Javier Baez, Jorge Soler, Jeimer Candelario, Mark Zagunis, Ian Happ & Miguel Montero for Mike Trout. THAT deal gets it done for me as a Cubs fan.

I agree with some of the responses above. The Cubs totally should? Are you fraggin kidding me? That would be a moment of idiocy if the Cubs acquired Trout. First off, ppl like Kevin J who bad mouths others as band wagon fans then proceeds to say that the Angels would give up Trout for a package that includes Montero and Soler without Schwarber is hilarious. As if the Angels are that stupid that they would take an over the hill, horrible catcher who can't hit his weight is a joke. As you can see one player does not make a team. Trouts the greatest in the world and his TEAM can't make the playoffs and they've spent a ton of money to surround him with supposed good players i.e. CJ wilson, Pujols, & Josh Hamillton.. Would I love to have Trout on this team? Absolutely but the cost would be too steep and not worth it. I'd much rather trade for an ace like Sale who we could get for far less than what Trout would cost us. If you're going to create trades make them legit. Teams aren't going to willingly take our cast offs. If you call yourself a true fan then stay on planet earth.

By the way, Baez likely will become a 35-40 HR guy.

  • ddevonb - 7 years ago

This proposed trade makes no sense. Kyle Schwarber, Javier Baez, Albert Almora will help the Cubs win a lot more games that any one player can. Plus their salaries are very low which allows the Cubs to spend elsewhere.
Where did anyone get the idea that Schwarber is just a DH/pinch-hitter? That was only the case for the World Series this year until the doctor clears him for full duty. In the spring they will have the same plan for him as they did last spring. He will start mostly in LF and probably catch once a week.

After reading some of these comments I can't imagine you are true baseball fans. Possibly jumped on the bandwagon with the cubs having a sensational year? Especially the one that wouldn't do it just being Schwarber for Trout!! I am a cubs fan but really?!!! Trout is a future HOF. More importantly the best player in the MLB. He is as close to Willie Mays as you are going to get today. A buddy told me about different reporters saying the Cubs are one of maybe 4 teams that could pull off a deal of this magnitude. The Angels want a haul for Trout and they should. He is the face of the franchise just like Rizzo or Bryant are for the cubs. Plus he is a great guy just like the 2 just mentioned. I have been tinkering with a deal for weeks, you know what fans do in the offseason. My thought was. Baez, Soler, Rondon, Cendelorio, Almora and Montero. This wouldn't really hurt the Cubs as far as prospects or the parent club. They get the CF of the future. They have Zobrist for 2b for the next few years, Soler is expendable. 3B is covered. Personally I don't really believe this deal will get it done. But hey, isn't that what the offseason if for? To come up with scenarios?

This is the dumbest thing I've ever read

  • Maher - 7 years ago

Take Schwarber's name out of the mix, as well as Ian Happ and the Cubs might discuss this deal.

  • steven - 7 years ago

Worthless article - I don't know why I always click on yahoo horrible stories but I do.

  • Lenny - 7 years ago

I wouldn't trade Schwarber for Trout even if the Angels added 7 more prospects. Are you kidding me? Trout is going to be the runner up to Schwarber.

  • Phil - 7 years ago

this is the dumbest fucking article about the cubs... no, about baseball that i think ive ever read. oh yeah, the cubs are TOTALLY looking to trade half their fucking WORLD SERIES WINNING lineup and a good amount of top prospects for 1 guy.... are you an idiot!?

  • steve - 7 years ago

this is the stupidest thing I have ever heard

  • Tyler - 7 years ago

Ridiculous trade proposal. Cubs have zero interest in such a lopsided deal. Instead they would be more interested in trading, Schwarber, Soler, Happ and Candelario for Trout. If the Angels declinded that then who cares? Cubs don't NEED Trout. He would be a luxury, not a necessity.

  • AMAZED - 7 years ago

Jim Wilkins. You wouldn't trade Schwarber for Trout straight up? You may be the dumbest person on the planet. Schwarber can hit (although we have a very small sample size on him) and THAT'S IT! Trout can hit for average, hit for power, steal bases, play great defense, has a great arm. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE YOUR IQ IS AROUND 50, SO I WON'T MAKE FUN OF YOU LIKE TRUMP WOULD.

  • RYNO - 7 years ago

Ridiculous article with creating an absurd idea satisfying necessity to write about something. Cubs behind Epstein and Hoyer wouldn't consider this ludicrous notion.

  • steven m silverstein - 7 years ago

    I could envision this trade.
    ANGELS Trout to MIAMI
MIAMI Stanton ( of ), Gordon (2b) , and two quality starters from the majors or the minors. Possibly another bat too.

  • Ron - 7 years ago

Oh sure, trade a bunch of proven champions for one superstar. The Cubs are not stuck on stupid anymore. Trout may be the greatest player in the game, yet his "team" was 74-88. Last I checked, this is still a team game. Enough said.

  • steven m silverstein - 7 years ago

The Angels might trade Trout t the Cubs for these players. not saying they would, but just for fun.

c / of / dh Schwarber Easily something most of us agree on
2b / ss Russell In place of Baez Russell is a better all around player.
of Heyward Never has been more than a what if. Except for two years...if that.
of Almora Has some skills but... see Heyward.
sp Hendricks Before / if his price goes up. Betcha that it will.
sp Arrieta The Angels need a "true" number one starter.

