Prefer the older version. Definitely easier to navigate and take in at a glance. Now you're making us WORK!

Hi this is my second comment.
I was quite surprised at how many treehugger emails I have kept. I definitely prefer the older one, it is much easier to navigate.
    Thanks - Allan.

I like the captions preceding the photos, not the other way around. I like the older version, small photos and a title (of sorts) alongside. Thank you very much. I'm so glad I found you.

I like to scroll from my preview pane on the email so I like the smaller photos as I can see more content and it is easier to scroll through.

I like to read what the article is about before I look at the picture. Pictures aren't always good at explaining what I can read. Good luck. I love most of the content. thanks for your hard work in bring this to us.

Either version is of course fine as the articles are so great, but new version, whilst very clear and uncluttered, doesn't grab me in quite the way your fabulous cynical humour does - bring back the Lloyd-bite!
Many thanks for this daily treat - you are most appreciated :-)

I was fine with the old treehugger setup, but I do understand the need for responsive mobile first design principles. It looks good on the phone. It looks fine on the computer. You could create media queries in your stylesheet to change the styling of everything when the screen size is medium or larger. You could make that whatever you want. You see the old site setup on a computer, new site setup on a phone. That kind of thing, but it would be a bit of work, for sure. But one thing I would like to see is the headline link be on top of the images, and the content below the images. Also, I believe the image itself should be a link the same as the headline. And maybe a little simple horizontal rule separation between articles. Maybe just repeat the same that precedes the first article. Overall, very nicely done. Keep up the great work!

I just love your sarcasm! But large picts a nice...

The new photos are beautiful but I agree that it was the text that made me open the articles. I too loved the puns. I almost always read from my computer because my phone is old (iPhone 4) and it takes a while for things to open/download. So as far as phone readership goes, please have mercy on those of us who hold on to our old devices for as long as possible; please create things that don't overwhelm our digital capabilities!!

    Thanks for continually great information.

the new version does not make it clear what caption goes with what photo and i am scrolling up and down to figure it out
don't like it much. treehugger needs to be easy and obvious and hopefully continues to be that way, even if it is in a new version. i like what you have. at a glance I see everything and i save these and can back to them easily. thanks for asking

Looks great Lloyd, as someone else mentioned: content is king. And the content is great. One of my favorite parts of the newsletter has to be your often terribly punny one-liners that accompany each post! Keep up the great work. Maybe one day you could write a post on how you manage to do everything you do in a day :)

  • John Lynn - 8 years ago

Of course, at a conference people will be viewing with their smartphones.

Seems to be the new challenge and expense to publish for both types of hardware.

The Content is King. Thank you for your excellent site .

Either version is fine with me! You do a great job regardless, so whichever is easier for you is my choice. I just happen to like photos....

I really liked the old version, maybe because I was so used to it. Love all the info.

It seems most people prefer the older format and for good reason. If Treehugger were terribly long, the scrolling would get tedious. I would have thought most people read it on there phones, but maybe not. I do think it looks cleaner, more modern and more attractive in the new format. Keep up the good work, whichever way you go!

I love reading treehugger and share the articles with friends and family all of the time. I prefer the old version but if you want to go this route, I can get used to it. just a change of habit.

  • Mario - 8 years ago

I just want to thank you for making my daily commute less torturous.

  • Allan - 8 years ago

I prefer the older one. As some of the commenters say, the new one is too long. I also find it disturbing when there is no distinction between the text and the photograph. Perhaps you could separate them into their own little areas by just drawing a line across the screen. It would also help if you kept the placement of the text constant, either always before the picture, or always after it. What ever you do, don't change your articles, I enjoy them very much.
I agree with Carl, "I'm traditionalist. Longer lead-ins in the old version piqued my interest and made me want to click though."

  • Ashley Waddell - 8 years ago

I prefer the old version, because I liked the "teaser" text that introduced each piece, and that text is also searchable in my inbox. So if I find myself thinking, "What was that article I read about making intersections more pedestrian-friendly?" I can type a few keywords into Gmail and retrieve it, whereas the less text that appears in the email, the harder that becomes.

Searched for an old version in the trash and found last Tuesday's. Didn't really notice any difference between today's and last Tuesday's on my phone. So ambivalent...

Not a believer in (too minimalist) story link/title only email newsletters tho. Gotta have some meat (mini executive summary) in them to draw me to click. Lloyd's color commentary typically does the job.

  • Karen - 8 years ago

I like the new layout but with smaller pictures

  • Margaret - 8 years ago

I read this on my computer and much prefer the old format. The new one is very hard to read, pictures are giant, text is spread out, and there are no logical visual groupings to the photos and text, so your eye has to work hard to understand graphically which text goes with which photo. Another one of my online newsletters recently went to this new format too, and I can hardly read it.

Either version is fine; it's the content that counts. And, your content has been excellent. Thank you (all of you) for your good work and priceless information.

  • Carl - 8 years ago

I'm traditionalist. Longer lead-ins in the old version piqued my interest and made me want to click though.

    Thanks!

The older one was just one page in the e-mail on mij computer. One look to see which subjects have my interest. Now I have to scroll
