I retired from Publix mid December 1984, after spending 10 years with them. Huge changes were coming about... No more Christmas Parties, opening on Sunday's and such.
I learned how to work hard, work long hours, sometimes 18 hours a day, and it gave me a strong work ethic.
Little of the old Publix remains...no mandatory carryout of groceries, management by computer and such.
BUT, they are still pretty nice folks to deal with and continue to have clean stores! (just glad I'm not scrubbing them on a Saturday night like them old days!)
