Yes I do ride my 6 and 7 year old to school....however I have chosen a route which significantly increases the distance so as to keep them on a wider and less "busy" grass verge and to keep the road crossings at the most visible and least busy crossings. I also run or ride with them to instruct them on how to cycle and share the road/path with cars/pedestrians and I make sure they wear high visibility clothing. Increased off road concrete/bitupave pathways in the streets around the kids school would make this commute so much safer and easier. I think a "bike bus" and road safety programs to teach children how to ride and share safely with pedestrians and traffic would greatly improve both kids and their parents confidence in commuting by bicycle.
