In general, do you think that doctors overprescribe powerful painkillers?

I have to say not everyone is a drug addict and people that are may get better and may need pain meds in a medical emergency situation but honestly I feel the suicide rate and overdoses are so high since the drs cut off pain meds . This is not the answer

Those who said YES have not tried to get any pain killers. I just had Major surgery & had to scream & yell at the doctors office to get a prescription. My primary absolutely refuses to prescribe anything stronger than Tramadol.

Doctors are legal dope dealers... it all to easy to get a prescription.. Addiction is a disease not a choice. So I am glad they are changing things for the better. Speaking from experience ( a 12 year clean addict)...

Susanne I agree I folded my ankle to the ground after jumping into a 5ft hole and I was given 2 motrin like I was trying to take the edge off a headache. Needless to say the pain was awful for a week straight and would have been nice to have had the proper meds

Of course there will always be abusers of legally prescribed medications, but how about those of us who actually need them to control our pain? Those of us over 60 years old that cannot find any comfort to ease our constant pain should not be penalized by addicts! It has become so impossible now to get a legitimate prescription for needed pain medications are just out of luck now! Unbelievable.
