In general, do you think the food system in this country is moving in the right direction, or is it on the wrong track?

660 MILLION chickens were slaughtered in Canada in 2015. Our human population is 36 MILLION. To keep up with the demand, chickens are bred to grow large quickly so they can be sent to slaughter at just 5 weeks of age. In fact chickens, sent to slaughter today, are 4 times the size they were in the 1950's. This rapid, unnatural growth, cripples them under their own weight and compromises their musculoskeletal and immune health. Many die from heart attacks. Also living in their own waste, chickens suffer painful skin conditions as well as respiratory problems from poor air quality. Chickens are gentle, inquisitive creatures. Renowned animal science professor, Dr. Bernard Rollin, has stated " chickens are complex behaviorally, do quite well in learning, show a rich social organization and have a diverse repertoire of calls. They have significantly different personalities from each other". Farmers live off the exploitation of animals. They have no concern for these animals, only the money they stand to make off of them. "Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine" is a group of over 12,000 American medical doctors, who firmly believe, the consumption of meat, dairy and eggs is linked to diabetes, numerous cancers, heart disease and obesity. They promote a plant based diet for good health.
