To be honest, I would get the surface laptop and then upgrade to windows 10 pro IF I didn't buy SP 4 just a few month ago :(

How come this device is for students if I can't install win32 apps like, AutoCAD, adobe suit, pro tools, Steinberg, etc.? You now... Programs a student will use. (or will have to learn to use) note for MS, office is NOT the only program a students will need in their life. I know, "it can be update to pro" but I bet the entry model will ran out of RAM so fast, specially if using demanding apps. To expensive, to basic, so unpractical, I give shit about fabric, it gives none tactical advantage what's so ever (if you know what I mean)

I like the Surface Laptop. I think it is an interesting concept for students. A lot of noobs on this Polldaddy survey do not see it from a student perspective. This laptop is aimed towards the in between the tablet users and 2-in-1 users. It is not aimed towards someone whom wants an 4K screen (Steve Meder) above me. What is the point of 4K? As users, only enthusiests are at that point. Students don't need a 4K support. Nonethless, they do not need USB type C either.

While this device sure doesn't give you the most value for the price, the truth is that a lot of average consumers don't seem to care about that. I mean look at the macbook air, that device does no give you a lot of value for your money at all, with its massive bezzles and kind of outdated internals and no 2-in-1 capabilities. Yet it remains one of the most popular devices out there, even today. I think those are the consumers microsoft is targetting with this device, not the techsavvy people who care about usb-c or 4k screens, not the people that want a 2-in-1, but the people that want a premium looking basic laptop and would otherwise buy an outdated macbook air

Frankly, MacBook Pro Retina 13'v is much better value for money in that price range, and in terms of specs and features as well.

Speaking of Windows S, it's ok from the security standing point since majority of users uses such device for basic stuff, such as email, surfing the web, social media, and so for it.

And I see it as a good strategy for bringing UWP into the game, even via various bridges, but in generally I prefer installing software via official repositories, Windows store in this case.

For my wife it's perfect: Surface, beautiful, powerful, secure, instant on, no drain and all day 14.5 hour battery life. She is not a power user but could be with pro so it's great. For her and for over 90% of users.

Those that say ports never use ports. Those that say pro have not given the store, edge or bong a fair shake. Those that say get something else yada yada have not owned a late Surface device.

This is a great device if not for you for someone you know who wants the balance an best.

The Surface Laptop is a very nice machine, but the Surface Pro form factor better suits my needs both at work and at home. I'm waiting for a refresh of that line (although, Panos' statement of no SP5 was a bit disappointing) but, if there's no SP5 in the near future, I'll change out my trust SP3 for an SP4. On the upside, Microsoft seems to be dropping the prices on those.

Windows S really are you kidding me
    Lack of 4k
    Type c not a standard
I can get better value else where
