People visiting Baja are likely to feel safer at home, people who live in Baja know it is safer than California. Murder rates don't show the whole picture.

I have been living in San Felipe, Baja for the past 7 years and love it. From Sacramento, CA and never felt comfortable or safe there. No problems walking in the evening here. Scary in California. Will never return to live in the USA.

Love Mexico! The adverse dealings of people ripping you off or police targeting tourest for bribes is rampid. It would be utopia if this were not a constant issue. The Government has no control to ensure safety.

Here in Mexico along the northern coast of Lake Chapala my husband and I feel safer than we did in the U.S. for many years. We can walk around anytime of the day or night and never feel threatened. I believe that is because Mexico does not have the gun culture that is blatant in some parts of the U.S. and exists practically everywhere. We live a peaceful life among the peaceful Mexican people.

Here in Mexico we don't have people shooting up crowds of people who have gathered to have a good time, or are running in a marathon, orin a movie theater, or grade school. Here if you get involved with the cartels, you know what you are getting into and may end up on the wrong end of a gun barrel. But that's it. I feel safe here, and no countries, other than the U.S. have a problem with Mexico. We are a peaceful country.

Southern California, from Los Angeles south, is very dangerous indeed. Especially anytime after dark. It is not safe for children to venture outside after dark for fear of kidnapping etc. Even adults do not want to go out after dark and many are even afraid to go outside during the day in many places in Los Angeles. I lived in the Ajijic/Chapala for twenty years and was never afraid to go outside after dark. The streets were always filled with people walking laughing with one another. I wish I could still live in my Mexico lindo y queridio!

    Donald Hauser Viva Mexico!!!
