him to shank one or under punt his coverage like in the Buffalo game. He was a good holder.
I thought Masthay had a lock on the job even though he sucked as a Punter. He's been a great Holder on FG's and PAT"s for Mason Crosby. Crosby was in a funk a few years ago and almost got cut.

It won't hurt us at all. He was getting worse the last 2 years in pressure situations. But letting Peter Mortell go was a huge mistake. I don't understand it! If you look at his bio you will see that he always wasn't that good at practice. But come game time when it matters he was real good. He can get you out of trouble when your backed up and he can put your opponents in trouble with his ability to drop the ball inside the 20. He has had a great preseason I think. Stats sure show it. Hang time is not that big a deal when it comes down to tenths of a second. That's only in drag racing. Anything over 4 seconds is good hang time. MM should get him back in a hurry if this dude doesn't do good this week.
