Drivers should not be traveling so fast that they don't have time to respond. They're is a plethora of data to support slower speeds and safety improvements. Paint and other color differentiation is not just about noticeability, but wayfinding, sense of place and other tenets.

drivers don't have time to respond if it's subtle.. By the time they register what's alongside or in front, the cyclist could be hit. For something like this, i'm in favor of "in your face"
