Should Columbus Day be replaced with Indigenous Peoples Day?

We have first person accounts of Columbus and his men killing MILLIONS of people. They fed babies to their dogs, they chopped off heads of people for no reason. It would be like the USA having 'ISIS Day", but ISIS isn't as evil as Columbus.

    Let's quote Columbus himself...

'I am a most noteworthy sinner.'
'As soon as I arrived in the Indies, in the first island which I found, I took some of the natives by force.'
'They would make fine servants…. With fifty men we could subjugate them all and make them do whatever we want.'

Yay for rape and slavery and murder! An American hero who never step foot in what later became the USA. Also he was a hispanic undocumented immigrant, guys you 'people' here forgot that. BUILD THAT WALL!!!!

    My favorite is this quote...
'For the execution of the voyage to the Indies, I did not make use of intelligence, mathematics or maps.'

He was too stupid to read maps or look at the stars, so he crashed into an island was just good luck for him, and bad luck for everyone else.

And let's go to the priest who was on the trip...
His name was Bartolome De las Casas.

'Indeed they invented so many new methods of murder that it would be quite impossible to set them all down on paper.'

"A Spaniard who was out hunting deer or rabbits realized that his dogs were hungry and not finding anything they could hunt, took a little boy from his mother, cut his arms and legs into chunks with his knife and distributed them among his dogs."

"During these eleven years, more than two million souls have perished and, in an area of more than a hundred leagues by a hundred leagues, only two thousand survivors are to be seen, and even this number is shrinking day by day as the survivors succumb to the rigours of a life of slavery."

"I testify that I saw with my own eyes Spaniards cutting off the hands, noses, and ears of local people, both men and women, simply for the fun of it, and that this happened time and again in various places through the region. On several occasions I also saw them set dogs on the people, many being torn to pieces in this fashion, and they also burned down houses and even whole settlements, too numerous to count."

    HAPPY ISIS DAY EVERYONE!

There are many more important topics than this to address ... what a waste of time, energy and blowing things out of proportion. People need to take a breath and find something good to do for society and the world.

I can't believe this world now. Since when did we begin catering to every single person who cries over spilled milk? Uuugghhhh. I am sorry my children have inherited THIS.

I really think this issue is gone far enough. Has the world gone crazy? Don't you think people of Italian heritage will be hurt? Please get on with a normal world and let Columbus have its day. These people who want to change every little piece of history because it may offend someone need to get on with there lives. ITS REALLY TOO BAD. SUCK IT UP.

It would be nice to leave our history alone. On some issues it is necessary to stop progressing with negativity but replacing or removing does not take away the history. Granted some events have had a negative outcome and they should be changed but not removed. Removal is denial that events happened. Can't learn from mistakes if removed like it never happened. It happened and learn to live with it .
