Windows 10 Updates

I have updated numerous computers with the Anniversary Update with no problem. But the Anniversary Update left my laptop with a black screen and the spinning wheel at the bottom forever. I can't tell you how many times I tried to make it update. I tried numerous fixes from the internet - nothing worked. Then I found an old post from someone with a similar problem who had even reinstalled Windows 10 and then wiped the hard drive and started over - and he still had the same problem. I subscribed to that forum and asked if anyone found the solution to post it. Later someone posted that by simply pulling out the USB adapter for the mouse or any other attached peripheral - the spinning stopped and the update finished perfectly. I tried it and that worked for me and thereafter many people experienced the same results. I continue to receive updates by happy people that it has worked for. To date no one has posted that it did not work. Eventually the fellow who had originally asked the question and gone through all that work tried it and it worked for him as well!! Microsoft did not provide that simple fix after having been asked many times. Instead, they sent us on a circuitous route of ineffective fixes that were irrelevant to the problem. So much for their support. I am sharing this simple information with you so others may benefit from what I have learned. That problem actually happened again on another laptop I had access to - I followed the above procedure and it too finished perfectly.

My problem with Windows 10 updates is. I go to settings click on update and security, search for any updates and after a short time Microsoft comes up with a serial number in brackets and underneath it says try again, which I do, but get the same reply. I check to see whether my Defender in up to date, and yes it is green ticked and informs me it is up to date. Now when I check on what the History of updates is there steering me in the face it says there is no History of updates recorded. I do exactly the same procedure with my Surface Pro 4 Tablet and there is no problem, all updates are recorded in History and the dates and time of download. This is a puzzle to me and if someone can be of help to me I would really appreciate it. Kind regards Ken.
