We need to be aware of what affects us on daily basis, the Kra portal is reach with information and we need to explore more and obtain free knowledge. Kra many a times has organised free seminars and workshop but either we are not interest or preoccupied by other issues. We can spend much of our times watch football, betting, watching movies but not browsing to obtain information that can help us. Employers only send accountants and managers to attend this workshop, they don't factor in other calipers of employees. If you want to be safe don't blame Kra but look for information or somebody that will assist you avoid penalties

Hallo! my concern is so many people especially employees in security firms don't know they are supposed to file. there has not been enough sensitization of this. personally I being among them, learned late, so I filled and have a penalty.

Why file returns even to the unemployed? I think the fine against defaulters is another type of tax by its own.

We are pushed to file our returns every year. But what about refunds. You will tarmack your whole life persuading the KRA to initiate the process. Very uncooperative staff at KRA.

Kra has scored poorly in sensitization of taxpayers and also people have been alienated by cybercafe owners who charge as much as sh.400 to file the returns.Kra systems have been hanging each and every-time making the process very difficult...i would like the date to be extended if we mind about the poor working kenyans who earn less than 10 dollars and are being taxed and now they pay sh.20000 as a penalty.
Kenya revenue authority should also have trained Kenyans on how to file the returns online and could have set up stations to assist Kenyans in filling the tax returns reason being that most Kenyans are illiterate especially when it comes to computer online applications.kra you have disappointed Kenyans with that too much penalty
Not all regions in Kenya have well developed computer stations that could make the process a success am trying to reason with people in rural area who are paying tax but have limited opportunity of accessing resources like computer, smartphones and no electricity to make a process a success,

To my opinion, return filing information is targeted for Kenyans who are in a position to watch TVs and read newspaper. The majority of Kenyan who toil and work hard to pay taxes are not informed hence find themselves in penalty bracket. Also some employers give out p9 forms few days like 3days to dead line which now brings the jam and gives room for corruption. I feel that the awareness should be enhance to all levels, employers also to be given a deadline for submission of p9s with a penalty for late issues. The system of filing returns also is not easy as it is advertised in TVs, you can't do it using a phone, total lie. let us have all Kenyan on board ndio tulipe ushuru tujitegemee.

This issue with KRA imenifikisha dead end. Wametuibia, na wamezidi kutuibia and there is nothing we can do, its the law.
Despite paying all the taxes on time, KRA has now on two occassions failed to offer me with a TCC certificate. At first after filling, the Itax returns 'Pending " on the Status of the application. This usually goes on for about two to three days and then when you inquire about the status, the return now is an annoying "An Error has occurred". This usually continues until you give up on the chase of the TCC. I have come to realize they do this deliberately so as to allow another course of kitu kidogo to take place as a result of the frustrations. I HAVE CONTINUALLY MISSED OUT ON MULTI MILLION SHILLING VENTURES BECAUSE OF MISSING OUT ON THIS TCC.
So to me I have already given up and am thinking on giving up on paying taxes soon so that they proceed on taking me to court, while I sue them for the frustrations they have laid upon me overtime on the issue of TCC.

KRA should use all media available to create awareness.

It has just concentrated on paid adverts on radio & tv.

They should also use text messages to all cellphone subscribers, all local radio stations and bill boards & others.

I'm happy Stephen calls it a pothole... What more can you call it? This site is not user friendly, AT ALL. I wish the taxman can educate people more on how to navigate the system and the "Xcel form". Ask my mother and she'll tell you how this iTax shoe pinches after she and her fellow teachers were milked at the cybers trying to "feel" this "return dragon". Worse still, how does it feel sharing your personal details such as PIN, passwords and a salary to a guy u know nothing about?? What do you think happens to people in marginalized areas who even have no idea of what returns are? They'll have to pay a broker bus fare ( to n fro)to Huduma centres, cyber money and a transaction fee!! In areas such as Tharaka i'm told teachers are parting with much as 1500 for this activity, not forgetting their meagre salary plus humongous deductions. If say, net is 4,000(dear Kenyan, stop wondering how net can be 4k) less 1500, not forgetting what went into that TAX, nkt!!! how will this Mkenya Mtrue survive for the month? It's sad that the only way this servants know how to survive is by taking loans, whose interests almost doubles, and before they know it they are "feeling" retuns instead of filing. My 50 cents piece of advice, instead of showing us people I don't know doing what on this Mkenya Mtrue nonsense (read commercial), can you instead give a detailed step by step guideline on how to file returns!!!!! Needless to say, can we have KRA officials camping in schools to assist our dear teachers? You with all the education you think you have, dont you think you owe your teachers alot? Infact you cannot afford them for their worth. If the heavy tax we pay, cannot help us account for the tax we pay, what makes you think the mzungu will stop calling us the "dark continent"????? I'm a dissapointed taxpayer. See you in 2018, before the June deadline. Well, I know no action will be taking so in the meantime, Jubilee ndaaaaaani tena sana.

RA has never sensitized Kenyans on the filing of the returns. Even to those aware like me, they have not educated on the process procedure. You even go to their stations at Huduma centres and you are told to visit cyber men. The truth is that very few of the cyber operators understand this process and if luckily they know then their charges are like you were buying a cow.
The process is even more difficult in the event you are not employed throughout the year, like I filed my 2016 returns for a contract of 50days income distributed to three months at different rates, it was head damaging.
More serious that they are ready and quick to penalize in case of default, regardless of one's ignorance of this requirement yet they never notify you when you apply for the pin. Secondly, you obey the rules and file. You get a job advert requiring KRA compliance certificate and forward your request for the cert and they e-mail you to wait to be mailed the cert, am still waiting for both 2016 and 2017 requests.
