5 years too late...I feel sorry for the poor kids whose college careers were squandered by Les Miles. LSU gets some of the best talent in the nation by default and to have it wasted was tragic. I'm sure Miles is a good man but was way over his head in this type of program.

It was inevitable. Miles and the fans never recovered from the Olin Branstetter effect. So ironic that the plane crash that killed the Okla. State girls basketball coach so distracted OSU leading to their loss to Iowa State putting Bama into the Nat. Championship game. OSU's unintentional revenge on Miles for leaving OSU. I stop to step on a spider before crossing the street and the drunk driver doesn't run me down. I say, "it's just a spider and find myself six feet under. Miles is a good man who allowed the game to pass him by.

I really liked Les, Allva won't ever hire a big name coach that will be able to beat Alabama. That is all the money men want. They don't care about the players the money men and big wigs only care for one thing. God Bless Les Miles and his family and enjoy the 10 million , you earned it.

Les Miles always appeared to have taken 4 valiums before taking to the sidelines. I hope he was given a clock as a going away gift and a tutor to teach him how to read it.

NC State needs to hire him tonight!

Les left LSU and that imposter of an AD Alleva no choice. Les would not fire Cam as needed. Stubbornness is not a good trait to have in this age of college football. If Les really wanted to keep his job, all he needed to do was get rid of his buddy. The good'ol boy network ran its course in this case. Les had a good run but over the past 4 years he has done the least with the most talent. With this amount of talent and the money this group was getting paid, you had to stay in contention. His success at recruiting was his ultimate demise as LSU coach. Les left them no choice but now the real concern comes into play. Based on the imposters track record of hiring coaches, just look at the job he has done with basketball, what a joke. I dont have a lot of faith in him making the right decision. Hell, he's already proven making the decision to keep Les after last season was a bad one. Besides the 3 coaches that were let go, Alleva needs to be following them out the door as well. Little advice Joe, if you're still there to make the decision, forget Jumbo. He ain't comin to LSU. You screwed him once, he wont let it happen again. He'll use you to get more years and money at FSU and wait until all the good candidates are gone before letting you know. Go after Herman and throw him everything you would at Jumbo. Then sit back sweat it out and pray every night for his acceptance.

He was/is a tremendous HEAD COACH but he needed to step back and let the O-coordinator do his job. His stubbornness was his ultimate downfall. I wish him all the best and will miss seeing him in the purple and gold.

This change has been needed for several years as we haves seen talent squandered, time mismanaged, and three yards and a cloud of dust style football all the while other institutions of our caliber have adapted and evolved. What made this situation even worse was that certain promises were made such as bringing the offense into the 21st century and making it more dynamic that clearly were not kept. This could even be considered a betrayal of sorts. If you follow the NOLA boards as I do you can see even some of Les' most fervent supporters have admitted it is time. I do not understand why he could not adapt either. In any case, I wish Les and Cam all the best and LSU will be just fine. It is the flagship of the state and recruiting will not be hurt at all.

Wins and loses matter, but when you lose the confidence of so many fans, something has to give. Some former LSU players have stated, "If you as the Quarterback were a "Pocket Passer," you didn't fit in Les Miles and Cam Cameron. It is a question, that needs to be answered! And why were other LSU players not brought along, like others. Some of those are thriving in the NFL.

Yes, there are others, who have to admit fault in this matter. Catch the passes, most passes are not perfect, get your offense out of trouble, when it is needed. Running the ball is important, but it is not the only thing that makes to offense go. In this day and age, and a team cannot just run and play defense for four quarters.

I suppose the Board did what they felt was right. Wonder how many of them are real athletes? I suppose Mr Alleva had to "fire" Coach Miles because he's just another yes man BUT, sir, Mr Alleva, do not stand up while you are firing this man, ending an awesome career at LSU, telling anyone who would listen that he was an asset to the program. Don't embarrass yourself by telling us what a wonderful man he is and the great things he's done for this state. You sir are an idiot. You don't care about this man. You don't like this man and your job is still intact. Shame on you Mister. Shame on you.

Les Miles is not the problem here...Cam Cameron was the problem. LSU demanded at the end of last season that Miles not call the plays any longer, to allow Cameron to call the plays. They also wanted Cameron on the sidelines and not in the booth. Well, Cameron was on the field for one game, then he went back to the booth. Also, Cameron was calling all of the Offensive plays. I understand that they wanted a scape goat, but the "goat" should have been Cameron alone, not Miles as well. Now, the bigger question is...who are we going to get now? Who is going to fill the "Mad Hatter's" shoes?

LSU as reported on ESPN has the most players on NFL rosters. How does that happen ? L E S M I L E S. Everyone needs to stop looking at wins and losses and realize that these players came to LSU because Les puts a ton of players in the NFL, and their training, despite any "losses", is second to NONE (nick satan be damned). Oh yeah, and aubie, your coach is next. Btw aubie, you're a dick !!! Hahahahahahahaha

    Les Miles:
-- Fastest to 40 wins of any SEC coach EVER.
    -- 114 wins in a little over 11 seasons (avg. 10+ wins a season).
-- Highest winning percentage of ANY LSU coach ever, including the jakoff currently at Bama.
-- 1 national title, should have been 2, but he was robbed of 1 because of an ESPN-dominated system that eats Saban's crap for breakfast.
-- Greatest consistent recruiter in LSU history.
-- A fine man, which should be criteria #1 when hiring a head coach.

