My favourite on screen couple is Calvin Klein and Lorraine Baines. My psychiatrist is working on curing me of that though.

Hi I'm Joel from Toronto. This is my first time writing in. I've been meaning to for a while. After missing last weeks John Wick poll, I really wished I had put in my thoughts on that masterpiece, especially after all the negative things said about it, including the sequel which I disagree with Adam and Josh about and think is just as good as the originals. I believe the success of the great John Wick franchise will foster in a new era in action, away from the Michael Bay loudness and the superhero extravaganzas. But enough about that, I'm voting Before Sunset in this poll because I think it's the strongest and most emotional of the ones given. It just sneaks past the more bittersweet and heartbreaking Eternal Sunshine (which I had trouble not voting for because there aren't many protagonists with whom I share a first name!) But Before Sunset has some of the truest dialogue of any romance film ever and doesn't shy away from the darker aspects of getting to know someone. I love this movie. Thanks for the podcast.

What a tough choice. Tenenbaums is my favorite movie, and the love between Margot and Richie is the emotional center of that film. However, judging solely on which movie couple I love spending more time with, I gotta go Joel and Celementine, even though most of the interaction we see between them is in Joel's memories. But that's kind of what make them such a great movie couple - despite their flaws and the fact that their relationship is dysfunctional in real life, Joel can't deny in the end that the memories they have together are irreplaceable treasures worth saving - something we all can relate to, I'm sure.
I can't help but think this poll question was inspired by Sam and my conversation at the Wrap Party when I showed him my tattoos- there's Margot and Richie AND Joel and Clementine on my left arm. I also have another Sacred Cow couple, Edward and Kim from Edward Scissorhands. And a couple from one of my favorites that I hope will end up as a sacred cow discussion some day, Jack and Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas. Apparently I've got a thing for dysfunctional yet magical movie couples. But, I also have Bergman's Dance of Death, a profile of Hitchcock, Bill Murray as Raleigh St. Claire, and , of course, a mom tat.

How are films associated with Richard Linklater, Wes Anderson, and Bill Murray considered "filmspotting cinderellas"? One needs to be an underdog in order to be a Cinderella.

I am going with Jesse & Celine since they maintained their relationship over the course of a bitter-sweet trilogy. But know... know you are ripping my heart out in having to choose against Joel and Clementine, or the seemingly unending love of Phil and Rita.

Phil???? Phil Connors!!!!! Now, don't you tell me you don't remember me because I sure as heckfire remember you!
Great characters, and the only movie on the list I could show my pre-teen kids.
Don't forget, this is the movie that introduced us to Michael Shannon.

There's nothing Cinderella about Linklater's Before trilogy performing well; if they're not Filmspotting royalty, call them Filmspotting aristocracy.
In the hands of voters it's undoubtedly Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind that will pull off a heartbreaking upset against Alien or something. I wish i could see what everyone else does in it.
P.S. Please consider requiring voters to have seen both movies in a matchup they're voting on. We'll only have the honor system to work with and that'/ still better than nothing. I hate the idea of 25th Hour losing to E.T. simply because more people have seen the latter.
Keep up the great work, and looking forward to another round of Madness.

Filmspotting Nation will pick Before Sunset, and thus it is my pick in the poll... but I'll be voting for Eternal Sunshine deep into the playoffs.

Truly inventive, visually stunning, and with an ending that is both bittersweet and still surprisingly optimistic, it's gotta be Eternal Sunshine, doesn't it?
