A terrible problem. Many people, as one respondent suggests, simply cannot afford insurance like he had. It is unreasonable and cruel to leave these people homeless. Earthquake standards must be followed for rebuilding.

If the government has earthquake construction standards that are followed, it might be reasonable to expect compensation.

The Mexican politicians will definitely keep the reconstruction money for themselves. Most Mex citizens don't trust in them

"Malor in radiccio" ..... "Latin for" 'problems in the roots'; if you live in an earthquake prone zone, you should build accordingly, and construct an edifice which can withstand a 7.2 level quake. This of course demands that standards be put in place beforehand! Doing so in Mexico is problematic ..... think of it ...... the standards are written into law. Then a contractor gets paid more to build the home in a certain way,'earthquake proof'! Well done Mexico! But, as usual, the contractor "pisses in the soup" and gambles that he can get away with the fraud of not spending on the needed features, all because the quake will happen much later, and by then he will be rich. Everything here works that way .... he'll be in cahoots with the building inspector/overseer, and they will all live more comfortably. Been here 18 years and it will never change!

INSURANCE SHOULD BE AVAILABLE,
BUT IF THE POOR COULD NOT AFFORD IT THEN THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD PAY FOR IT.

Earthquake insurance in MX isn't always available. It is not like the US or Canada. Many homeowners here are poor with tiny homes, but it is all they have. They are not being careless.

Your poll question is not explained properly. When you say rebuild, do you also mean help homeowners with funding to rebuild or does it just mean that the government itself would construct the destroyed homes?

If you own a home you should be sure to have insurance to cover any major disasters like I had when I owned mine it was fully covered for floods earthquakes and any other catastrophic problems it’s money well spent

I don' think the government should rebuild the houses, but it would be good for them to assist to make it possible for the people to rebuild.