Then the Cubs could trade Chapman (rp) for another starter and a catcher. The starter would probably be a #2 or a #3 type. Bailey and Mesoraco from the Reds as an example.

  • jobber33 - 7 years ago

Schwarber has no place on the Cubs, he is a DH at best. You can't waste a roster spot on a guy that will DH or pinch hit. Sitting him most of the time will kill his bat. Baez swings and misses way to much for a guy that won't hit 35 HR's, so those 2 make sense for the Cubs letting them go for Trout. The other guys are still unproven and might "have the tools" as most say but can they handle 35,000 people staring at them day after day. If I'm the Cubs I say yes with a young arm thrown in by the Angels and if I'm the Angels I do the deal. It gets Trouts contract out from under you to reboot without years of drafting. The Cubs did that for you. As for Montero, he was complaining right after the World Series win about Madden so he could turn into something he never was, a problem in the locker room, but he never was a complainer before either. I think the quick emergence of Contreras makes Montero expendable. The Cubs could always find a veteran back-up.

  • chuck - 7 years ago

Arrieta Hayward and Schwarber with players to be named later

  • steve - 7 years ago

    your brain on drugs

  • alex - 7 years ago

no superstar is worth trading away multiple great players and potentially good players... i know it's a different sport, but the writer probably forgot about the herschel walker trade or the ricky williams trade.

  • Keith Bryan - 7 years ago

This is pure fantasy all right. The Cubs give 7 players for Trout? The Cubs don't need Trout to win and I wouldn't trade Baez, Almora and Schwarber alone for this guy let alone include the other 4 players.

  • MF - 7 years ago

I would do it for Almora, Schwarber, and Happ

  • Adam Spitzer - 7 years ago

As nuts as the idea sound 7 for 1 is too much, if you take Baez out of the deal.....who needs help packing

  • pooface - 7 years ago

Seriously, Schwarber, Rizzo, Bryant, Zobrist, Russel, Baez, Heyward is just as, if not more, scary, then inserting Trout and subtracting 2 of the former.

  • Tom - 7 years ago

Change out Baez and Soler and I would do it.

  • Michael Raspanti - 7 years ago

Anything is possible...But this. The Cubs have something special right now. There's no need to mess with this team. And besides, look at talent on that Angels team. What have they achieved? Absolutely nothing!!!

  • brett - 7 years ago

This Eric guy is a moron. While Trout is the best player in the game, it just shows that one guy cannot make a team great. To think Trout is worth 7 players is just stupid. The trade would be equal to the Rangers signing Arod. This team repeats if it gets a top of line closer.

  • Eric - 7 years ago

Cubs fan are way overrating Baez and Schwarber at this point. Anytime you could trade for the best player in baseball from a area of strength would be downright dumb to pass up. Schwarber is meant for DH and plays horrible defense and Baez, while solid, is a strikeout machine and does not have nearly the power and speed that Trout has. Mind you Trout is only 2 years older at the age of 25. Cubs fans seem to think that everyone on this team is an all-star and huge superstar in the wings.

  • Gelu Bogdanescu - 7 years ago

    Plain stupid...

  • Eric - 7 years ago

Really Jim Wilkins?? The most over-rated player in all of professional sports? Please come back when you can type without using absurd exaggerations.

While I (being a lifelong Cub fan) wouldn't do the writer's trade at all, I would jump at the chance to trade Schwarber for Trout straight up. Stop wearing Cub-shaded glasses.

  • Jim Wilkins - 7 years ago

Mike Trout may be the most over-rated player in all of professional sports, I wouldn't trade Schwarber for him head-up, let alone add 6 other players!

  • Ted Berg Sucks - 7 years ago

@OGTedBerg this is the biggest slice of horse dong out there. nobody in their right mind would trade those seven cubs players for trout. as a sports writer, you should be familiar with theo's mindset as well. when have we ever seen him make a stupid move? perhaps that is why you are a "writer" and nowhere near the controls of making trades. yes, trout is fantastic... and imagining him in the cubs lineup would frighten any opposing pitcher. speaking of pitcher... we are going to need a couple next year. so lets not focus on the likes of dropping seven hitters for trout. not to mention, id be just as afraid of shwarbs, rizzo, bryant as i would trout, rizzo, bryant. obviously u did not watch the WS.

  • bOB - 7 years ago

Also, thanks to adblock, You did not make a penny with my visit for this stupid article

  • bOB - 7 years ago

The Cubs strength is in drafting great hitters.. The will only trade for pitching.. To say that they should do this means you have no baseball sense at all.. are you a kid? 15yr old writing your 1st article? learn to be a journalist.. maybe 1st look up what a journalist IS 1st and go from there

  • Jimmy - 7 years ago

This is a crazy suggestion, designed to create traffic. The Cubs would be utterly stupid to do that, and they are not...

  • johnnnny - 7 years ago

if they could Heyward in there instead of Baez...i may think about it

  • Robert Griffin - 7 years ago

This would be a stupid organizational move for the Cubs. They would effectively trade away their strength: depth!
No one guy is worth it.

  • Jeff - 7 years ago

Lol at how people overvalue their own team's prospects. The Angels would most definitely be the ones saying no. And to the guy saying Arrieta, Montero, Almora for Mike Trout... just wow.

  • Mitt - 7 years ago

No way. Here's a thought; Cubs trade Arrieta, Montego, Almora for Trout. We are keeping Baez and Schwarbs.
