Should the city of Brookfield continue to pursue a conference center?

If a private entity wants to build a conference center here, let them investigate the return on their investment in the facility. The City of Brookfield is not in a position like the City of Milwaukee to spend tax payer dollars on a trolley to no where, they have many rooms their that go unused and a conference center that is barley used all at tax payer expense. We have created TIF districts using tax payer dollars to fund private development with City residents paying for private for profit business with tax dollars from those improvements not going to pay for City of Brookfield Expenses, County or State expenses yet we are expected to provide police, fire, municipal services to them for free. Were on overload right now as Alderman Berg so kindly provided the huge amount of TIF district dollars flying out of the tax revenue account. The City of Brookfield should stick to municipal items. Look at what the School district looses in tax revenue because of the TIF district fund being diverted into private equity. Let a for Profit Developer buy a parcel from Irgens or let Irgens do it them selves. They already have the Land available. That is where it would end up being built any way. If they do not want to do it , it must be because it would not be a profitable venture. So why should the Citizens and business owners have to pay for the conference center as an increase on their tax bills. We are building an addition to Swanson, who is paying for that, Citizens of Brookfield. I did not see any private source come forward with any gifts to pay for that addition to the school . You can bet if a private company comes here and wants to build a Conference center they will want a TIF donation of existing tax payers to help pay for what ever part of it. We now are paying for subsoil problems for a private developer to build a office building on Wisconsin Avenue. How about doing something to lower our taxes instead of raising them for private interests. Not Good Folks. Common Council should find ways to reduce taxes not give the revenue away.

The City first should look at ways to improve fire and EMS service to improve response times and equipment instead on relaying on neighbor cities. Did anyone know that there isn't a physical agility test for candidates?