Unfortunately, today in this ESPN-dominated environment where they finally got the focus of CFB to change to winning the national title as the ONLY important thing, Les fell prey to the mob mentality and mental illness that has befallen what used to be an enjoyable game. If he wants to, Les will be hired a millisecond after he indicates so, and that team will be successful, and it won't be a North Texas but a power 5 team. He's not a national-championship-is-the-only-thing kind of coach, so maybe he's seen the putrid environment modern CFB has turned into and he'll just enjoy his millions. Good for him.

The LSU football program, which has been enjoying its second major set of golden years (since 2000), now will fall back into Curley Hallman type doldrums. Recruits will leave the state, nobody good will come to LSU. I suspect most of the top talent who can will leave for the NFL this April.

A sad day for LSU, for CFB, and for most of Tiger Nation. Even friggin' Dandydon has turned into a negatiger. His dad's spinning in his grave. Maybe one day, the mental illness controlling current day CFB will pass, but I suspect for that to happen, ESPN will have to fall of its own weight due to some huge scandal (perhaps Rece Davis, as ill-informed as he is based on his comments just now, will get caught going down on the man in Tusky -- on camera, or something like that).

    This is just wrong ...

I been around LSU sence the 60's. I love LSU. When Les Miles came to town it was exciting. LSU is loaded with athletes DJLevery year. These talented players made Les Miles stay there easier. College football is big business and when manager and coaches are not performing then it is time to make a change and take your losses. LSU is strong and will overcome. Live purple Love gold.

What gives Louisiana the entitlement to demand a top 10 college football program every year?
Most LSU fans didn't geaux to college and can't spell LSU. We have the worst literacy in the country.
I suppose if Auburn officials had put a few more seconds on the clock and they won the game then Les Miles would be a hero. At least Les obviously didn't make a pact with the devil like his predecessor did. Roll Tide.

  • Bigtate@oot - 8 years ago

Bout time...what have u done for me lately ??? Well, now let's go fishing for up and coming UH coach Tom Herman OR Louisville "skins on d wall" coach Bobby Petrino. And let's put Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh on "SPEED DIAL" for SAINTS soon to b opening. CHANGE IS HERE...NOW !!!

  • Sam Sneeze - 8 years ago

Dropped balls, line-up penalties, clock management, bad blocking, missed assignments... these are football fundamentals, things that are coached. And when you have the highest paid coaching committee in the nation... you don't expect these to be the reason you lose games. LSU Football regressed, it is time for change.

  • Tom Soroe - 8 years ago

It was inevitable since his haters had him on a National Playoff or bust leash. Les made the recruiting look too easy. So what coaches can earn a passing grade to replace him? Jimbo Fisher - fans would fire him for letting Louisville put up 63! Hugh Freeze - this was Ole Miss's year and he blew 2 - 21 point leads. Jim McIlwain at FL he blew a 21 point lead on TN. Kevin Sumlin - he lost to Les 4 straight times and needed Johnny football miracles to beat Saban once. I guess Urban Meyer is getting the 4 yr itch. Maybe Tom Herman will leave Houston. Maybe Pete Carroll misses college. Maybe James Franklin will leave Penn State. Lot's of possibilities - only one chance to get it right. Don't look now but Joe Aleva does not have a track record of hiring successful coaches. 9/25/2016 official death of the golden error in LSU football.

I got one more........Hey maybe yalls players will all get rings for getting MIles Fired...you know like the 2nd place rings yall got a few years back....ahahahahahaha yall suck LSU

  • Aubie - 8 years ago

Stupid Corndog Nation, Ed O as head coach? Yall are dumber than you look....hahahahahahahahahahahaah

I was a fan of Les Miles and a critic for 13 long seasons. He has taken LSU to the top of the mountain and then back down it and has never learned how to manage a team to a win when it really needs it. It is poetic justice that his last game is determined by his inability to control a clock down the stretch. I have sat through not one but two Alabama loses due to the inability to use clock management to win the game so YES it was time to say goodbye.

  • Kk - 8 years ago

That's the way it goes in football. The animosity over the years builds up, and he was there on a shoestring this year. And that Auburn game was a disaster. When the coach doesn't care and acts blasé about everything, then it's time for new blood. I wouldn't mind leaving a job with 10 million in my pocket. I think it's a good thing for everybody. We have been dragging this out at LSU for too long. I actually like Les, but it was just time for him to go

  • Struggling Louisiana Fan - 8 years ago

Absolutely, hell yeah! Payton better take heed! Is time for a change in Louisiana sports. There's coaches and players (Brees) draining Louisiana tax payers dollars and for what?? Yeah they won, but neither Payton nor Lesie have won champions in seven and nine years respectively. That's great and all but its all about winning and if you're gonna be paid the highest in the NFL (coach and QB) and NCAA, you need to produce.
It's sad when you talk to anyone about Louisiana and they don't even wanna talk about Katrina anymore, they wanna know why LSU and Saints suck so bad.

  • Scott James - 8 years ago

Poor Les Miles-loses job, and gets 10 million!

  • Lindsay - 8 years ago

For money/donors there was no other option. No one turns down money. I hate it for Les he's a good guy. But it was inevitable.

  • Mike Peters - 8 years ago

It was a good decision only if they have somebody better lined up to take over at the end of the year. Is Ed O the man?
